Manvendra Singh from Jodhpur secured AIR 15 in NEET 2025 with 670/720 marks. Though disheartened after the tough exam, his hard work and discipline led to this big success
Hard work and faith in oneself can turn even the toughest challenges into success stories. Manvendra Singh from Jodhpur, Rajasthan, has proven this by securing All India Rank 15 in the NEET exam with a score of 670 out of 720. His achievement has brought immense pride to his family.
Manvendra dedicated six hours daily to coaching and spent the rest of his time studying, apart from six hours of sleep. His discipline and consistency led to this outstanding success. His dream is to become a neurosurgeon and serve people. Though not particularly interested in sports, Manvendra enjoys drawing and playing the flute, reflecting his creative side.
The Paper Was Tough, But Faith Kept Him Going
This year, the NEET paper set by NTA was considered difficult. Manvendra felt disheartened after the exam. However, his coaching mentors and family reassured him that a tougher paper meant a lower cut-off. Gradually, he regained confidence in his performance.
Initially inclined towards Physics and Maths, Manvendra chose Biology to pursue his dream of becoming a doctor. He advises aspiring students to study Physics with genuine interest, as it can be a challenging yet rewarding subject.
Manvendra scored 96.20% in his Class 12 exams. He encourages students to develop the habit of reading beyond the syllabus, not limiting themselves to just NCERT books. This, he says, strengthens overall preparation.
Manvendra's mother, Manju Kanwar, is a homemaker, while his younger brother Navdeep is currently in Class 10. Manvendra's journey is a testimony to hard work, discipline, and the power of belief.

Punjab: MBBS dreams hit fund crunch wall for students from humble backgrounds

Neeraj Kumar cracked NEET-UG, and his marks (493/720) were enough to secure him a seat at Government Medical College (GMC), Patiala, achieving the first part of his dream to become a doctor. The Punjab government recently hiked the fee by 5%, claiming it was a routine revision in accordance with a 2020 notification issued by the medical education department. (Getty Images/iStockphoto) But just when the son of a farm labourer reached the finish line, Neeraj was hit by an insurmountable hurdle — ₹1.8 lakh admission fee. Neeraj hails from Shergarh village in Abohar and says his father's daily earnings are barely enough to sustain the family. 'Currently, we don't have the money to pay the fees. We will have to borrow money if someone gives,' he told HT. His mother is a homemaker, and there are no savings to fall back on. He is not alone; the same is the case with a meritorious school pass-out, Ashwani (564 marks), from Bazidpur Kattianwali village in Abohar. He secured admission at GMC, but his father, a tailor, is unable to pay the high fees. Likewise, Harvinder Singh (429 marks) from Faridkot, whose mother is an ASHA worker and father a contractual teacher, is also struggling to arrange the funds to join the college. All three, belonging economically weaker section, are struggling to arrange money because MBBS fees in Punjab are among the highest. The tuition fee alone is over ₹10 lakh, and if one includes hostel, books and other expenses, the total cost of the five-year course comes close to ₹15 lakh. The Punjab government recently hiked the fee by 5%, claiming it was a routine revision in accordance with a 2020 notification issued by the medical education department. Currently, Punjab fees are the highest compared to neighbouring states and UTs, including Haryana, New Delhi, Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh and Rajasthan. The tuition fee in Himachal Pradesh's government medical colleges is around ₹3.19 lakh for the entire course, while Haryana charges about ₹4.5 lakh. Slamming the government for making medical education unaffordable in the state, Dr Raman, president, Resident Doctors' Association, GMC, said, 'We have been strongly opposing the exorbitant fees. Meritorious students from humble backgrounds can't afford medical education. The Punjab government should review the MBBS and PG course fees in the state, as they are the highest in the region.' As of now, there is no Punjab government policy to support meritorious students in pursuing higher education. 'There is no policy to help meritorious students pursue higher education, especially MBBS,' admitted a senior Punjab education department official. 'However, students from the reserved category (SC) can avail of scholarships under the BR Ambedkar Scholarship scheme.' Punjab education minister Harjot Bains also admitted to the lacuna: 'Currently, there is no government scheme for any financial help for MBBS students from economically weaker sections. But we will try to help needy students.'

Deemed univs with lower fees emerge as top choices for MBBS

Chennai: Deemed universities that charge lower fees, even if they are new, were among the first choices of candidates aspiring to become doctors, as shown by the results of the round 1 counselling released by the Medical Counselling Committee. The committee, led by the Directorate General of Health Services, allots seats online to students based on merit in NEET and the rule of reservation for 15% of seats under the all-India quota in state-run colleges, all central govt institutions, and deemed universities. Students are required to choose and lock in their preferred medical colleges in order of preference. "Although toppers' scores were lower, there was crowding in scores between 400-500," said R Saravanakumar, a NEET coach at a private institution. Analysis of round 1 counselling results, however, showed the most opted medical college among deemed universities in the country is Kasturba Medical College, Manipal University in Manipal, which charges around 17.7 lakh every year. Tamil Nadu colleges, which charge up to 30.5 lakh per year, were not among the top 20 choices of students. While colleges from Karnataka and Maharashtra were among the top 10 colleges to close early, a student with a rank of 263126 and 374 marks in NEET was the last to be given a seat at TN's Sri Ramachandra Medical College. "When tuition fees per year are around 30 lakh, the overall fee for four years is nearly 1.2 crore. Parents may have to pay another 10-15 lakh more for boarding, lodging, books, and other fees," said student counsellor Manickavel Arumugam.
