Prime Video's Canadian slate includes docs on RV culture, Toronto romance scammer
The streamer announced programming plans loaded with non-scripted fare including 'Trailer Trash,' executive produced by Jacob Tierney of 'Letterkenny' fame.
It follows two brothers who sell RV parts across North America from their small town of Vegreville, Alta., east of Edmonton. The series will release globally in 2026.
Prime Video is also touting a two-part docuseries 'RomCon: Who the F**k is Jason Porter?', about a convicted criminal who used romance to manipulate and deceive women. It premieres at NXNE festival ahead of launching June 13.
Returning shows include a second season of 'Faceoff: Inside the NHL,' with six episodes diving into the 2024-25 season and playoffs.
Meanwhile, a previously announced documentary about Montreal rockers Simple Plan will get a summer release under the name 'Simple Plan: The Kids in the Crowd.'
Prime Video said Thursday in a release that the slate reflects a commitment to producing stories that resonate with Canadians and showcase homegrown talent.
The streamer also touted the new French language competition 'Karaoké Club' and a fourth season of 'LOL: Qui Rira Le Dernier?'
It also said the previously announced francophone dramedy series 'Vitrerie Joyal,' starring comic Martin Matte, will launch in 2026.

Prime Video's Ice Cube-starring War of the Worlds remake (finally) debuted its Rotten Tomatoes score nearly a week after the film was quietly released onto the streamer. Unsurprisingly, the micro-budget 'screenlife' version of H.G. Wells' classic novel has earned a drudging from critics and audiences alike. Currently, 2025's War of the Worlds sits at the lowest of the low: a zero percent critical consensus on RT. The adaptation, which is shown completely through cell phone footage and computer monitors in the style of Searching (2018) or Host (2020), is one of about two dozen films which have notched the dubious score. War of the Worlds sits alongside such unloved creations as Police Academy 4: Citizens on Patrol (1987); Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever (2002); The Ridiculous 6 (2015); and John Travolta's Gotti (2018). War of the Worlds is only the second film of the year to score a zero percent, the other being the Sylvester Stallone/Scott Eastwood vehicle Alarum. What are critics saying about War of the Worlds (2025)? Well, clearly nothing nice. In fact, this new War of the Worlds has recieved some of the most vitriolic reviews since Gotti. Reviews aren't just negative; they're dire. Men's Journal's review called War of the Worlds 'by far the worst screenlife movie to date,' one which closely resembles 'those Z-grade monster invasion flicks that used to pop up on Mystery Science Theater stars Ice Cube, but one could argue that the chair on which he sits for the film's entire length is both more pivotal to the plot and a more compelling performer.'Decider's Marshall Daffer wrote: This limp, lifeless take on Wells' War of the Worlds feels shoehorned into the 'screen movie' format just to harvest clicks from the recognizable name.' 'It is silly, shoddy and features far too much of rapper-turned-leading man Ice Cube staring at a computer screen while looking as if he's working through a reasonably urgent digestive ailment, opined Ed Power in the Daily Telegraph. Variety's Peter Debruge lamented the rampant product placement in the film, which goes so far as to have Amazon deliveries save the day. 'Even with a Prime subscription, you have to sit through two minutes of ads to watch 90 more of what amounts to a feature-length commercial for all things Amazon.' In one of the most damning and accurate assessments of the disastrous picture, Paul Mount Starburst wrote: 'War of the Worlds is a torturous, endless 90 minutes of glitchy video clips, military stock footage, glad-to-be-doing-something actors running through the street waving a camera in front of their faces and pretending to be scared.' The Issue: Democrats' opposition to the Trump administration's takeover of Washington, DC, policing. It's actually quite astounding watching Democrats protesting against a safer Washington, DC. They must like the murders, carjackings, robberies and sexual assaults that happen on a daily basis ('$oros DC protests,' Aug. 13). They must also relish victimhood. J.J. Levine Miami Beach, Fla. In response to President Trump dispatching federal officers to the streets of DC, Sen. Chuck Schumer said, 'I feel perfectly safe' walking around the US Capitol grounds and vicinity. Of course, he forgot to mention that he has 24-hour taxpayer-funded security and the use of a car. I bet his younger staffers who don't enjoy around-the-clock security may whisper that they don't share their boss' view. David Tulanian Henderson, Nev. Stating that the statistics prove that DC crime is down, Hillary Clinton has accused Trump of overreacting to Washington's out-of-control crime problem. Perhaps 'Her Majesty' should speak to a large audience comprised solely of crime victims in Washington who haven't a single Secret Service agent assigned to protect them. And when one of them asks her about the agents that are assigned to her, Bill and Chelsea, her answer would surely be enlightening. Could it possibly be: 'Well, our lives are very important and yours aren't?'
