BSF, Punjab Police recover arms and explosives near Indo-Pak international border
CHANDIGARH: The Border Security Force (BSF) and Punjab Police recovered a cache of arms and explosives near the Indo-Pak international border. Approximately 5 kilograms of RDX, four pistols, five hand grenades and 220 rounds of ammunition were recovered.
Sources said that during patrolling near the international border, the sleuths of the Border Security Force (BSF) detected that two packets were lying in the fields of Sahowal village in the area Border Out Post (BoP) Shahpur, 3.5 kilometres from the border.
"One packet was weighing some 7 kilograms, it had three pistols of Baretta make, six magazines, 171 rounds of 9 MM pistol, five grenades, '' said a senior officer on condition of anonymity.
He added that two nine-volt battery mechanisms, 12 A batteries, six fuse mechanisms, two remote controls and a battery charger which is used to make explosive devices, were recovered from this packet.
Sources said that the other packet which was weighing 6.5 kg it contained one pistol, two magazines, 49 rounds of ammunition and two packets of explosives, each weighting 2.5 kg.
"We suspect that this explosive might be RDX, but till the report of forensic team comes and confirms what exactly this explosive is, we cannot confirm anything,'' said an officer.
Sources further said that these packets were dropped in the Ajanla police station area via drones which came from the neighbouring country, and now it is being analysed around what time the dropping took place.

Woman duped of Rs4.4L in job fraud
Pune: The Wanowrie police are investigating a complaint registered by a 35-year-old woman, wife of a Border Security Force (BSF) constable, on Thursday stating that a conman, under the pretext of helping her secure a job as a clerk at the Pune Cantonment Board (PCB), duped her of Rs 4.38 lakh between Nov 2023 and Nov 2024. Sub inspector Balasaheb Wakade on Friday said the victim is a resident of Vadu Budruk at Shirur. She holds a degree and visited the PCB in search of a job when she came in contact with the conman, he said, adding that the conman lured her by claiming he could help her secure the clerk because he was in the good books of the PCB officials. Wakade stated that the conman induced the victim to pay a total of Rs 7 lakh and assured her that she would soon receive a letter of appointment for the clerk position. She did not receive anything, Wakade said. Later, the woman and her husband, who is a constable with the BSF and posted in Siachen, realized that she was tricked and asked the suspect to repay the money. The suspect eventually repaid Rs 2.68 lakh and sought time to repay Rs 4.38 lakh, but to no avail. He eventually stopped communicating with her, the police officer said. The woman has shared the suspect's cellphone number and photograph. A police team is working on certain clues to arrest him, he added. Patuli doc loses 78k online after fake BSF call
Kolkata: A Patuli resident, a homoeopathy doctor by profession, lost Rs 78,054 in an online scam after receiving a fraudulent call from someone posing as a member of the Border Security Force (BSF). Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The caller asked the victim to arrange a special check-up camp for BSF personnel, particularly to ensure "there was no Covid outbreak in the unit". The victim, a resident of New Raipur Road, reported receiving a call from an unidentified number around 7 pm on May 8. The caller requested permission to send BSF personnel from "Garia camp" to the doctor's clinic at Patuli for a check-up and demanded advance online payment for gate passes. "The caller convinced me to join a video call to verify my account details. They said they needed to pay my fees in advance so that gate passes could be issued. They mentioned that a senior BSF officer would make a video call to verify my accounts. Once the call was made, I followed their instructions without realising it was a scam," said the victim. Two unauthorised transactions were made from the victim's bank accounts. The first transaction of Rs 49,527 was processed through a UPI ID. The second of Rs 28,527 was made through BPAY. Both payments were transferred to an account linked to a credit card ending in 4784. The phone number associated with the fraudulent credit card has also been identified, said cops, adding that steps to block the transfer of money have already been initiated. This incident adds to the growing number of cyber fraud cases where scammers impersonate military or law enforcement personnel to gain victims' trust. The Patuli police have registered a complaint and launched an investigation into the matter along with the divisional cyber cell. They have urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious calls immediately. This modus operandi, using health checks and Covid as a shield, is comparatively new. 2 arrested in Amritsar for cross-border arms smuggling; 8 weapons recovered: Punjab DGP
Amritsar (Punjab) [India], June 6 (ANI): In a major breakthrough, the Counter-Intelligence unit in Amritsar on Friday arrested two men involved in cross-border arms smuggling and recovered eight illegal weapons from their possession, Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said in a X post. The two accused, Sukhchain Singh and Jugraj Singh, were intercepted while transporting a weapons consignment allegedly sent by a Pakistan-based smuggler named Noor, officials said. The operation was carried out after the Counter-Intelligence team received specific intelligence inputs about the movement of the suspects. Acting quickly, the team intercepted them and seized the consignment of arms. According to the official recovery details, the seized weapons included three Glock 9mm pistols, four Px5 pistols, and one .30 bore pistol. The weapons were believed to be smuggled across the border for possible criminal or terror-related activities. An FIR was registered at Police Station SSOC, Amritsar, and further investigations were launched to trace additional handlers and links in the cross-border smuggling network. Officials confirmed that the investigation was aimed at unearthing the full extent of the smuggling operation, which could involve more operatives both in India and Pakistan. The Punjab Police, in a post on X, said, 'Punjab Police remains committed to neutralising such modules and ensuring the safety and security of the state.' In a seperate case on Thursday, the Punjab Police successfully busted a cross-border weapon smuggling module with connections to Pakistan. The police recovered six sophisticated firearms, including two PX5.30 pistols and four 9 mm Glock pistols, all loaded with live cartridges. The operation was carried out after receiving a specific tip-off about the illegal smuggling activities. In a statement shared on the microblogging platform X, DGP Punjab Police confirmed that an FIR has been registered. Further investigation is underway to identify the full network of backwards and forward linkages related to the smuggling operation.
