Lewis Hamilton made his feelings on Max Verstappen clear when tapping him at Hungarian GP

Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen were involved in a dramatic collision during the 2024 Hungarian Grand Prix, with unseen footage showing the Brit checking in on his rival after the race
Lewis Hamilton demonstrated his sportsmanship when he approached Max Verstappen in the media pen to check he was okay following their collision at the Hungarian Grand Prix. During the 2024 race at the Hungaroring – which saw Oscar Piastri claim victory – considerable drama unfolded in the closing stages, involving Hamilton and Verstappen.

The Briton, who was still competing in his final campaign with Mercedes, was preparing to turn into the opening corner on lap 63 when the Red Bull star attempted an overtake on the inside.

Nevertheless, the four-time consecutive Formula One world champion couldn't pull off the manoeuvre as he locked his brakes, resulting in contact between the duo and sending the Dutchman's car into the air.

Though initially annoyed with Hamilton in what wasn't their first clash between these racing titans, the 27-year-old's race engineer Gianpiero Lambiase informed his driver that they would allow the stewards to examine the incident, reports the Express.
Whilst the competitors have battled numerous times previously, their shared respect was evident to witness.
Following the race, Hamilton chose to approach Verstappen, with the Brit walking over to the media pen to tap his shoulder before they had a quick conversation.
When questioned about his view on their incident, Hamilton told Sky Sports F1: "For me, it was a racing incident. He was much quicker. I turned but left enough space. He locked up and there was contact. If he was under control, he would have been passed."
The stewards ruled it a racing incident with neither driver at fault. The contact left Verstappen lamenting a lost podium opportunity as he tumbled to fifth following the clash, whilst Hamilton secured third spot to become the first driver to reach 200 career podiums.

Ferrari's lacklustre campaign this season has attracted significant criticism, with Charles Leclerc and Hamilton languishing fifth and sixth respectively in the Drivers' Championship standings, heaping pressure on team boss Frederic Vasseur.
Nevertheless, the Frenchman has now been handed a multi-year contract extension ahead of Sunday's Hungarian Grand Prix. The Italian outfit issued a statement on Thursday declaring: "Ferrari announced today that Ferrari S.p.A. has extended, with a multiple-year contract, its agreement with Fred Vasseur, who will continue as team principal of Scuderia Ferrari HP for the coming Formula 1 seasons.

"Renewing Fred's contract reflects our determination to build on the foundations laid so far. His ability to lead under pressure, embrace innovation, and pursue performance aligns fully with Ferrari's values and long-term ambitions.
"Under Fred's leadership, Scuderia Ferrari HP is united, focused, and committed to continuous improvement. The trust placed in him reflects the team's confidence in its strategic direction and reinforces a shared determination to deliver the results that Ferrari's fans, drivers, and team members expect and deserve."
Vasseur has received public backing from Hamilton and Leclerc recently and Martin Brundle seconded their opinion as last month he said: "It would be nuts to change Fred Vasseur. Is he the problem? I don't think he's the problem at the moment. The car's not fast enough. Now, that's a collaboration between everybody in the team.
"Who would you replace them with? And then a new crew comes in, and everybody keeps their head down, start working in silos, waiting to see where they stand with the new boss. That's the last thing Ferrari need to do at the moment."

Max Verstappen and girlfriend Kelly Piquet purchase plot of land at luxury development Pinheirinho Comporta in Portugal

Max Verstappen and his girlfriend Kelly Piquet have purchased a plot of land at the luxury development Pinheirinho Comporta in Portugal. Daily Mail understands that the F1 star, 27, and model Kelly, 36, are planning to build a property here, after spending plenty of time in the sunny holiday destination. Max's jet was recently spotted at the airport nearby, and he spent time playing golf with his friends and relaxing on the beach at the exclusive UltraLuxe Pinheirinho Comporta resort. This is the second year in a row the couple have spent their summer in the area, with Kelly often sharing holiday snaps with her social media followers. Pinheirinho is a large coastal estate near Comporta, Portugal, known for its natural beauty and high-end development. It features a blend of luxury residences, a championship golf course, and a resort and spa. Beyond golf, the area offers opportunities for surfing, horseback riding, tennis, and other outdoor activities. Other celebrity residents include Christian Louboutin, Princess Eugenie and visitors include Claudia Schiffer, Madonna and Harrison Ford. Daily Mail has contacted Max and Kelly's representatives for comment. The news comes after stewards issued a verdict after Red Bull driver Max was placed under investigation for throwing a towel onto the track during Friday's second practice session in Hungary. The reigning world champion was seen discarding a white rag from his cockpit on the exit of turn three, only for it to land on the grass next to the track, triggering a formal summons from race officials. Verstappen made a visible effort to throw the towel as far away from the racing line as possible, driving all the way to the right side of the track to dispose of it. As such, the stewards adopted a lenient view of the incident, and allowed Red Bull's star driver to escape with a mere warning. Max welcomed his first child with girlfriend Kelly in May this year. Pinheirinho is a large coastal estate near Comporta, Portugal, known for its natural beauty and high-end development He announced the news on Instagram, sharing a slew of black and white snaps of their baby girl, whom he called the 'greatest gift' and revealed they had named her Lily. Alongside the adorable pictures, he wrote: 'Welcome to the world, sweet Lily. Our hearts are fuller than ever - you are our greatest gift. We love you so much.' While Lily is Max's first child, Kelly already has a daughter, Penelope, born in 2019, from her previous relationship with Formula One driver Daniil Kvyat, 30. When talking about having his first child, Max previously explained he is already somewhat prepared thanks to Penelope. The Dutchman said in the Talking Bull podcast : 'Luckily I did get a little bit of training with Penelope, seeing her grow up already for like four years. Which has been also really, really nice. 'But yes, for sure, when it's like, also going be fully your own [kid]... Yes, it's going to be a different challenge. But I'm looking forward to it'. The couple began dating in October 2020, and announced that they were expecting their first child together last December. Despite having a nine-year age gap, Kelly previously said that her relationship with Max is thriving because of the mutual understanding they have for each other. Kelly, said: 'I think we have a very healthy relationship, easygoing, we have a lot of understanding and support for each other. 'You would think the age difference could be a challenge, but so far things are going really well. 'I also really appreciate how he treats Penelope. It's so sweet to see.' The subject of marriage has been publicly addressed by Max, who said that only 'time will tell' if he and Kelly decide to tie the knot. Kelly is the daughter of F1 legend Nelson Piquet, who won three Drivers' Championships himself in the 1980s, though he was also embroiled in a racism scandal with Lewis Hamilton.

Lecomte has spent the majority of his career in his homeland with only loan spells at Atletico Madrid and Espanyol seeing him leave. Fulham feel they have a strong and decent-sized squad as it is, and their primary focus has been on keeping hold of their current talent. That has seen them tie down full-back Kenny Tete to a new contract, despite a tempting offer from Everton for the Dutchman. McLaren admit Lando Norris vs Oscar Piastri could turn into Lewis Hamilton 2007 nightmare

McLaren have two drivers battling each other for the F1 title again and in 2007 the last time that happened, it didn't end so well between Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso McLaren will let Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri race for title glory – but admit things could blow up as badly as the last time they had two drivers in a championship fight. The feud between rookie Lewis Hamilton and two-time champion Fernando Alonso in 2007 tore the team apart. ‌ It led to Alonso quitting after both were beaten to the Formula 1 title by Kimi Raikkonen, who remains the most recent champion to win with Ferrari. Max Verstappen is 97 points behind championship leader Piastri and so a repeat of that is highly unlikely to happen. ‌ And the Aussie has managed to maintain a strong relationship with Norris despite both hunting individual honours. But McLaren Racing chief executive Zak Brown admits that could all change as they remain committed to letting their drivers decide things on track. ‌ The American said: "We're comfortable with how we go racing. We also know we don't always get it right. We are and always will be, and I think we always have been, a two-car team. We recognise the consequences of that could be 2007. You got two drivers that tie and lose to Kimi by a point. "We could have won that drivers' championship, but who do you pick? And then you run the risk of the guy you don't pick, he's out of here. Our drivers are treated equally fairly. There's nothing in their contract that gives one priority over the other, nor have they ever asked for that. They just want fair and equal treatment. "We know that benefits the team. They accept that, they're cool with that, and we know the risk of that, if you'd like, from a driver point of view, is 2007. But I think the downside of favouring one or the other is that one then wants to leave, which is exactly what happened at the end of '07 [anyway]. You see other teams favour one, and that kind of is beneficial to the drivers' championship, but detrimental to the constructors'. Both championships are equally important to us." McLaren are 299 points clear at the top with 10 rounds remaining and are almost certain to retain their teams' title this year. But things between their drivers are remarkable tight with Piastri just nine points ahead after Norris' victory in Hungary last Sunday. But that was a misjudgement on the Brit's part rather than two drivers going over the line, and Norris admitted as quickly as his apologies were accepted by both Piastri and the team. And Brown remains confident, adding: "I don't think they will properly fall out, because of the communication, trust and respect we all have, and they have for each other. We're very fortunate to have the two personalities that we have. We love the challenge - like, I'm looking forward to them racing each other. So we like it. It's not the elephant in the room."
