'Govt Considering Moving Bengaluru Cricket Stadium To New Location': Siddaramaiah After Stampede

The stampede outside M Chinnaswamy Stadium killed 11 people, while also leaving several people injured on June 4.
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has said that the government is considering relocating the cricket stadium to a new place to prevent any mishap in the future.
This comes after 11 people were killed in a stampede that occurred outside M Chinnaswamy Stadium during the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) victory in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.
Siddaramaiah On Shifting Cricket Stadium
Siddaramaiah said that the government is contemplating long-term solutions, as part of which the stadium could be shifted to a new location.
'The government will look into shifting the cricket stadium to another location," news agency ANI quoted the Chief Minister as saying.
'Such an unpleasant incident should not happen under any government. Personally, this incident has hurt me and the government. Five police officers have been suspended in this case. The intelligence chief and the chief minister's political secretary have been replaced," he added.
He said that the government has taken the case seriously and has also initiated appropriate action.
Siddaramiah maintained that his government has not done anything wrong in the entire episode that unfolded since June 4.
'This incident is saddening, but no misstep was taken by the administration. Legal action has been taken against those found guilty, so there is no question of embarrassment for the government," he said.
He also responded to the criticism by Opposition BJP and JDS, and said, 'Did the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh resign when people died during the Kumbh Mela? Did the BJP and JDS demand his resignation then?"
Siddaramaiah further said his government had no role in the organisation of the felicitation ceremony of the players on June 4, when the tragic stampede happened.
'The Secretary and Treasurer of the KSCA invited me to the felicitation programme. It's not a function we organised. It's a function they organised, and I was merely invited. They additionally informed me that the Governor was to attend it. Hence, I attended the programme. Apart from that, I am not aware of anything else," he said.
DCP's Letter Surfaces
Despite police warnings about security risks, the Karnataka government held a felicitation event for IPL team Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at Vidhana Soudha on June 4.
Earlier that day, DCP MN Karibasvanna had warned the DPAR in writing about security concerns. Vidhana Soudha officials also alerted DPAR chief G Satyavathi about a lack of security staff for the high-profile event.
'The RCB cricket team has a fan following across the country. Organising the event in a hurry on the grand steps of Vidhana Soudha when lakhs of cricket fans will arrive at Vidhana Soudha will lead to problems in security arrangements since there is a shortage of officers/personnel in Vidhana Soudha security division," the letter stated.

Robert Vadra seeks new date to appear before ED in Gurugram land deal case: Report

Businessman Robert Vadra reportedly sought a new date from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to appear before the financial probe agency in connection with the Gurugram land deal case. Vadra, the husband of Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi, was summoned by the Enforcement Directorate on Tuesday. He, however, has "informed the central agency that he would not appear today and sought a fresh date," sources told news agency ANI. Vadra had earlier appeared before the Enforcement Directorate on April 17 — the third straight day — for questioning in a money laundering case linked to alleged irregularities in a 2008 Haryana land deal case. The Enforcement Directorate's probe involves properties in London and financial transactions during the UPA regime (2004–2014). The central agency alleged Vadra's involvement with Sanjay Bhandari through the London property, financial transactions, and personal associations, supported by email trails and Thampi's role, News 18 reported. Bhandari is allegedly a close aide of Vadra and had fled India in 2016. He is currently living in the United Kingdom. On April 17, after the Enforcement Directorate interrogated him on Thursday in connection with the Gurugram land case, businessman Robert Vadra said that the investigative agency was asking him repeated questions that he had already answered in 2019. "There was no new question; all the questions were repeated from 2019. If tomorrow were not a public holiday, I would have to celebrate my birthday in the ED office. "Tomorrow is Good Friday, and I will celebrate my birthday with my family; otherwise, they will keep calling me," Vadra told the media. Vadra slammed the action as a "political vendetta", accusing the government of misusing investigative agencies to target opposition voices. Vadra questioned the ED's impartiality, alleging selective action against leaders from non-BJP parties while vowing to continue his fight against "injustice". "This is a political vendetta. Agencies are being misused. This is wrong. How will there be trust in agencies when they are after any candidates for the CM position in the country, or when a party is doing well? Which BJP minister or member has been summoned by the ED? Why has none of them been summoned? Is everyone in the BJP good? Do they not have any allegations against them? "There are several allegations," Vadra said. Vadra also claimed that the ED's action against him was fueled when he started raising his voice over atrocities against minorities. "If I were to enter politics, which is what everyone wants, they (the BJP) would either speak of dynasty or misuse ED. This difficulty started when, a few days back, I gave messages through social media regarding atrocities against minorities. This is nothing else. Ever since I said that people wanted me to enter politics, this difficulty has started. But the ED summons has no basis," he said.

ED attaches 92 additional properties in MUDA case

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has attached 92 immovable Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) sites valued at ₹100 crore in connection with its money laundering probe into irregularities in land allotment by MUDA, the agency said on Tuesday. Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah and his wife BM Parvati are under the ED scanner in the case. 'ED Bengaluru Zone has provisionally attached 92 immovable properties (MUDA sites) having market value of ₹100 crore (approximately) on Monday under the provisions of the prevention of money laundering act (PMLA) in connection with the MUDA case. The attached properties are registered in the name of entities such as housing cooperative society and individuals who are front or dummy for influential persons including MUDA officials,' ED said in a statement on Tuesday. ED's probe is based on a Karnataka Lokayukta first information report (FIR), which was closed by the state's anti-corruption body in February this year saying the allegations against Siddaramaiah, his wife Parvathi M, and two others could not be substantiated due to insufficient evidence. The financial crimes probe agency has already filed a protest petition before a special court in Bengaluru. In a detailed statement on Tuesday, ED said its probe revealed a 'large-scale scam in allotment of MUDA sites by flouting various statutes and government orders or guidelines and by other fraudulent means'. Also Read: Karnataka HC issues notice to CM, his wife in Muda case 'The role of ex-MUDA commissioners including GT Dinesh Kumar has emerged as instrumental in illegal allotment of compensation sites to ineligible entities or individuals. The evidence with respect to obtaining bribe for making illegal allotments in the form of cash, bank transfer, movable/ immovable properties have been gathered during the course of the investigation. The modus operandi for making illegal allotment involved identification of ineligible beneficiaries and making allotment using fake documents or incomplete documents in direct violation of government orders and also back dating of allotment letters in some cases,' ED said. ED further said that the illegal gratification received for making these illegal allotments was routed through a co-operative society and bank accounts of the relatives or associates of the officers playing key roles in the allotment process. 'The gratification thus received was further used to purchase some of these illegally allotted MUDA sites in the name of relatives of MUDA officers,' the statement added. The financial crimes probe agency had earlier attached 160 MUDA sites having a market value of ₹300 crore. With regard to Karnataka CM, specific allegations are that a 3.16 acre land plot was gifted to Parvathi by her brother, Mallikarjuna Swamy in 2010. MUDA illegally developed the land between 2011-13, following which Parvathi, in 2014, sought compensation. In 2017, MUDA agreed to compensate her, and in 2022, she was given 14 plots. After the controversy came to light, Siddaramaiah offered to return the 14 plots if his wife was given ₹56 crore as compensation. The MUDA 50:50 scheme, announced in 2016, entailed offering 50% of the developed sites as compensation to the original land owners. The controversial scheme was scrapped in 2023. In a statement in January this year, ED had said that 'Siddaramaiah has used his political influence to get compensation of 14 sites in the name of his wife in lieu of 3 acres 16 guntas of land acquired by MUDA. The land was originally acquired by MUDA for ₹3,24,700. The compensation in the form of 14 sites at posh locality is worth ₹56 crore (approx)'.

Bihar Elections: Alliance On Track, NDA Seat Finalisation Soon; Nitish Kumar To Be CM Face

Last Updated: According to sources, ticket distribution in the Bihar assembly elections within the NDA is likely to follow the same formula as in the Lok Sabha elections The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has decided to contest all seats in the upcoming Bihar elections, with sources saying seat distribution may not have been decided yet but other factors have been considered. 'Which caste will get representation on which seat has already been decided for all the 243 seats," a top source told CNN-News18. The state leaders have held several rounds of meetings to understand the share of seats that the NDA wants to contest. Another two or three rounds of meetings are expected to take place before the focus shifts to the finalisation in Delhi. After that, a detailed meeting with the alliance partners will take place to firm up plans for all the 243 seats. Also, there is no doubt in the mind of the alliance that Nitish Kumar will continue to be the face of the bloc. The decision to continue as chief minister after the elections will be left to Kumar, the sources added. On the kind of commentary that political leaders have been making against Kumar's conduct, BJP sources indicated: 'Any sensitive and sensible politician will never make a remark on somebody's health… One should always refrain from commenting on the health of seniors." Alliance partners Chirag Paswan, Jitan Ram Manjhi, and Upendra Kushwaha will contest in the state. Paswan had expressed his wish to contest the assembly polls, pushing forward his 'Bihari first' stance, and his party gave the go-ahead in a recent meeting. According to sources, ticket distribution in the Bihar assembly elections within the NDA is likely to follow the same formula as in the Lok Sabha elections. In the Lok Sabha elections, BJP contested 17 seats, JD(U) 16, LJP five, while Jitan Ram Manjhi's HAM and Upendra Kushwaha's Rashtriya Lok Morcha contested one seat each. Although BJP contested one more seat than JD(U) in the Lok Sabha polls, in the assembly elections, JD(U) may contest on one or two more seats than BJP. As per sources, JD(U) may contest around 102–103 out of the 243 seats, while BJP may contest on 101–102 seats. The remaining roughly 40 seats will be allotted to Lok Janshakti Party (LJP), Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM), and Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM). The BJP has decided that it will not award a ticket to a candidate whose feedback is negative in the last two surveys that the party has done. Seat sharing and seat allocation will also be done on the basis of ability to win. 'Any alliance partner who has lost the seat more than twice may be exchanged with the other alliance partner," the top sources added. Earlier, it was speculated that Union Home Minister Amit Shah would go to Bihar on June 15 but his visit stands postponed. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to travel to Bihar on June 20 for an engagement in Siwan. The Election Commission has indicated that the Bihar assembly polls will take place in either two or three phases. The full bench of the EC, including chief election commissioner Ganesh Kumar, is expected to travel to Bihar this month. First Published: June 10, 2025, 13:09 IST
