Sandeep had helped Arif financially several times. He spent Rs 5 lakh for his bail and also recently supported him in buying a flat, despite his own family struggles
In a shocking turn of events, a brawl between two childhood friends in West Delhi turned fatal on Sunday night, leaving both men dead. What began as a heated argument escalated into a deadly confrontation, raising disturbing questions about how a lifelong bond ended in such tragedy.
The incident occurred in Delhi's Khyala area involving 35-year-old Arif, also known as Aashiq Ali, and 36-year-old Sandeep Yadav, both residents of the neighbourhood. Their homes were separated by just three houses, and their friendship spanned many years.
The two friends had grown up in the same locality, played together, and supported each other through joys and sorrows. Sandeep sold bodybuilding supplements, while Arif ran a clothing business. Their families were also well-acquainted.
However, on Sunday night, their longstanding friendship took a deadly turn. The confrontation occurred between 8:30 and 9:30 pm in a park in West Delhi's Khyala. An argument broke out over unpaid dues for bodybuilding supplements that Arif had purchased from Sandeep. Sandeep, in urgent need of the money for his mother's medical treatment, reportedly confronted Arif, leading to the fatal clash.
Sandeep's sister-in-law, Sumitra Yadav, said, 'Arif called around 8:30 pm and asked Sandeep to come outside. Sandeep's wife told us they were arguing because Arif hadn't paid for the supplements." Sumitra added that Sandeep had supported Arif financially on multiple occasions in the past. He had spent Rs 5 lakh to bail Arif out earlier and had also recently helped him buy a flat.
The argument escalated into a physical confrontation, with both men attacking each other with knives in a fit of rage. Witnesses quickly rushed them to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital, but it was too late. The hospital informed the police around 10 pm that both men had died.
The police recovered two knives from the scene, now sent for forensic examination. Deputy Commissioner of Police Vichitra Veer stated, 'We have yet to determine who initiated the attack. We are questioning other individuals who were present in the park at the time."
Arif's relative Parveena expressed disbelief, saying, 'Arif and Sandeep were very close friends, with Sandeep even helping Arif with bail. We cannot fathom how this happened." Meanwhile, Sumitra said, 'Sandeep was asking for money for his mother's treatment. Maybe that offended Arif, and he attacked him."

Sharda University Student Suicide: Victim's Father Alleges Mental Pressure By Faculty Members

A second-year BDS student at Sharda University in Greater Noida died by suicide, alleging harassment and humiliation by faculty members. The father of a second-year BDS student at Sharda University in Greater Noida, who died by suicide on Monday, said she was under intense psychological stress due to the way certain faculty members treated her. The body of the student was found in the hostel room of the university, which comes under the jurisdiction of the Knowledge Park Police Station. The deceased student accused her teachers of harassment and humiliation in a suicide note. Following the incident, tensions escalated on campus as students staged protests, demanding accountability from the college authorities. A heated exchange also broke out between police personnel and protesting students. Seven people, including six university staff, have been booked in the case, and two faculty members named in the suicide note have been arrested. What Did The FIR Say? The student had complained to her father about being repeatedly humiliated in class by faculty members and threatened with academic consequences, according to the FIR seen by the Hindustan Times. The family told police that the student's father visited the university on July 14 after her daughter's complaint, and personally met the Dean, HOD and other faculty members, who assured him that she would not be harassed further. 'My daughter was under immense mental pressure because of how she was treated by certain faculty members. Despite my meeting with the university officials just days before, no action was taken. They gave verbal assurances but continued to harass her," the victim's father said. The student was reportedly told that her work would not be approved and she would be barred from exams. The next day, she took the extreme step. Her father said she was 'tortured" and evidence regarding her death was also 'destroyed". The university has not issued any official statement in connection with the case yet. The incident comes days after a college student in Odisha's Balasore district died after setting herself on fire, allegedly over harassment by a teacher. Fugitive in Delhi jewellery heist arrested after month-long manhunt

A 22-year-old fugitive wanted in connection with a violent armed robbery in North West Delhi's Subhash Place area has been arrested by the Crime Branch of the Delhi Police, authorities said Saturday. The suspect, identified as Shivam, had been evading capture since June 12, when he and two others allegedly stabbed a jewellery salesman and fled with gold and silver ornaments worth more than Rs 50 lakh. Police said Shivam was apprehended near Sati Nagar in Agra following surveillance and targeted raids. A case was registered under sections 309(4), 309(6), 317(2), 311, 3(5), and 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, officials said. One of the accused, Jitender, was arrested shortly after the incident, along with two alleged co-conspirators, Vijay Kumar and Vishal Sain. Shivam, however, managed to escape and remained on the run for over a month. The breakthrough came after Head Constable Raj Aryan received a tip-off about Shivam's possible location. 'Raids were conducted at all possible hideouts of the accused. Activities of all the friends and relatives of the accused were monitored covertly,' said DCP (Crime) Harsh Indora. 'Based on technical surveillance and local intelligence gathered by HC Raj Aryan and his team, it was established that the accused Shivam can be found near Sati Nagar in Agra. The team laid a trap near Sati Nagar and nabbed the accused. He confessed about his involvement in the aforesaid case of armed robbery and thus was arrested under Section 35.1(c) of the BNSS,' Indora added. During questioning, Shivam allegedly admitted that he turned to crime following the death of his father, which had plunged his family into financial crisis. Though he had previously worked as an air conditioning technician and at a clothing store in Rohini, police said his income was insufficient. According to the officials, he claimed he was introduced to crime by a neighbour named Kayam and later joined Jitender and others to plan the heist, driven by the allure of quick money and a more comfortable life.

Not a ‘super cop' to probe ‘anything & everything': Madras HC pulls up ED

CHENNAI: The Madras High Court has come down heavily on the Enforcement Directorate (ED), saying the agency is neither a 'super cop' to investigate anything and everything that catches its eyes nor a 'drone' to attack at will on any 'criminal activity'. The observations were made while ordering the release of Rs 901 crore fixed deposits of the Chennai-based RKM Powergen Private Limited. The company filed petitions in the court challenging a January 31 ED order to freeze the amount. The central agency had proceeded against the company under the PMLA based on a 2014 FIR registered by the CBI over allocation of coal blocks for running a thermal power plant in Chhattisgarh in 2006. CBI registered the cases under relevant sections as per the directions of the Supreme Court, which cancelled the coal allocation based on a PIL. The ED registered an ECIR under PMLA in the same year. While CBI filed a closure report in July 2017 finding no material of foul play in allocation of coal blocks, the CBI special court in Delhi did not accept the same and wanted further probe on certain aspects, including the environmental clearance. Subsequently, in August 2023, CBI filed a supplementary final report finding incriminating materials for prosecution for criminal conspiracy, cheating and corruption. Based on this, the ED conducted searches on January 31, 2025 and issued orders to freeze the fixed deposits. 'There should be a 'criminal activity' which attracts PMLA ... there should have been proceeds of crime,' the bench said in the recent order.
