Abracadabra, feel the beat under your feet — Lady Gaga is back on top.
The 'Mayhem' musician tops the 2025 the MTV Video Music Award nominations with 12, ending Taylor Swift's two-year run in the top spot.
Gaga is up for best collaboration, pop, direction, art direction, cinematography, editing, choreography, visual effects as well as song, video, album and artist of the year.
Rounding out the artist of the year category nominees announced Tuesday are Bad Bunny, Kendrick Lamar, Morgan Wallen and The Weeknd as well as Beyoncé and Swift. The latter two are especially noteworthy because the two pop powerhouses are tied for the title of most career total VMAs. Each have 30.
Beyoncé and Swift are only nominated in the artist of the year category at September's VMAs, so if one of them wins, they will become the most-awarded musician in VMA history.
Gaga is followed closely by Bruno Mars, with 11 nominations. Lamar has 10. Sabrina Carpenter and first-time nominee Blackpink's ROSÉ are tied with eight; as are Ariana Grande and The Weeknd with seven. Billie Eilish has six. Charli xcx has five.
Bad Bunny, Doechii, Ed Sheeran, Jelly Roll, Miley Cyrus and Tate McRae boast four each.
The top prize of the night, video of the year, sees Gaga and Mars' 'Die With A Smile' go up against Grande's 'Brighter Days Ahead,' Eilish's 'Birds of a Feather,' Lamar's 'Not Like Us,' ROSÉ and Mars' 'APT.', Sabrina Carpenter's 'Manchild,' and The Weeknd, and Playboi Carti's 'Timeless.'
The three-hour show will broadcast live on CBS on Sunday, Sept. 7 at 8 p.m. Eastern and 5 p.m. Pacific, broadcast live from the UBS Arena just outside New York City. It will also simulcast on MTV and be available to stream on Paramount+. A one-hour, live preshow will air across Paramount Media Networks.
CBS is home to a number of award shows, including the Tony Awards and the American Music Awards. It has aired the Grammys since 1973, though that show will head to ABC in 2027.
This year's Video Music Awards features 33 first-time nominees, which include Alex Warren, Blake Shelton, Brent Faiyaz, Gigi Perez, KATSEYE and Lainey Wilson. Mac Miller also became the first artist to get their first VMA nomination posthumously.
There are also two new categories this year, best country and best pop artist.
Fan voting began online Tuesday across 19 gender neutral categories and ends Sept. 5 at 6 p.m. Eastern.
Voting in the best new artist category will remain active during the show.

Brad Pitt's mother dead as family pay tribute

Brad Pitt 's mother has died aged 84. The death of Jane Etta Pitt, a retired school counselor, was confirmed by her granddaughter and Pitt's niece Sydney in a heartbreaking post on Wednesday. Sydney , the daughter of Pitt's younger brother Doug, lauded her 'sweet Grammy ', writing: 'We were not ready for you to go yet but knowing you are finally free to sing, dance, and paint again makes it a tad easier. 'If you knew Grammy, you knew she had the biggest heart. She cared deeply for everyone and everything, no questions asked. 'She taught me how to paint, how to be strong, how to lead with kindness, to love Jesus through everything, and to find joy in the smallest things. 'She made up the silliest games just to make us laugh, and she believed in fairness, in putting others first, and doing good simply because it was the right thing to do. She added Jane 'could keep up with all 14 of us grandkids without missing a beat. 'There was no limit to the love she gave, and everyone who met her felt it.' 'I don't know how we move forward without her. But I know she's still here in every brushstroke, every kind gesture, every hummingbird. She was love in its purest form. 'We were truly blessed to have her to love on growing up and I know she lives on through each of us.' Jane is survived by husband William Alvin Pitt, three children and 14 grandchildren. Son Doug has Sydney, Landon and Regan with his wife Lisa, while daughter Julie is mom to Caleb, twin daughters Josie and Rylie, as well as adopted sons Caden and Cruz, whom she shares with her husband Scott Neal. Pitt is father to Shiloh, 19, twins Vivienne and Knox, 17, and three adopted children Maddox, 24, Pax, 21 and Zahara, 20 - who he welcomed with ex-wife Angelina Jolie. He has been estranged from his children since an explosive fight on their private jet in 2016 resulted in Angelina, 49, filing for divorce - and last year insiders told the Daily Mail his parents were 'heartbroken' at not seeing their grandchildren for eight years. Brad Pitt's representatives declined to comment when contacted by the Daily Mail. Jane wed Brad's father William - the former owner of a trucking company - in 1962 and the future Oscar winner, now 61, was born the following year. After the birth of Brad in 1963, William and Jane welcomed son Doug in 1966 and sister Julie in 1969. They raised their family in Springfield, Missouri. While Jane and William kept mostly out of the spotlight, they did occasionally join Pitt on the red carpet. They memorably supported their son and then-partner Jolie at the 2012 Academy Awards. In 2014 they walked the red carpet with Pitt and three of their grandchildren at the premiere of Jolie's film Unbroken - after the actress was unable to attend due to chickenpox. Jane said of 'We're so very proud of Angie. This means so much to our family, especially our grandchildren. We love her dearly.'

Meghan celebrates new As Ever venture with behind-the-scenes clip

The Duchess of Sussex took to Instagram to showcase her new As Ever venture in a behind-the-scenes video of her lifestyle brand's 2024 Napa Valley Rosé launch. Footage showed Meghan popping a cork, emblazoned with the brand logo, on one of the bottles. The wine's product description describes it as evoking "soft notes of stone fruit, a gentle minerality, and a lasting finish" and "reminiscent of the finest Provençal styles." While the first wine launch sold out within hours, Tuesday's (5 August) product was still available to buy as of 8pm BST on Wednesday.

Scottie Scheffler 'rested, ready' to begin playoff grind

August 6 - Scottie Scheffler is ready to put his victory at the Open Championship in the rearview mirror when he tees off on Thursday at the FedEx St. Jude Championship in Memphis. Scheffler, the World's No. 1 golfer, captured his fourth major with a four-stroke victory on July 20 at Royal Portrush, Northern Ireland. The best golfer in the world since 2022, Scheffler notched his 17th career PGA Tour victory and his fourth since May, a run that included the PGA Championship. So, what's Scheffler been doing in the meantime? "Went home not shortly after, and then got some rest," Scheffler said. "I took a little bit of extra time resting. I think just because playing major championships takes a lot out of you, so it was nice to get home and get a little bit of extra rest." Hopefully for Scheffler's sake, the break in his schedule doesn't create an issue with his results. He has recorded 11 consecutive top-10 finishes heading into the playoff opener in Memphis. "Well, I think it all comes down to the preparation and showing up ready to play," he said. "Like I said, at this point in the year, that extra practice is maybe only going to be draining for me a little bit, and that's something that I've learned to manage as my career has gone on. I would say my prep week last week definitely looked a bit different than it would have looked before the Scottish Open and definitely looked a little bit different than it would have looked if you go back to the beginning of the year when I was coming off injury. So making sure I'm rested, ready to play. "My game is in a good spot, and I feel like some extra practice at this point in the year can almost be detrimental in terms of just physical and mental fatigue. Showing up like you're ready to play." Scheffler, 29, also has showed up on the big screen with a light-hearted cameo in "Happy Gilmore 2." The golfer even finds himself in trouble with the law, resulting in the police hauling him away. "Oh, no. Not again," he says in the movie. All jokes aside, Scheffler said he really enjoyed his time in that environment. "I mean, being able to film a movie was really fun," he said. "They got a great turnout from current players and past players. I think it's just because the first movie was so iconic and Adam Sandler is such an iconic actor and a guy that was a real treat to be able to work with. I had a ton of fun being able to film it. "The reviews for the movie so far have been great. I really enjoyed watching it. I thought they did a great job with the script and the golfers did a great job acting. Will Zalatoris in his role cracked me up. The dinner scene, there were so many good one-liners in it." --Field Level Media
