Caitlin Clark scolds Indiana Fever teammates as they beg for swimsuit endorsement deal

Daily Maila day ago
Caitlin Clark didn't have much patience for her sunbathing Indiana Fever teammates before Tuesday's loss in Los Angeles.
With the reigning WNBA Rookie of the Year nursing a groin injury, Fever teammates Sophie Cunningham and Lexie Hull spent their pre-game poolside, where they solicited swimsuit endorsement deals on TikTok.
'We are off to our game tonight,' read the post on Cunningham's page. 'Convince us there's a swimsuit brand that wants to partner with two Indiana Fever mermaids.'
Cunningham and Hull sported black bikinis in the short clip, garnering a wave of responses online, including a scathingly funny comment from Clark.
'Swimsuit brands,' Clark wrote, 'plz comment 'focus on basketball.'
Then, after giving swimsuit brands ample time to make an offer, Clark went in for the kill: 'And no one responds.'
Unfortunately for the Fever, the rest of their Tuesday in Los Angeles wasn't any better. Not only did they lose to the Sparks, 100-91, but the defeat was briefly interrupted by yet another sex toy being thrown onto the court by a hostile spectator.
Tuesday's incident in LA followed similar interruptions in Chicago and suburban Atlanta, where one man has been arrested for allegedly throwing sex toys at WNBA games.
Cunningham previously warned fans against throwing sex toys onto the court, only to have the projectile slid into her foot during the second quarter of Tuesday's loss.
'No way that thing actually hit me,' an embarrassed Cunningham wrote on social media, adding: 'I knew I shouldn't have tweeted that.'
Cunningham also addressed the disturbing trend in her 'Show Me Something' podcast.
'I was thinking about like, if someone threw that thing and like, first of all, the bounce that that thing had, if that smacks someone in the face, you know that's gonna be plastered everywhere,' Cunningham said.
'I just know how things go viral now. And I just know that thing like, even came from like the rafters or bounced and just slapped me right in the face. That would be what I'd be known for, for life. So I was just trying to protect all of our images.'
After giving swimsuit brands ample time to make an offer, Clark went in for the kill
Meanwhile, a Georgia man arrested for allegedly throwing sex toys onto the floor of two WNBA games last week was publicly identified Tuesday after being booked on multiple charges in an Atlanta suburb.
Delbert Carver, 23, was released from Clayton County Jail in Jonesboro on Sunday one day after being charged with disorderly conduct, public indecency/indecent exposure, and criminal trespass, according to online records.
Police say he was arrested after throwing a sex toy onto the court during the Atlanta Dream's win over the visiting Phoenix Mercury on Friday. He also allegedly confessed to police that he was involved in a similar incident in Atlanta's July 29 loss to the visiting Golden State Valkyries - a shocking moment that went viral last week and appears to have inspired copycats in Chicago and Los Angeles .
Carver was allegedly live streaming Friday's incident in Atlanta before being apprehended.

Woke animal rights group issues bizarre response after Kraken team mascot was chased by bear

An animal rights group issued a puzzling call to action after the Seattle Kraken's team mascot went viral for encountering a real grizzly bear while filming a promotional video. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) sent a letter to Kraken CEO Tod Leiweke that urged the team to stop promoting fishing after the incident went viral. 'In light of your mascot's recent experience of being "hunted" by a grizzly bear in Alaska, this would be the perfect time for your team to bench their fishing rods for good,' PETA founder Ingrid Newkirk wrote. Last week, the mascot, Buoy, shared a shocking behind-the-scenes look at the team's marketing campaign with star player John Hayden in the Alaskan wilderness. Their fly-fishing video was interrupted when a grizzly bear started charging at Buoy. Luckily, the team had a guide on board who alerted them to the bear. The videographers captured the close call on camera, and the video went viral on social media, alerting the attention of animal rights groups who warned against fishing. The PETA founder went on to say that fish don't want to end up as someone's food and suggested the team participate in 'animal-friendly activities like "trash fishing."' Newkirk argued that picking up trash is 'a great way to clean up waterways and reel in some good karma'. She referred to a post on X from Buoy about the bear encounter that read: 'no trolls or bears were hurt in the making, always respect wildlife in their natural habitat [heart emoji]'. Newkirk said that fishing sends the opposite message and condones injuring or killing animals. She referenced a study published in June in Scientific Reports that found that fish likely feel moderate to intense pain caused by asphyxia for at least 20 minutes after they're caught. 'In fact, fish who are released after they're hooked often die slowly from their injuries and the trauma of being handled,' Newkirk continued. 'Imagine having a hook through your mouth, then having it yanked out, and being released. Hardly harmless.' Newkirk argued that fish can feel pain, fear, and affection like humans and asked the team to send a 'kind message' about how fish deserve to be treated. 'Just as a grizzly bear decided to Buoy off his plate that day in Alaska, we hope your team will keep fish and other animals off theirs,' Newkirk concluded. The NHL team was collaborating with the Bristol Bay Native Corporation, a for-profit entity of around 10,000 indigenous shareholders with a mission of protecting the land for the promotional video-gone-viral. The trip is an annual ritual for the team's troll mascot, and the viral video was branded as 'experiential content' by marketing director Melissa O'Brochta. Hayden and Buoy made light of the terrifying incident after the fact in a video posted to X. 'I want to blame it on Buoy, they were pretty interested in his... his whole look. So, we got out of it okay, but it was a close call,' Hayden confessed. The team also shared photos of Buoy and Hayden fishing at Brook Falls near the Katmai National Park and Preserve for the marketing campaign.

Colts QB Anthony Richardson hurts throwing hand in preseason opener

August 8 - Anthony Richardson's poor injury luck continued Thursday night when the quarterback left the first quarter of the Indianapolis Colts' preseason opener at the Baltimore Ravens. Richardson got the start over offseason acquisition Daniel Jones and suffered a finger injury on his right (throwing) hand on his second drive under center. He was sacked by David Ojabo for an eight-yard loss midway through the first quarter, and replay showed his pinkie finger was bent at an awkward angle. Richardson immediately came out of the game, replaced by Jones. In his brief appearance Thursday, Richardson completed 2 of 3 passes for 21 yards. Richardson is battling to keep his starting job after making 11 starts in 2024 and briefly being benched for Joe Flacco. As a rookie in 2023, Richardson suffered an AC joint sprain in his fourth career start and soon underwent season-ending shoulder surgery. He missed two games with an oblique injury as well as two more due to back spasms last season and missed mandatory minicamp with a shoulder injury this summer. --Field Level Media

G Flip 'freaks out' Americans with Australian school tradition that no other country has: 'This has to be a lie'

G Flip has set the internet alight once again, with the singer dropping a 'bizarre' school tradition from Australia on unsuspecting Americans. The Aussie singer, who goes by they/them pronouns, has moved to the US after marrying Selling Sunset star Chrishell Stause. Earlier this week, G Flip left Americans baffled after explaining the concept of 'meat raffle' prizes Down Under. Now, the musician, 31, has reflected on the use of pen licences in Australian schools. When students are around nine years old, in year three or four, they are handed an informal certificate that allows them to officially transition from writing with a pencil to a pen. It's believed to be a schooling rite of passage exclusive to Australian kids. 'I'm an Australian living in America and today I found out that Americans don't get their pen licence when they're a kid,' G Flip said in a TikTok video. 'So, in Australia, when you're eight or nine, you do a test to deem if you are ready to upgrade from a pencil to a pen. 'You've got to make sure it's all legible and your letters look great and then your teacher will grade you... and you will then get a certificate that says you can now use your pen, you've got your pen licence. 'Apparently, Americans, y'all don't get a pen licence and you're out here using pencils until you're in your teens. That's a lot of sharpening!' The video has since been viewed more than 1.5 million times, with comments divided between nostalgic Aussies and 'freaked out' Americans. 'As a primary school teacher, I can't tell you the joy it gives me to give a student their pen licence,' one wrote. 'Anyone else left handed and have their pen licence taken off them when they smudged the ink across the page?' another reflected. 'No pen licences is crazy. How do you know you are safe and ready to use a pen without one?' one more wrote. Then came the other side. 'This has to be a lie,' American singer Lauren Sanderson replied. 'No... this can't be real,' another echoed. Even G Flip's own wife was dumbfounded. 'This can not be true - you have never told me this,' Chrishell wrote. G Flip received a similar response when they covered the beloved pub and golf club tradition of winning a 'meat tray' in a raffle. 'I'm an Aussie who lives in America and I have an American wife... I think one of the funniest things to explain about Australian culture is that you can win a meat tray at the pub,' G Flip (born Georgia Flipo) said in the video. 'So you go to the pub and you can buy raffle tickets to win a meat tray - and you just win a tray of various uncooked meats like steaks, chops and sausages from the butcher, completely raw. You get to go home with a meat tray. 'And everyone I ever told that to who's American is like... "What the f***".'
