New Adaptation of STARSHIP TROOPERS Coming from Director Neill Blomkamp
The original Hugo-award-winning novel told the story of an interplanetary war between Earth and a species of insectoid aliens. The main character in the novel is Johnny Rico, an exemplary soldier in the United Citizen Federation mobile infantry. The novel has come under fire over the years for its seeming fetishization of fascist ideologies. When Paul Verhoeven made this film right after the disastrous Showgirls, he chose to make it a satire of military propaganda films. Specifically, those produced by the United States during World War II. Sadly, his satirical approach went over the heads of many moviegoers back in the day.
James Cameron's Aliens was also heavily influenced by the original novel. Especially as that film has a squad of Colonial Marines going on a 'bug hunt' against the Xenomorphs, who are vaguely insectoid. A few years back, Blomkamp was developing a direct sequel to Aliens, that would have brought back Sigourney Weaver as Ripley, and Michael Biehn as Hicks, ignoring the other films in the franchise. That version never got off the ground, but we can't help but wonder if some aspects of that project will find their way into this new adaptation. There is no production start date as of yet for this new version of Starship Troopers.

Filmmakers claim late ‘Superman' actor Christopher Reeve would have opposed Donald Trump
Late 'Superman' star Christopher Reeve would have spoken out against President Donald Trump if he were alive today, according to the filmmakers behind his documentary. 'Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story' directors Peter Ettedgui and Ian Bonhôte spoke to The Hollywood Reporter on Tuesday about the actor's activist work, particularly for disability rights, after his tragic horse-riding accident that left him paralyzed from the neck down. Ettedgui pointed out that even prior to his accident, Reeve spoke on behalf of other issues, such as artistic expression and housing. 'There was a certain property developer in New York who wanted to develop a horrific modern-town plan, and Reeve led the objections to it,' Ettedgui said to The Hollywood Reporter. 'The property developer was, of course, Donald Trump.' The filmmakers added that actor Jeff Daniels, who worked with Reeve on Broadway in 1980, told them Reeve would have gone so far as to run against Trump. 'But he wouldn't have entered it for his own gain,' Bonhôte said. Speaking recently to The Hollywood Reporter, Danny DeVito revealed that he once nearly took legal action against 'It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia' after an on-set April Fool's Day prank went too far. 'We had one incident that was kind of a faux situation because — I didn't know it — but it was April 1st, and we were going to start shooting an episode that week,' DeVito, 80, said in the interview published Wednesday. Movie Reboots I'd Actually Love To See
It seems like we're getting some great original movies be a shame if someone made a post about movies to remake. Well, actually, with the success of remakes like The Naked Gun (a hit with critics and audiences), it shows that all it takes is a good story. Hello, welcome to my elevator pitches on potential remakes. Here are 19 movies that I wouldn't hate if they remade: Starship Troopers (1997) There's a chance to adapt the book by Robert A. Heinlein with better bug graphics and a story more faithful to the book. Or even giving the right director and screenwriter the liberty to add more modern after the success of Dune, it would be cool to give some of the best costume designers in Hollywood a crack at this it on Hulu. The Freshman (1925) Hard to believe a 100-year-old American football movie exists, but it does. Obviously, with the original being a silent comedy, the possibilities are endless.A simple story of a college freshman seeking popularity by joining the football team is such a basic concept that can be turned into so much more with the right people at the it on Hulu. The Austin Powers franchise Do you remember how Hollywood made Bel-Air, a serious reimagining of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air? Get ready for an overly serious adaptation—all the same ridiculous dialogue, but framed as seriously as the Bond movies. So, basically, the intro to Goldmember but Evil leans in close to his son, and whispers, "Throw me a frickin' bone."Watch it on Hulu. Lord of the Flies (1963) The classic by William Golding is in need of a reboot with tablet babies. There is a lot of room to stay loyal while playing with the idea of what it would be like for modern boys to find themselves seems like casting children has been getting better and better over the years (Stranger Things), so it'd be cool to see this tale in a modern it on Hulu. Wife vs. Secretary (1936) A story about jealousy between a secretary and the boss's wife, forced to spend time together. Take this outdated idea and flip it on its head. Love triangle? Spouse/secretary team-up? Enemies to besties? An LGBTQ+ storyline? Whatever the concept, there is something there with the concept and the title it on Hulu. Hitch (2005) Again, with the strides we have made with technology, online dating, and Tinder, the storylines are endless for what can be done with the concept of a professional matchmaker in the Hitch (2005) on Hulu. Speed (1994) An officer faces off with a bomber in a fast-paced action flick. If we can bring practicality back into action movies, Speed is a fun concept. Perhaps it can be a different vehicle other than a bus, but it needs to be big, loud, and it on Hulu. The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (2003) Great adventure literature characters team up to take on a world-threatening enemy. The entire concept feels like something that would get its own cinematic universe like the have the core group, but there are plenty of cool literary characters to the even bolder option is adding more modern literary characters. (Imagine Percy Jackson standing alongside Mr. Hyde.)Watch it on Hulu. The Day the Earth Stood Still (2008) I wasn't a fan of the 2008 version of Gort (big robot), so I'd like a reboot with a more practical design. I think a smaller budget would do wonders for this film. Imagine less War of the Worlds, and more10 Cloverfield before action, I say!Watch it on Hulu. Forrest Gump (1994) A ton of people do modern versions of "We Didn't Start The Fire" by Billy Joel, so why not a modernized Gump? Have Gump's life geared more toward the 21st guess who should play Gump? Tom Hanks! That's right. Get ready for some de-aging technology for a second Oscar it on Hulu. Pretty Woman (1990) Like anything rebooted, there is so much to add with the modern technological advances as far as the almighty dating scene. Bring the same heart and well-written characters as the O.G., but give 'em smartphones!Watch it on Hulu. Pixels (2015) I'm actually kind of serious about this one because the concept is a fun of an Adam Sandler comedy, imagine this film re-imagined, similar to something like Ready Player One. It'd probably have a lot of heart and nostalgia for video game fans. More sincere it on Hulu. Independence Day (1996) The original is perfectly corny and serviceable. The problem is, you have a guy obsessed with horror making this list. It might be leaning too close to War of the Worlds, but taking the elements in the O.G. and amplifying them could do concept of a UFO hovering over you and not knowing if it is good or bad is great it on Hulu. E.T. (1982) Good on Hollywood for never remaking or doing a sequel to this classic. I'm here for a good time, not a long IF they were to remake this, it'd be fun to see advancements in puppeteering for the E.T. it on Hulu. I, Robot (2004) This one is tricky because I think the 2004 version stuck to the themes of Isaac Asimov's book very well. There's still room to tackle new designs of the robots and perhaps de-2000s-fying elements about the it on Hulu. Fugitives for a Night (1938) For those who have never heard of this '30s film, the plot is basically: An actor and his girlfriend flee when accused of a murder they did not commit. It's an interesting concept that would be cool to see tackled in the modern Hollywood are wide open, too. Keep it more of a romance mystery. Add comedy. Whatever. The key: an interesting story. Watch it on Hulu. Practical Magic (1998) Witch sisters? Sign everyone original with Sandra Bullock focuses more on romantic elements, but I say lean even more into the sisterhood side of the script, and there is a lot of untapped potential with the concept. And, of course, have it all in a modern setting with today's technology, challenges, and it on Hulu. The Girl Next Door (2004) Adjust this screenplay to spotlight modern sex work and the struggles of living day-to-day lives for these a reboot would find a better-suited age gap for the two characters. Make it a college guy with a college woman with an OnlyFans or something. Or even an LGBTQ+ it on Hulu. And lastly, Cast Away (2000) Will they or won't it's just Tom Hanks' character with Wilson the volleyball. Perhaps the Wilson love story is what we have all been waiting for? No? Just me.I'm not saying they should write in a 20-minute love scene by the fire, but I think there is an extended cut they aren't telling us about. #ReleaseTheWilsonCutWatch it on Hulu.
