Antipsychotic meds, suicide note found in NYC mass shooter's apartment

NEW YORK (WPIX) — Antipsychotic medication and a suicide note to his parents were found in the apartment of the gunman who killed multiple people in a mass shooting in Manhattan earlier this week.
New York Police Department (NYPD) detectives searched Shane Tamura's studio apartment in Las Vegas and found several medications, 100 9mm rounds, a tripod for the rifle used in the shooting, and an empty hand box for the revolver, police said Wednesday.
Several prescription bottles for antipsychotic, antiepileptic, and anti-inflammatory drugs were also recovered, according to an NYPD spokesperson.

Tamura, 27, also left behind a suicide note to his parents, saying in part, 'I love you, mama. I'm sorry.'
In the suicide notes found at the scene, Tamura mentioned a man named Rick, who was the suspect's supervisor at the Horseshoe Las Vegas, where he worked as a security officer, police said.
'I'm sorry, Rick,' the note found in the shooter's wallet said.
Rick sold Tamura the AR-15 assault rifle used in the mass shooting for $1,400, as well as the BMW the gunman drove across the country from Nevada to New York City, police said.
Rick, whose last name is being withheld, has not been charged with any crimes.
Four people were shot and killed when Tamura opened fire at around 7 p.m. Monday in the lobby and the 33rd floor of the Park Avenue skyscraper that houses the offices of the NFL, Blackstone and Rudin Management, authorities said.
NYPD officer Didarul Islam, Blackstone executive Wesley LePatner, security guard Aland Etienne, and Julia Hyman were killed in the incident. NFL employee Craig Clementi was also injured in the shooting, Commissioner Roger Goodell said.
Tamura, a former high school football player from Las Vegas, shot himself in the chest and died at the scene, police said. Authorities said Tamura left behind three suicide notes blaming the NFL for his brain injury.
The three-page handwritten suicide note was found folded inside the shooter's wallet and written on preprinted planner-style paper, including a page labeled 'My Daily Affirmations' and another with 'Plan, Pause, Reflect, and Flourish' printed in the center, police said.

Zohran Mamdani spending big on private security despite earlier calls to defund police

The leading mayoral candidate for New York City, Zohran Mamdani, is spending big on private security for his campaign and personal life despite previous calls to defund the police. The campaign for Mamdani, who is the Democratic candidate for New York mayor and a self-identified member of the Democratic Socialists of America, has spent $33,495 on private security, according to expenditures reviewed by Fox News Digital. Expenses reported in the New York City Campaign Finance Board show that Mamdani's campaign submitted three payments to Advanced Security & Investigations in June and July. Advanced Security & Investigations, a New York state-based security professionals' group, offers a range of services, including armed and unarmed protective services. According to the company's website, it is also a "proud employer" of personnel from the New York Police Department, which Mamdani previously called to defund, as well as the New York State Police, New York City Sheriff's Office and several other law enforcement departments in the area. The purpose listed for the various payments, which ranged from about $8,000 to around $13,000, is "security." Mamdani has also recently made headlines for leaving New York City to throw a lavish wedding celebration in Uganda, which was reportedly guarded by armed special Ugandan military forces as well as his own private security detail. The three-day-long exclusive wedding bash in Uganda also included masked military security and a cellphone-jamming system. Mamdani has been facing intense backlash for his previous calls to defund the NYPD following a deadly shooting in midtown Manhattan last month that left five individuals, including the suspect and NYPD Officer Didarul Islam, dead. On June 28, 2020, Mamdani posted on social media, "We don't need an investigation to know that the NYPD is racist, anti‑queer & a major threat to public safety. What we need is to #DefundTheNYPD. But your compromise uses budget tricks to keep as many cops as possible on the beat. NO to fake cuts – defund the police." "We need a socialist city council to defund the police," he wrote again on July 3, 2020. Again, in December 2020, Mamdani wrote, the New York City Council "tried to make the NYPD reduce its overtime budget by half. They simply refused. There is no negotiating with an institution this wicked & corrupt. Defund it. Dismantle it. End the cycle of violence." However, Mamdani has taken a very different tone during his campaign, saying this week that those tweets are "out of step with my positions as a candidate." After the shooting, he told reporters during a press conference, "I am not running to defund the police." However, he has not disavowed a more recent social media post from December 2024 in which he pledged to disband the NYPD's Strategic Response Group (SRG), which is tasked with responding to mass shootings and other emergencies. He wrote, "As Mayor, I will disband the SRG, which has cost taxpayers millions in lawsuit settlements and brutalized countless New Yorkers exercising their First Amendment rights." Fox News Digital reached out to the Mamdani campaign for comment but did not immediately receive a response.

NYPD Searching for Lamborghini Driver Who Allegedly Hit Pedicab, Officer in Times Square

The driver of a Lamborghini who went through Times Square on Tuesday night could be in big trouble, the New York Police Department says — that is, if the NYPD can find them. An August 5th incident involving a blue Lamborghini Urus and an injured officer of the New York Police Department has led to the opening of an investigation into the driver of the 657-hp performance SUV, according to police. A video clip circulating around X started gaining traction earlier this morning, showing what appears an NYPD officer attempting to stop a group of streamers inside a Lamborghini Urus near Times Square; now, we have law enforcement's side of the story."On Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at approximately 2219 hours, police responded to a reckless driver in the vicinity of West 44 Street and 7th Avenue, within the confines of the Midtown South Precinct. Officers observed a blue Lamborghini, operated by an unknown individual, strike a pedicab and flee the location. The Lamborghini proceeded to strike a uniformed police officer, causing minor injuries to the officer's foot. The officer was transported to a local area hospital in stable condition. There are no arrests at this time and the investigation is ongoing," the NYPD's deputy commissioner of public information told to Road & Track. Clips from a Kick streamer who goes by "Shangel" posted on the evening of August 5 appear to show an alternate angle of the Times Square incident. The minute-long clip is focused primarily on Shangel's face, but the backseat passenger does pan the camera forward to reveal the interior of a Lamborghini Urus, as well as the blinding lights of Times Square. Analysis of the original angle video on X confirms Shangel's presence, and has matching dialogue between vehicle occupants. Statements from the NYPD indicate that the driver of the Urus has managed to evade law enforcement officials as of this story's publication. As a result, we suspect that the driver of this blue Lamborghini will be laying low for the foreseeable future.
