Spurs' Carter Bryant honors family member with jersey number selection

Bryant wore it in various events before joining the Wildcats, such as the McDonald's All-American Game and the Pangos All-American Camp. He was forced to change it upon joining the Spurs, with it retired to honor Hall of Famer Tony Parker. The 14th pick also wore a few other numbers, though each one was taken on the team. He opted to go with No. 11, which is the same number his uncle wore. "I wanted nine," Bryant said. "Obviously, Tony Parker has nine retired. (De'Aaron) Fox has four. Steph Castle has five. Dylan (Harper) got two. I was a Kawhi fan, so I was trying to get the two. Vic (Wembanyama) got one, so then I went through all of the numbers I liked and which ones looked good. My uncle ended up wearing No. 11 playing pro volleyball overseas, so I went with 11." Bryant helped the Wildcats to the Sweet 16, averaging 6.5 points, 4.1 rebounds and one assist on 37.1% shooting from 3-point range. He scored in double figures five times, including a season-high-tying 14 points, three rebounds, two steals and two blocks on Jan. 27. The 19-year-old logged six appearances with the Spurs in summer league, averaging 7.3 points, 4.2 rebounds, 1.7 blocks and 1.2 assists on 28.6% shooting from the field. He wrapped up his stay with a 16-point, five-rebound performance on July 17. Bryant has ingratiated himself well within the local community after volunteering at a couple of events this offseason. The team was excited to add him and is eager to watch him hit the court. UNH men's hockey coach Mike Souza named to staff for Spengler Cup Collegiate Selects squad

'So I feel really strong that we can put a very strong college lineup together and college hockey has always been a great pathway for players that maybe take a little while to bloom. There's always been great free agents that come out, and they're extremely successful in the NHL, and those are the type of guys we're looking for.' Legend of the game Dick Umile , Souza's predecessor at UNH, received the 2025 Legend of College Hockey honor at the Hobey Baker Awards Banquet last week in Lake Elmo, Minn. Umile coached UNH for 28 seasons, guiding the Wildcats to 596 victories, two national championship games, four Frozen Fours, 18 NCAA Tournament appearances, eight Hockey East regular-season championships, and two Hockey East tournament titles. The Wildcats won 20 or more games 20 times during his tenure. Souza played four seasons under Umile, posting a 23-42—65 line for the 1998-99 squad that the reached the national championship game before falling to Maine in overtime, and serving as captain for the 1999-2000 season. Souza returned to Durham in 2015 to serve as associate head coach, before taking over when Umile resigned following the 2017-18 season. Advertisement 'I did not know much about UNH until Coach Umile walked into my living room in 1995,' said Souza. 'He sat down, looked at me, and said, 'If you play for me, I will treat you like you are my own kid.' And that was the truth. And I saw that over and over again over the years. He meant what he said and lived it every day. I am blessed to have played for him and worked with him.' Umile received 11 Coach of the Year honors in his career, including the Spencer Penrose Award winner as National Coach of the Year in 1999. College Football 2025 Kentucky Football Predictions: Wildcats Ranked 52nd in RJ Young's Ultimate 136 Published Aug. 10, 2025 9:05 p.m. ET share facebook x reddit link This isn't your average college football ranking. My Ultimate 136 is a set of rankings that is fluid, but it's my job to look ahead and make a claim for all FBS teams based on what I know and why I know it. Here are the three pressing questions I started by asking when putting together this list: Who do I think is good? Why do I think they're good? What are the chances they will finish above or below my expectations? Here is a look at where Kentucky lands in my Ultimate 136. Kentucky Wildcats ranking: 52 Last year's ranking: 28 Top player: QB Zach Calzada: 38 career games (Incarnate Word and Texas A&M) going 23-9 as a starter; has thrown for 8,707 yards and 73 TDs in his collegiate career. [Kentucky's 2025 schedule] RJ's take: It's hard to find another SEC coach who likes SEC transfers more than Mark Stoops. This year he'll field former Texas A&M QB Calzada (by way of Incarnate Word), Oklahoma RB Seth McGowan (by way of New Mexico State), Alabama WR Kendrick Law and Oklahoma WR J.J. Hester. ADVERTISEMENT I'd be remiss if I didn't remind you that Calzada and Diego Pavia (Vanderbilt) are the only two QBs playing this year who have beaten No. 1-ranked Alabama, and Calzada did it with Nick Saban on the sideline. Stoops will need that kind of mojo after a 4-8 season that left many Kentucky fans wondering just how it got that bad this fast? Well, I'll tell you: The Wildcats are just 2-12 against SEC opponents in their last 14 home games and 7-18 against opponents for whom it just means more since 2022. Perhaps this is the time to remind UK fans that Texas, Florida, Tennessee and Ole Miss all come to Lexington in 2025.
