Screening panel set up to curb drug trafficking in Chandigarh
According to an official notification, the committee will be chaired by the inspector general of police (IGP), Chandigarh. Other members will include the legal advisor, superintendent of police (Crime), zonal director of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) or their representative, a representative from the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
The committee has been empowered to examine proposals received from various agencies and assess the seriousness of the alleged offence and the potential threat posed to public safety. Based on its assessment, the committee will forward its recommendations to the detaining authority.
The administration has clarified that the committee will meet as and when required and may also seek additional information or clarification from any agency if needed. The final decision will rest with the detaining authority, based on its satisfaction. The order has come into immediate effect and will remain in force until further notice.

The proposed site will house a modern, high-tech office complex for the bureau, which serves as the regional wing of the Central Intelligence Bureau, monitoring security, counter-terrorism, organised crime, cybercrime, and internal threats. Also, it earmarked 2 acres of land, costing ₹68 crore, in Industrial Area, Phase-II, for a dedicated branch office of the National Investigation Agency (NIA). The administration has issued a Letter of Intent (LoI) to the agency, and the cost of the land is ₹68 crore. As per sources, the Chandigarh branch of NIA will be headed by an inspector general (IG) rank officer, with one deputy inspector general (DIG) and two superintendents of police (SPs), thus justifying their demand for a substantial built-up area. In a bid to improve access to affordable and quality healthcare, the administration has also allocated 0.25 acres in Sector 51 for an Urban Ayushman Arogya Mandir (dispensary). Additionally, the UT has also allotted 1.73 acres of land to the directorate of enforcement in Sector 38 (west) at the cost of ₹59 crores. An LoI has been issued and construction is expected to commence soon. Meanwhile, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has requested additional land from the UT to expand its office in Sector 30. This demand comes at a time when the city is becoming a preferred choice for central government security and investigation agencies to establish their offices, such as the NIA and Enforcement Directorate. The UT is also in the process of allocating land to the Central Industrial Security Force and Sashastra Seema Bal in different parts of the city. Last year, UT had allocated 1.72 acres of land for the construction of Ladakh Bhawan in Sector 33 at a cost of ₹62 crore.

Armed Robbers Target Jabalpur Bank, Loot 14.5 Kg Gold, Cash
Jabalpur: In a major daylight heist, armed robbers looted gold worth more than Rs 14.8 crore and Rs 5.7 lakh in cash from a bank in the Khitola area, about 50 km from Jabalpur, this morning. The robbery took place around 11 am at the Isaf Small Finance Bank branch, with suspects threatening staff at gunpoint before fleeing within minutes. According to the police, the robbers -- believed to be six in number -- arrived on three motorcycles. CCTV footage shows at least four of them entering the bank one by one, wearing helmets to conceal their faces. They allegedly observed the staff for a while before drawing pistols and threatening to shoot. The assailants forced employees to hand over locker keys and quickly loaded 14.8 kg of gold and cash into bags. The bank staff said there were six employees, including the manager, inside at the time of the robbery. The branch had no security guard on duty at the time, reportedly because of recent changes in working hours for the festive season. Suryakant Sharma, a senior officer of the local police, confirmed that the robbers fled with 14,875 grams of gold and Rs 5.7 lakh in cash. "The incident took place in the jurisdiction of Khitauli police station. We have registered a First Information Report, deployed the Crime Branch, and collected CCTV footage. Clues have been found, and we are confident of cracking the case soon," he said. The police have sealed the district borders and alerted neighbouring districts, including Katni, Mandla, and Dindori. Multiple teams are scanning CCTV cameras installed in the bank and surrounding areas to track the suspects' route.

Multi-tier security in place for Independence Day functions: IGP Kashmir
Srinagar, Aug 11 (UNI) Inspector General of Police, Kashmir Vidhi Kumar Birdi today said that multi-tier security arrangements were in place to ensure peaceful Independence Day celebrations. He said the Jammu and Kashmir Police, along with paramilitary forces, have been deployed in strength to ensure foolproof security for the August 15 celebrations. Speaking to reporters in Srinagar, Birdi said rehearsal dill preparations are currently underway for the I Day function. ' We have also put in multi-tier security to ensure smooth and peaceful Independence Day,' he said. Three days ago IGP, Kashmir had chaired a security review meeting at Police Control Room Kashmir to review the overall security scenario and arrangements regarding the celebration of Independence Day. IGP Kashmir had instructed the officers during the meeting to strengthen security checkpoints, particularly during night hours, at vulnerable locations and along the city's entry and exit routes.
