IOA forms committee again, this time to ascertain roadmaps for early BFI elections
The three members committee will be headed by IOA's treasurer Sahdev Yadav, with executive committee member Bhupinder Singh Bajwa and lawyer Payal Kakra as the other two. What seems interesting is that Yadav and Bajwa had earlier objected to IOA president Usha forming an ad hoc committee when BFI tenure was over in February.
This comes just a few days after World Boxing had sent a letter to the Interim Committee that is running the day to day affairs of the sport to hold elections by August 31. Usha in the letter said that the committee would ascertain the reasons for the delay in elections and the current legal and administrative status of the BFI. The panel also would assess the implications of the delay on the governance and functioning of boxing in India. The sports ministry in a letter dated July 5 had requested the IOA to provide a way forward in consultation with World Boxing to ensure elections are held at the earliest.

Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu on Sunday launched new flight routes by IndiGo Airlines from Hindon Airport in Ghaziabad, reported ANI. With this IndiGo becomes the second airline, after Air India, to mark its presence in Hindon Airport. The Air India Express started its operations four months ago from Hindon airport. Hindon Airport in NCR will now be connected to nine Indian cities—Bengaluru, Kolkata, Varanasi, Goa, Patna, Chennai, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, and Indore—through IndiGo services. "This is an (Udan) success of, Hindon, Ghaziabad, western Uttar Pradesh, and entire country. This is an Udan of the ambitions and aspirations of common Indians," ANI quoted the Union minister as saying from the Hindon Airport. Speaking to reporters, Naidu said that airlines fleet, airports, terminal capacity, and flyers have doubled in India over the past decade. "During 2024-2034, civil aviation in tier II and III cities will grow and we will have to unlock the potential. Hindon will serve as an example," the minister said. Now, flyers based out of the National Capital Region will be served by these two airports after operations from both Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) and Hindon Airport (HDO) have become operational. Earlier in 2019, the Hindon Airport's development work was taken up under UDAN at ₹ 50 crore, in collaboration with Indian Air Force. During his speech, Naidu said that the annual flyers from Hindon Airport was about 8,000 in 2019, which has risen to upwards of 80,000 now. The union government in Budget 2025-26 has put an additional thrust on the ever-growing domestic civil aviation sector. A modified UDAN scheme will be launched to enhance regional connectivity to 120 new destinations and carry 4 crore passengers in the next 10 years, said Naidu. Launched in 2017, the UDAN scheme focuses on improving unserved air routes in underserved regions. India's aviation industry has experienced significant growth in the past decade, and the number of operational airports in the country has since doubled. The government aims to make India a global aviation hub by 2030.

"In a heinous terror attack on July 15 in Niger's Dosso region, two Indian nationals tragically lost their lives and one was abducted," the embassy said in a social media post on Friday. According to Niger media, unidentified gunmen attacked an army unit guarding a construction site in Dosso, about 130 kilometres from capital Niamey. "We talked on WhatsApp on July 15 and since then, I have not been able to contact him. I called his management and was initially told that there is no network at the work site," Sheela Devi said. She said she learned about her husband's abduction the next day through his friend, even as the management maintained that he had fled deep into the forest following the terror attack. "It has been four days since then. I believe that there is no effort to secure my husband's release from his captors," the mother of three children, said. She alleged that her repeated attempts to reach out to the company were being met with cold response. "I do not know what kind of situation my husband is in. I do not have any idea about the efforts of the local government," Sheela Devi said. She said she has also met Ramban Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Alyas Khan. "The deputy commissioner said he will do everything in his capacity, but I know the main work is that of our external affairs ministry. If they want, my husband will come home safely," she said.
