Phillies Predicted To Be Able To Lock Up Kyle Schwarber With 4-Year, $125 Million Blockbuster

The Philadelphia Phillies enjoyed a win against the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday thanks to some more heroics by their Most Valuable Player Award candidate Kyle Schwarber.
Schwarber hit two home runs in the game, including a grand slam, to bring his season total up to 40, the most of any player in the National League. And as Schwarber continues to carry the Phillies' offense, fans are getting anxious that he might not be a member of the team for much longer.
The slugger is making a strong case for a nine-figure contract as a free agent this winter and could receive a long-term offer from any number of teams if the Phillies don't extend him first. It isn't clear just how large of an extension offer it would take to keep Schwarber from testing free agency, but MLB Trade Rumors' Tim Dierkes was asked if a four-year, $125 million deal would be enough in a mailbag question from a reader named Fred.
"To Fred's question, yes — four years at $31.25MM per year should definitely keep Schwarber away from free agency," Dierkes predicted.

Schwarber doesn't play a defensive position and he will be 33 years old next season, which might hurt the potential ceiling on his next contract. But he's been better than ever at the plate this year and there's reason to believe the Phillies will find some way to offer him a blockbuster extension.
"The Phillies have a $185MM CBT payroll for next year at the moment, given Schwarber, JT Realmuto, Ranger Suarez, Jordan Romano and others coming off the books," Dierkes added. "There would be room to give Schwarber a contract with a $30MM AAV... ."
While the Phillies could theoretically make the room to give Schwarber an extension worthy of skipping his free agency, that would mean investing a lot in an aging designated hitter. It seems more likely that they will allow Schwarber to test the market and receive a chance to match his best offer in an effort to keep the cost as low as possible.
But if the team is determined to lock him up before a potential MVP Award makes that price even higher, a $125 million blockbuster deal would probably do it.

New Report Points to Kyle Schwarber Leaving Phillies for Newly Revealed Preference
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. The Philadelphia Phillies are in a position to make the postseason, and Kyle Schwarber's MVP-caliber season is a big reason why. Schwarber has a .256/.379/.585 with a National League-leading 40 home runs and a league-leading 94 RBIs through 114 games. He will be a free agent after the season, and he is set up for a raise from his current four-year, $79 million deal. Even though he does not provide much, if anything, defensively, many teams will be interested in him. ESPN's Buster Olney revealed that Schwarber may have a preference in free agency that is not the Phillies. PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA - AUGUST 4: Kyle Schwarber #12 of the Philadelphia Phillies rounds the bases on his grand slam in the sixth inning against the Baltimore Orioles at Citizens Bank Park on August 4, 2025... PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA - AUGUST 4: Kyle Schwarber #12 of the Philadelphia Phillies rounds the bases on his grand slam in the sixth inning against the Baltimore Orioles at Citizens Bank Park on August 4, 2025 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. More"Schwarber currently ranks eighth in the NL in WAR, behind multidimensional players like Pete Crow-Armstrong, (Shohei) Ohtani, Fernando Tatis Jr. and Kyle Tucker," wrote Olney. "But Schwarber is going to make big money in free agency in the fall, no matter where he lands. Some friends of his in the game wonder if he'd prefer to play closer to his Midwest roots." Schwarber is in his 11th season and will turn 33 next year. He is seemingly closer to the end of his career than the start, so it makes sense that he may want to play closer to his home. Schwarber is an Ohio native, but if he wants to play in the Midwest, there are a handful of teams to choose from. The Chicago Cubs, Minnesota Twins, Detroit Tigers, Cincinnati Reds, Cleveland Guardians and Milwaukee Brewers all play in the Midwest. Pennsylvania shares a border with Ohio, so perhaps he is willing to just stay in Philadelphia, but the fact that Olney brings it up makes it a point to note as his free agency looms. Of the teams that play in the Midwest states, not many can afford Schwarber. The Cubs may be willing to bring him back, but if he is interested in playing for the highest bidder, the Phillies may be a tough team to beat. FORMER U'S: Ex-Colchester United striker signs for National League new boys
FORMER Colchester United striker Rekeil Pyke has joined National League new boys Truro City on a one-year deal, with an option to extend. The 27-year-old, who made 12 appearances for the U's on loan from Huddersfield Town during the 2016-17 season, has linked up with City after leaving League Two side Grimsby Town. Pyke told 'It is a pleasure to join the club and I was at Grimsby Town last year. 'I didn't play many minutes, but I am hoping to rectify that here. The fans will see a lot of energy, hard work for the team and hopefully I can chip in with a few goals. 'I spoke to the manager and it is an exciting time to join the club and I can't wait to get going. "I have played at this level for Wrexham, whilst also playing in League 1 and 2, so hopefully I can bring my experience to Truro, so we can go on a good run. 'As a team, we will be giving everything to try and achieve something similar to last season. That is the goal for me in every season I play. Lyle Taylor makes shock non-league move after Colchester United exit 'There is a good togetherness within the group and I am happy to be joining a dressing room like this.' Pyke made his first-ever Football League start while on loan at Colchester, under John McGreal. The striker also had loan spells at the likes of Port Vale, Rochdale and Wrexham before leaving Huddersfield to join Shrewsbury in August, 2020. Colchester United sign defender Jack Baldwin from Northampton Pyke spent three seasons at the Meadow and had a loan spell at Scunthorpe United before joining Grimsby in the summer of 2023. He had a two-year spell with the Mariners and a short loan at Eastleigh and has now linked up with Truro.
