Anupamaa Actress Adrija Roy On Pay Disparity: ‘Women Work Equally Hard'

She expressed that equal rights in the sector are difficult to attain, but emphasised the need to speak up for one's rights. Anupamaa, starring Rupali Ganguly, Adrija Roy and Shivam Khajuria, remains one of Indian television's most popular shows. Despite dominating the TRP charts for a long period, the show has suddenly slid to second place, but Adrija remains hopeful that the show will continue to do well. In the latest, while she spoke at length about rankings, the actress also discussed the pay parity that still exists in the entertainment industry. In an interview with Pinkvilla, Adrija Roy was asked about her thoughts on male actors being paid more than female protagonists. Adrija replied, saying, 'It's disheartening that in 2025, we still need to talk about this. I do feel women work equally hard, sometimes even more, considering how emotionally intense many of our roles are." She expressed that equal rights in the sector are difficult to attain, but emphasised the need to speak up for one's rights. Adrija plays Anupama's (Rupali Ganguly) daughter. The actress stars opposite Shivam Khajuria, who plays Prem. The actress gets praised for her strong performance on the show. Her on-screen chemistry with Shivam has generated a large fan base. Moreover, speaking about the drop in the show's TRP, the actress said, 'Honestly, TRPs are such a mystery sometimes. Even when we feel we're giving our best and the story is strong, there can be weeks when the numbers just don't reflect that. I think audiences are evolving and their preferences keep changing. Maybe it's also seasonal, or something new caught their attention temporarily. But I truly believe in our team and the story we're telling—it still has a lot of heart." Adrija Roy started her career in a number of Bengali television shows before moving to Hindi television. Adrija made her Hindi debut with the show Durga Aur Charu, in which she portrayed the lead. Her stint on Imlie got her a lot of fame. Following Imlie's conclusion, Adrija was cast to portray the female protagonist in Kundali Bhagya. Initially, Alisha Parveen played Raahi in Anupamaa. Adrija replaced her later on in the show. Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Please keep discussions respectful and constructive.
