Woman stabbed to death in Romford linked to man who died on train tracks

Yahoo29-07-2025
A woman in her sixties found stabbed to death in Romford is believed by police to have known a man who died on railway tracks nearby just hours earlier.
The Metropolitan Police was alerted to concerns for the welfare of a woman in east London on Sunday evening. Officers rushed to a home in Bushy Close at around 9pm.
They found a woman in her sixties there who had suffered multiple stab wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The force said it was working with British Transport Police (BTP) following information that connects the woman's death to another death of a 20-year-old man on the train tracks at Romford railway station earlier on Sunday.
Police said early inquiries indicated that the man and woman were known to each other. BTP is treating the man's death as non-suspicious.
The Met said the woman's family had been notified and were being supported by specialist officers.
Police said no arrests have been made and the investigation remains ongoing.
Detective Chief Inspector Joanna Yorke, from the Met's specialist crime command, said: 'Our thoughts remain with the victim's family at this difficult time as we investigate the circumstances behind this terrible incident.
'At this stage, we believe this to be an isolated incident with no wider risk to the public.'
Detective Superintendent Simon Giles, from the East area investigations team, added: 'I understand that the incident is distressing for the community and we are working closely with our colleagues in the Specialist Crime Command to progress the investigation as quickly as possible.
'Those in the area today can expect to see our officers and we encourage anyone with any information to speak with them.'
Those with information can call 101, report online or contact 'X'@METCC quoting CAD6914/27JUL.

British holidaymaker arrested in Florida resort after 'trying to drown daughter-in-law in swimming pool'

A British holidaymaker has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after he allegedly tried to drown his daughter-in-law. Mark Gibbon, 62, was with his family at the Solterra Resort in Davenport, Florida when he reportedly got into an argument over the "stipulations of his will". According to the Polk County Sheriff's Office, Gibbon attempted to push the relative, 33, under the swimming pool at their place near Disney World. His granddaughter, nine, reportedly jumped into the pool to try and save her mother but he pushed her away. He is said to have stopped the alleged attempted drowning when two neighbouring sisters said they had called 911. Gibbon, of Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire, was taken into custody on August 3 just after 5.15pm. He allegedly admitted to pushing his daughter-in-law under the water but denied trying to drown her. 'She advised that she could not breathe and believed that she was going to drown,' deputies wrote. '(The victim) advised that she had to fight Mark in order to get away from him and from under the water but he kept pushing her back under.' Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said: 'It's great that Polk County draws visitors from all across the world, but we expect vacationers to behave while they visit with us, just as we expect our lifelong residents to do the same. 'Because Mr Gibbon couldn't control his anger, he may find himself spending a lot more time in Florida than he had anticipated.' He has now been charged with attempted second-degree murder and battery. He is due in court on September 9. Gibbon is a lighting technician who runs his own company, MRG Lighting, and has worked on music videos for the likes of Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith and Paloma Faith.
