Rock band backs out of legendary metal group's farewell concert

Wolfgang Van Halen said his rock band Mammoth was forced to back out Black Sabbath's historic farewell concert.
Van Halen, the son of the late Eddie Van Halen, was originally scheduled to perform at Back to the Beginning — Ozzy Osbourne's final concert scheduled for July 5 at Villa Park in Birmingham, England.
However, Mammoth (also known as Mammoth WVH) had to pull out because of a scheduling issue.
'I, unfortunately, had to back out because the Creed tour starts the day after, and I [wouldn't] be able to pull it off — unfortunately," Van Halen told Detroit radio station 101 WRIF. 'I'm very excited to watch it, but I unfortunately had to back out.'

Mammoth is traveling with Creed on the band's 'Return of the Summer of '99″ tour, which kicks off July 9. The tour includes a July 22 show at Xfinity Theatre in Hartford, Connecticut.
It's unclear what Van Halen meant by 'day after,' as Mammoth is not scheduled to perform July 6, but he may have been referring to tour rehearsals or time needed to get equipment in place for the U.S. tour with Creed.
Back to the Beginning will mark Osbourne's final performance both on his own and with Black Sabbath. The 'Prince of Darkness' will be joined by his bandmates Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward for the first time in two decades. Black Sabbath's last show was during the band's 'The End Tour' in Birmingham, England in 2017.
Tickets for Back to the Beginning sold out quickly, but fans can now purchase tickets to stream the concert online. Proceeds from the show will benefit the charities Cure Parkinson's, the Birmingham Children's Hospital and Acorn Children's Hospice.

Black Sabbath Hits No. 1 For The First Time

Black Sabbath earns its first No. 1 on one Billboard chart as 'Paranoid' tops the Hot Hard Rock ... More Songs list following the band's final concert in Birmingham. LOS ANGELES, CA - SEPTEMBER 24: Ozzy Osbourne of Black Sabbath performs at Ozzfest 2016 at San Manuel Amphitheater on September 24, 2016 in Los Angeles, California. (Photo byfor ABA) Black Sabbath said goodbye to fans around the world with a farewell concert held in Birmingham, England in early July. The group reformed in its classic lineup for one final show – an event that likely also marked the end of Ozzy Osbourne's performing career. Charts globally reflect the excitement and sadness drummed up by the performance, and in the United States, Black Sabbath scores a long-overdue hit, as the band manages to conquer a Billboard ranking for the very first time. Black Sabbath Lands a First No. 1 Black Sabbath launches 'Paranoid' at No. 1 on the Hot Hard Rock Songs chart. The group earns not only its first No. 1 or even its first top 10, but its first appearance ever on the ranking of the most consumed hard rock tracks throughout the U.S. The tally was introduced many years after Black Sabbath's initial commercial heyday, but some longtime fans may still be surprised by the fact that it took until 2025 and the group's swan song for the rockers to appear anywhere on the list. 'Paranoid' Returns on Multiple Rankings 'Paranoid' also debuts on both the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs and Hot Rock Songs charts at the same time. Coincidentally, it launches at No. 16, earning Black Sabbath just its second-ever hit. More than a decade ago, in 2013, 'God Is Dead?' arrived and spent a very short stint on the consumption-based rankings. Hard Rock Classic Hits the Sales and Streaming Tallies The same single, which is regarded as perhaps Black Sabbath's most famous and one of the most highly-regarded hard rock tunes in history, returns to both the Hard Rock Digital Song Sales and Hard Rock Streaming Songs charts simultaneously. 'Paranoid' reenters those tallies at Nos. 5 and 10, respectively. Those positions mark high points that 'Paranoid' has reached in the past, and the composition returns to them as interest in the band's music surges. A Classic Album Climbs Once Again 'Paranoid' served as the lead single from Black Sabbath's second studio album of the same name, which arrived in 1970. As the smash hit debuts and returns to several rosters, Paranoid the collection reappears on the Top Hard Rock Albums tally this week, breaking back in at No. 16. That slot serves as a never-before-seen high for the bestselling release.

"Presented as a love letter to Ozzy and the pioneering sound of Black Sabbath, the theatrical release will be a distilled version of the epic all-day event held at Villa Park," the description continues. The feature will also incorporate "behind-the-scenes access and interviews." The concert took place July 5 in Birmingham, England. Mastodon, Metallica, Rival Sons, Anthrax, Guns n' Roses and Jack Black were all part of the celebration. Osbourne, 76, is retiring from stage performances due to his Parkinson's disease. Ozzy Osbourne & Black Sabbath's Back to the Beginning Final Show to Be Released in Theaters

If you couldn't make it to Birmingham, England earlier this month for the historic Back to the Beginning final concert from Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath, you're in luck because Mercury Studios is compiling the best bits for theatrical release. According to Variety, a 100-minute concert film, Back to the Beginning: Ozzy's Final Bow, chronicling the show is slated to hit the big screen in 2026. 'Presented as a love letter to Ozzy and the pioneering sound of Black Sabbath, the theatrical release will be a distilled version of the epic all-day event held at Villa Park,' read a press release about the feature that will chronicle the all-star, all-day heavy metal gathering of the tribes in Sabbath's hometown on July 5 at Villa Park. 'Featuring thunderous performances of 'War Pigs,' 'Iron Man,' 'Children of the Grave' and a show-stopping 'Paranoid,' the film promises a deeply personal and electrifying farewell from the godfather of heavy metal with exclusive behind-the-scenes access and interviews from this iconic live performance.' Metallica, Mastodon, Anthrax, Pantera, Alice in Chains, Gojira, Slayer and a supergroup featuring members of Guns N' Roses, the Smashing Pumpkins, Limp Bizkit, Judas Priest, Rage Against the Machine were among the many acts on the bill that day. And while the sold-out show welcomed 42,000 fans to witness the final bow in person, with more than five million more streaming the epic event via VOD, the film will give those who were not able to watch the original gig a chance to see the magic. According to Variety, after the theatrical release of the Back to the Beginning movie in early 2026, there will also be a physical version available later in the year, with additional details on the rollout and release dates to be announced later. In addition to giving Osbourne and his original Sabbath band mates — guitarist Tony Iommi, bassist Geezer Butler and drummer Bill Ward — a chance to say goodbye, the event was also a bittersweet finale for Ozzy, who retired from touring in 2023 due to the physical effects of Parkinson's disease and a series of surgeries to correct a spinal injury. The rock icon performed a solo set and a set with Sabbath while seated on a throne at the show that was the original Sabbath lineup's first time on stage together since 2005. Before the Back to the Beginning film, Paramount+ will premiere a doc delving into Osbourne's health struggles and prep for the show in No Escape From Now, which is due out later this year. Billboard reported this week that the Back to the Beginning show was the highest-grossing charity concert of all time, donating roughly $190 million to a variety of charities, including Birmingham Children's Hospital, Acorn Children's Hospice and Cure Parkinson's — an organization dedicated to finding a cure for the disease Osbourne has lived with since a 2019 diagnosis.
