'That's All Folks': Scots TV legend Glen Michael was given a heartwarming final send-off on Tuesday, July 15.
Scots TV legend Glen Michael was given a final farewell by family, fans and friends as he was laid to rest yesterday.

The Cartoon Cavalcade host passed away at his Ayrshire cottage last week following a short illness. He was 99.

Glen was given a send off at Ayr's Masonhill Crematorium.

And mourners were left smiling after the Cavalcade theme tune was played his final committal music - before cartoon character Porky Pig raised a laugh with his famous catchphrase 'That's All Folks'.
Glen's son Chris Buckland, 66, and daughter Yonnie, 74, were among the mourners - and both paid glowing tributes to their dad.
Born Cecil Edward Buckland on May 16, 1926 in Paignton, Devon, Glen came to Scotland in 1952 to try his hand as a stand-up comedian, and stayed here for the rest of his life.
In 1966 he launched Cartoon Cavalcade on STV, featuring favourites including Bugs Bunny and Tom and Jerry which ran until 1992.

It became essential Sunday tea time viewing for generations of Scots with Glen accompanied by his companions including Paladin the talking lamp, Totty the Robot and dachshunds Rudi and Rusti.
He later took Cartoon Cavalcade on the road, performing live shows at schools across Scotland.
One of Glen's proudest achievement was winning a BAFTA award for the Best Children's Programme in 1975.

David Mitchell's emotional confession about relationship with wife Victoria Coren

Comedian David Mitchell has been happily married to Victoria Coren for over a decade. Comedian David Mitchell has lifted the lid on his relationship with now-wife Victoria Coren, which he discusses in his memoir 'Back Story'. The Peep Show actor confessed to being "hopelessly in love" with Victoria, who he says initially rejected his romantic advances. ‌ "I was hopelessly in love. I told no one about it," he reveals in his book. "I didn't tell my closest friends or my parents of the enormous sadness that overshadowed my life." ‌ The adoration he felt for Victoria lingered in silence until she finally consented to a date with him years later. ‌ "I waited three years. Isn't that weird? Aren't I odd? I can't explain it other than to say I couldn't do anything else," he reflects in his writing. "If only I'd known I just had to wait three years... I would gladly have suffered ten times as much." Although he was suffering, the star kept his anguish well-concealed behind his humour. "The problem is, I hate the sort of dating thing," he admits, reports the Express. "I just find it incredibly awkward... I don't dislike being single enough to put myself through the pain." ‌ David and Victoria, now host of BBC's Only Connect, instantly hit it off at their fatefully timed meeting during a Halloween party in 2007, having been introduced by fellow comedian David Baddiel. Victoria confessed: "He specifically said to me, 'There's David Mitchell over there, I think you should probably marry him, I'll get the ball rolling by introducing you. I thought that was ridiculous but, a couple of hours later, I thought I would probably marry him," as reported by MSN. ‌ Initially, Victoria brushed off the suggestion, but by the end of the night, she was sold on the idea. Despite their instant connection, it took several years before they embarked on their first official date, as the timing wasn't right. ‌ Victoria was still grieving the loss of her father, Alan Coren, who died from cancer in 2007. David patiently bided his time, never pressuring his now-beloved wife but always nurturing the hope of a shared future. Their first official date eventually happened in 2010, and they tied the knot in 2012. David has never shied away from expressing his deep love for Victoria. "I am just incredibly proud that someone like Victoria wants to be with me," he declares. ‌ "She has these amazing qualities, but fundamentally, we clicked. I fell in love with her." In his memoir, he portrays her as "too wonderful" and "too right for me." The couple celebrated the birth of their two daughters - Barbara Elizabeth in 2015 and June Violet in 2023. Scots ostrich egg helps duo crack world record for biggest scotch egg ever

Social media chefs Oli Paterson and Phoenix Ross created the world's biggest scotch egg - weighing heavier than a bowling ball. A massive ostrich egg from a Scottish farm has helped two social media chefs find their way into the Guinness World Records - by creating the world's biggest scotch egg. ‌ Oli Paterson also known as ElBurrito Monster, 28, and Phoenix Ross also known as Shef Pheonix, 27, spent 24 hours assembling the masterpiece, which tipped the scales at a shocking 7.8kg. ‌ The pair, who are known for whipping up supersized treats on social media, used more than seven kilos of sausage meat and a giant ostrich egg sourced from a farm in Scotland to create their colossal delicacy. ‌ Their first attempt ended in disaster when the scotch egg fell apart in the fryer. But after refining their technique including freezing the structure overnight, they finally succeeded. ‌ Oli who is based in Enfield, London, said: "I had made a five kilogram scotch egg a few years ago so I felt I had a good grasp on how to actually do it. "We'd had a failed attempt a week before the successful one where the scotch egg fell apart when it entered the fryer. "We added some key preparation steps, including setting it in the freezer overnight and it all worked out!" ‌ The record-breaking idea hatched after Phoenix was approached by Guinness World Records, who had seen his popular online series But Bigger, where he recreates regular foods at massive scale. But Bigger is a series where Phoenix showcases giant versions of normal food. ‌ Phoenix brought Oli in and the pair started brainstorming on what they could make the biggest version of. They debated a burrito, a beef wellington or a sausage rolls but those records had already been set pretty high. Oli said: "It took us a while to think of something that hadn't already been done to a massive extent. ‌ "If we had attempted to beat the Beef Wellington record, we would have had to buy a whole bunch of specialist equipment. "When we thought of a scotch egg, it was perfect especially because I'd already done a 5kg one and the record was only 6.2 kilograms." The pair ordered everything they needed, which included five ostrich eggs, a total 22 kilograms of sausage meat and a 40 litre fryer. ‌ The total price for the ingredients and equipment came to £505. Oli said: "The new fryer cost me about £150 but it was the eggs and meat that really shot the price up. ‌ "The five ostrich eggs, which I procured from a farm in Scotland, cost about £35 each. "Due to our failed attempt, we had to get more sausage meat, so total cost for that was £180. "It always feels worth it to try something new and exciting though." ‌ Oli and Phoenix both tried the egg and enjoyed it, though ostrich egg is not as tasty as a chicken egg. It is within the qualifying rules for Guinness World Records that the food made must be eaten, so the pair are steadily working through it. ‌ They have managed to transform the rest of it into breakfast burritos which currently sit in Oli's freezer. Oli said: "We're slowly making our way through the scotch egg. "It was definitely satisfying to try, but having had ostrich egg before, I knew it wasn't going to taste the same as a proper scotch egg.
