The perfect Haven holiday park for a kid-friendly break – with beach access, indoor waterpark and seaside theme park
The Seashore Holiday Park on the Norfolk coast proved a perfect place for a kid-friendly break.

With direct access to a sandy beach, the children squealed with delight as they let off steam along the golden sand dunes after the car journey there.
Arriving late afternoon, there was still time to check out Seashore indoor water park, and we soon found ourselves careering down high-speed flumes and slides, Tidal Twist and Coastal Cyclone, on inflatable doughnuts, no less.
For those with smaller children, there is also a toddlers' pool and interactive SplashZone with smaller slides, tunnels and water canons.
The next day, Harvey, 12, and Luella, ten, were eager to try more activities Haven had to offer — at a little extra cost.
First up was archery, and after a few tips from the super-friendly coach, even I was finding the target.
Junior Segway was next. Balancing was the tricky part, but once achieved, you just leaned forward to go and back to slow down.
In no time, the kids were sashaying through cones on their Ninebot miniPRO Segways, performing doughnuts and doing high-fives as they zoomed past.
Architectural gem
Back in the pool, Aqua Jet saw us propelled around the water at the click of a button, like characters from a James Bond movie.
But the joys of Great Yarmouth were calling — starting with the historic Pleasure Beach.
There's something for everyone from the classic dodgems and fun house to the high-octane Polar Express rollercoaster and the dreaded Pendulum.
Experience the Best of British in Great Yarmouth by exploring Joyland, Model Village and more
Having already experienced the terror of the latter ride, which mercilessly suspends you upside down 50ft up, I left this one to my children.
Just to show me up, they went on it TWICE laughing all the way.
My humiliation complete, we stopped for a bite at The Empire, an architectural gem with an eclectic interior as well as live music, street food and craft beer.
Surrounded by fairy lights, street signs and even a tree, it is a sight to behold and the Empire Stack burger will satisfy any meat lover.
Great Yarmouth's Hippodrome oozes old-fashioned grandeur.
Built in 1903 by circus showman George Gilbert, this quirky venue, which once saw legendary escapologist Houdini perform, is also home to a circus museum.
Snapshot of English life
The Pirates Live Action Water Show on the bill will appeal to landlubbers and swashbucklers alike.
Comedy duo Jack Jay and Johnny Mac star in this adventure involving circus stunts, pyrotechnics, acrobatics, trapeze artists and plenty of slapstick comedy on the water.
Merrivale Model Village, a hidden gem tucked away among the kitsch and glitz of the seafront, offers a snapshot of English life in miniature.
From haunted house to castle, the detail is incredible.
We enjoyed spotting the slapstick antics of OAPs escaping the old people's home.
Just don't forget to look out for the risque shop names on the high street in these interactive displays.

There is also an amazing vintage penny arcade attached with strength testers, fortune tellers and games such as Grand Prix Racer and The Mummy's Tomb, using the old two pence coins.
A round of crazy golf, on a classic nine-hole course, is also included in the price of admission.
Nearby, the SEA LIFE centre transports you to the underwater kingdom of Nemo and Dory.
As well as Clownfish and Blue Tang, the kids loved the jellyfish and seahorses.
In need of refreshment, we enjoyed a traditional ploughman's and afternoon tea at family-run Sara's Tearooms just off Great Yarmouth's seafront.
We'd packed so much into this trip, but still had time for one more stop on the way home — Thrigby Hall Wildlife Gardens.
Only 15 minutes from the coast and set in beautiful grounds, it houses exotic animals such as snow leopards, gibbons, monkeys, snakes, crocodiles and many more.
We will definitely be back — our Great Yarmouth trip had been a roaring success.

While travel advice is updated by the government, it reminded Brits that 'no travel can be guaranteed safe.' Where are wildfires happening in Europe right now? EU to send wildfire help to Spain as death toll rises — BBC News (World) (@BBCWorld) August 14, 2025 A drop in wind speeds allowed firefighting aircraft in the three hard-hit countries to step up water drops, concentrating on existing fire zones rather than chasing fast-moving fronts. Authorities warned that extreme temperatures are likely to persist. Spanish authorities reported the death of a 37-year-old volunteer firefighter who sustained severe burns in an area north of Madrid this week. It was the third reported death in Spain because of the recent fires. Thousands of people were evacuated from their homes in the region and still cannot return. Fires also burned in France's Aude wine region this week, along Bulgaria's southern borders, near Montenegro's capital and coast, and in Turkey's north west and Hungary recorded record-breaking weekend temperatures. From my hikes... This morning, wildfires in the "Picos de Europa" National Park. Temperatures rise, as well as wildfires risk. Just one of climate change's effects. Be aware of this. Have a good day! Spain - 2025#hiking #hikingadventures #nature #NatureLovers — Manuela Casasoli (@manuelacasasoli) August 13, 2025 Are wildfires common in Spain? The UK government said: 'Wildfires happen often in Spain, including on the islands, during the summer months.' It advised people to 'be aware of your environment when visiting or driving through woodland areas.' If you're unsure what to do if a wildfire occurs when you are in Spain, visit the Civil Protection site (the website is in Spanish, but you can choose to translate it to English). The government adds: 'Immediately report any fire you see to the emergency services on 112. In the case of wildfires, the situation can change quickly, so you should stay up to date with official advice.' Recommended reading: Be careful not to cause wildfires, the government warns: 'Causing a wildfire is a criminal offence in Spain, even if unintentional. 'Make sure cigarette ends are properly extinguished, do not light barbecues and do not leave empty bottles behind. 'You can be heavily fined for not following the rules against lighting outdoor barbecues in forest areas. Make sure you know the rules if considering a barbeque [sic].'

Small Scottish Highland village on banks of iconic loch that is stuff of legends
The small village lies at the heart of the Great Glen, flanked by Glen Urquhart and Glenmoriston, and provides an ideal base for discovering the Highlands. A small Highland village, offers visitors a rare combination of stunning scenery, rich heritage, and unique attractions, making it a top destination in Scotland despite its modest population of just over 1,100 residents. While many recognise Drumnadrochit for its connection to the Loch Ness Monster, there is much more to explore in this picturesque corner of the Highlands. The village lies at the heart of the Great Glen, flanked by Glen Urquhart and Glenmoriston, and provides an ideal base for discovering the Highlands, Express reports. Visit Scotland highlights the area's appeal, noting a wide range of activities including exploring the iconic Urquhart Castle, horse riding, cycling, cruising Loch Ness, and fishing. The loch itself, Scotland's largest, draws thousands of tourists each year hoping to glimpse the legendary Nessie. For those seeking more than the legend, Nessieland offers a hands-on insight into the myths surrounding the monster. Visitors can watch documentaries on historical sightings, explore the Nessie caves, enjoy an adventure playground, and take cruises along the loch, making it a family-friendly highlight of any trip to the area. Urquhart Castle is another cornerstone of Drumnadrochit's appeal. Set against dramatic Highland scenery, the fortress has witnessed some of Scotland's most significant historical events. The castle saw intense military action from the 1200s until its decline in 1692. It fell to Edward I of England, known as the 'Hammer of the Scots,' in 1296 before being reclaimed by Scottish forces, only to be lost again to the English. Today, the castle stands as a romantic ruin overlooking Loch Ness, drawing visitors eager to explore its storied past. The castle's popularity is reflected in its TripAdvisor rating of 4.3 out of five. One visitor wrote: 'I came to Loch Ness for Urquhart Castle. "The place transcends words, and inspires paintings. It's so gothic and romantic, I loved the fact that it overlooks the deepest part of the loch and called out to Nessie from the beach next to the castle. The best views up close is definitely to be had on castle grounds.' Another reviewer praised the castle's accessibility and scenic surroundings, saying: 'The magnificent Urquhart Castle is on the shore of Loch Ness and a beautiful and short drive from Inverness. "We left Inverness around 9am and had a very pleasant drive to Urquhart Castle stopping once at a popular viewing point to see the Loch Ness.' A third visitor added: 'The Urquhart Castle was a great experience! We spent around an hour and a half there and we were lucky enough to get great sunny weather so we weren't too cold and got great photos! "We really appreciated that we didn't need to go on an organised tour and we could just go through at our own pace and read all the information. "The castle isn't very big so you can really see everything they have there pretty quickly and see the amazing views. Our experience was probably made better by lucky weather but we would go back again for a peaceful walk.'
