UFC 316 medical suspensions: Julianna Peña out indefinitely thanks to Kayla Harrison's torque
UFC 316 is in the past, but numerous fighters remain on suspension until their bumps and bruises heal.
The event took place Saturday at Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. and featured 13 fights including two title fights.
On Tuesday, the New Jersey State Athletic Control Board (NJSACB) released a full list of fighters' injuries and their coinciding suspension. Fighters can return prior to the conclusion of their suspension if they are cleared by a medical professional.
The most prominent suspension is former UFC women's bantamweight champion Julianna Peña who is out indefinitely until her left elbow and shoulder is cleared. The potential injuries were likely sustained during Kayla Harrison's kimura that won the title.
Main event combatants Merab Dvalishvili and Sean O'Malley were not handed medical suspensions.

The UFC champ said she attributes her success to her faith in God, especially during the difficult process of cutting her weight to 135 pounds before fight night. Reflecting on her accomplishments in the sport, she emphasized how grateful she is to live in a country that gives her the chance to follow her dreams. "We are very blessed to be Americans and to live as free citizens in this great country. If I was born 90 miles south in Cuba and I did judo I would make $28 a week. So that puts it in perspective for me, and it keeps me humble and there really is no place like home."

Tristar's Mandel Nallo and Cage Warriors lightweight champion Samuel Silva are set to square off Sept. 2 on Dana White's Contender Series at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. Two people with knowledge of the matchup recently informed MMA Junkie of the booking but asked to remain anonymous as the promotion has yet to make an official announcement. Nallo (13-3) competed eight times for Bellator from 2017 to 2023. He compiled a 4-3 record with one no contest, as the promotion struggled to find him fights. That problem continued when Nallo hit free agency in early 2023. Since then, he's 4-0 in MMA with an additional win in bareknuckle MMA. All five of those fights he finished inside the distance.
