Dallas and Happy Days stars film Irish pub documentary with visit to iconic Cork bar

Irish Examiner26-06-2025
Dallas star Patrick Duffy and Happy Days actor Linda Purl have been on a tour of Ireland and recently made a stop at one of Cork City's most iconic pubs.
The pair, who have been in a relationship since 2020, posed for photos in the famous Hi-B bar.
They are believed to be filming a documentary about Irish pubs.
The TV stars previously visited Ireland in 2022 to trace Duffy's Irish roots and to film the pilot episode of a new TV series.
Duffy shot to fame in the late 1970s and 1980s when he played Bobby Ewing in the hit American soap Dallas. Purl is best known as Ashley Pfister, Fonzie's girlfriend, in the US sitcom Happy Days.
Posting a picture on social media, the Hi-B said they enjoyed a "great morning of filming" with the two stars in the bar.
"Really looking forward to seeing the documentary at Christmas."
The Hi-B, or the Hibernian Bar, is renowned for being one of the smallest pubs in Cork.
Located on Oliver Plunkett Street, the bar has become synonymous with its mobile phone ban, with staff encouraging punters to enjoy conversation and each other's company instead.

Irish rugby's power couples have a ball at Oasis concert

Oasis have brought hundreds of thousands of fans out in force this weekend for their first Irish show in 16 years. Among the waves of people descending onto Croke Park on Saturday night were a few of Ireland's top rugby stars with their other halves. Tickets to see the Gallagher brothers seemed to be like gold dust but it's no real surprise that these lads were quick to get their hands on some. Rob Kearney with his wife Jess Redden at Oasis. Pic: Instagram Brian O'Driscoll and his wife Amy Huberman were out in force as they intended the concert alongside Rob Kearney and his wife Jess Redden. The four were seated beside each other in Croke Park and O'Driscoll made sure to catch Kearney mid-groove as they enjoyed the historic night. He shared a snap of his former teammate on his Instagram story and captioned it: 'Definitely Maybe was still s****ng his pants when this album came out!' O'Driscoll caught Kearney enjoying himself. Pic: Instagram Kearney's wife also shared a couple of photos of the couple at the gig and made sure to let those going on Sunday know that they were in for a treat. She said: 'What a night. If you're going tonight, have the best time – iconic show!' Elsewhere in the packed-out stadium, Johnny Sexton was reuniting with a former rugby rival. Amy Huberman was all set for the gig. Pic: Instagram The ex-Ireland star attended the concert with England international Owen Farrell and each of their wives, Laura Sexton and Georgie Farrell. The four of them posed for a photo which Georgie shared to her Instagram story and Sexton re-shared to his. Sexton and Farrell would have had heated battles on the rugby pitch for many years but their differences were put to the side on Saturday night for the special concert. Sexton and Farrell reunited at the concert. Pic: Instagram Another former Ireland star also managed to make his way into GAA HQ to see Liam and Noel. Cian Healy shared a snap of him and his wife Laura Smith in yet another section of the stadium. The couple posed for a selfie as Oasis lit up Ireland for the first time since 2009. Cian Healy was elsewhere in the crowd. Pic: Instagram It'll be left to wonder however if any of the Ireland stars had any trouble with their tickets, as some fans reported issues on Saturday night, A number of standing section ticketholders have said they were initially let in to Croke Park but weren't given a wristband, which are commonly used by stadiums to identify who is entitled to access into standing areas. They were reportedly then later stopped from entering the standing area because of not having a wristband. This caused delays for fans trying to get onto the pitch and secure a spot to watch the iconic duo. Rob and Jess seemed to have a great night. Pic: Instagram Video footage from the concert shows a large number of fans still streaming onto the pitch after Oasis had already started performing. There were further issues at the other end of the gig on Saturday night, with planned pyrotechnics for the finale not going off 'due to a technical issue'. However, it won't be much of a concern for the tens of thousands of fans descending upon Croke Park for the second sold-out show as fans ultimately reported an unbelievable experience on night one.

Castlebar residents and business owners raise concerns about 'far right' festival

Residents and business owners in Castlebar, Co Mayo, say they have "significant concerns for public safety and the town's welcoming reputation" after being made aware of reports that a controversial 'far-right' music festival would be taking place near the town later this month. The 'Mise Éire Festival' was originally planned for Saturday, August 23, in the Mayflower Community Hall in Drumshanbo, Co Leitrim. It was moved from the venue following community opposition, and a petition calling for its cancellation signed by hundreds of prominent artists including Kneecap, Christy Moore, Frances Black, Chris O'Dowd, Fontaines DC, and The Mary Wallopers. A far-right rally planned in Cork for that date was reportedly set to be cancelled to allow supporters to travel to the festival. On Wednesday, August 6, a message shared on the Mayflower's social media read: 'On behalf of Mayflower Community Centre CLG we regretfully wish to inform the public that the upcoming 'Mise Éire' festival due to be held on 23rd August, 2025, will NOT be hosted at the Mayflower Community Centre. 'This is due to terms & conditions not being complied with. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.' Christy Moore in concert at Live At The Marquee, Cork earlier this summer. Moore and a number of other prominent artists had petitioned against the holding of the original 'Mise Éire Festival'. File picture: Eddie O'Hare According to Mise Éire Festival's event ticketing page, it is now slated to be taking place at a location "outside Castlebar". The description of the event says festival is "for those who cherish Irish culture, heritage, and are united in celebrating our shared values". Tickets for the event, which cost between 30 and 50, are sold out. On Sunday, a group of Castlebar residents and business owners said the lack of transparency surrounding the festival had "alarmed the local community" and the festival's decision to hire additional private security suggests "that even organisers anticipate a risk of public disorder". "Castlebar is a proud, welcoming town, especially at the height of our tourist season," one local resident said. An event shrouded in secrecy, which was already rejected by another community, is not welcome here. "We are deeply concerned about the potential for disruption and the damage this could do to our reputation as a safe and inclusive place for families, visitors, and investors." The group has also launched an online petition for people to register their opposition to the staging of the Mise Éire Festival in the Castlebar area. At time of writing, the petition had garnered nearly 800 signatures in the 24 hours since it launched. In a statement, the Castlebar residents and business owners say they want local authorities and elected officials "to address the lack of transparency and ensure all public safety, licensing, and planning regulations are strictly enforced".
