Paul Simon opened his 2018 Homeward Bound: The Farewell Tour on May 16, 2018 at Rogers Arena.

Choosing the more intimate confines of the historic theatre was a deliberate choice for an artist who normally plays large arenas. After all, this is the star who, on the Simon & Garfunkel reunion tour in 1983, broke the existing attendance record for B.C. Place with 45,000 fans in the venue.

His website notes under the announcement for the A Quiet Celebration tour that 'Simon, who has been dealing with severe hearing loss, has chosen intimate venues with optimal acoustics for this tour.' Simon had planned to retire from music altogether after his 2018 goodbye shows, but then returned to recording and touring with the release of the Grammy-nominated 2023 album, Seven Pslams.

When the 83-year-old finally strums off into the sunset, it will mark the end of a career that first saw him enter the Billboard 100 charts in 1961 when the single Motorcycle by Tico and the Triumphs hit number 99.

Beginning with the duo Simon & Garfunkel, the platinum-selling albums just kept coming. After a widely reported acrimonious break up, Simon's solo career took off with his 1972 self-titled Paul Simon. Since then, he has consistently created iconic albums, from Still Crazy After All These Years to Graceland and Stranger to Stranger. He is a rare double-inductee into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame with 16 Grammy Awards to his credit.

That legacy is one that the artist is constantly reassessing, as he told Vancouver Sun writer Neil McCormick in a September 2018 interview that ran with the headline 'But is it really over?' Even on the eve of his farewell, Simon was excited about his latest recording, In the Blue Light.

Calling her latest album Heidiwood isn't too much of a stretch for someone who has managed a steady seat at the celebrity table. First finding fame in 2006 after being cast on the MTV reality TV series The Hills, the American personality and singer has maintained a presence both onscreen and online. When Montag began dating fellow The Hills cast member Spencer Pratt, the celebrity couple dubbed 'Speidi' was born. Married in 2009, the two have been fixtures of reality television in both the U.S. and U.K. on programs ranging from Famous Food to Celebrity Big Brother U.K. From feuds with beloved English presenter Rylan Clark to swapping partners with Olympic athlete Amanda Beard and husband Sascha Brown on Celebrity Wife Swap, missteps are rarely something these two make. Although, it looked like Heidi had made a mistake releasing her 2010 debut album Superficial. Poorly-received by critics and fans alike, the move into music didn't trend well. But over the decades, the record achieved cult status. In 2023, 13 years after its original release, the single I'll Do It went viral on TikTok. When the couple's house was destroyed in the Palisades Fire in Los Angeles, Pratt put out a call to fans to stream Superficial to help the couple generate income to rebuild. The single No Going Home delves into the loss. Essential reading for hockey fans who eat, sleep, Canucks, repeat. By signing up you consent to receive the above newsletter from Postmedia Network Inc. It hit #1 on Jan. 12, 2025. Obviously, the moment had arrived to return to music and Montag released Heidiwood in May. She visits Vancouver this week for the Cum Together: Sweet & Sticky event with Heidi Montag on Aug. 2 at Celebrities Nightclub at 7 p.m. Tickets at She is touring Pride events across North America to support the record and chatted about this latest 'comeback.' You have been on the forefront of reality TV for almost two decades. How hard is it to repeatedly 'keep it real'? A: You know, it's a very challenging market landscape, with the balance of your reality, my reality and what everyone else is going through. I feel that it continues to change with social media and shifting situations in the world. People want both less and more of it, and that makes it quite tricky. After putting so much into Superficial and building that cult following since 2010. There is the previous and new generation of people who are listening to and really enthusiastic about my music and it's great. I love hardcore pop, which I mostly listen to when I'm working out, and the escapism it provides. I'll Do It received a second go-round on TikTok, then No Going Home really captured your experiences losing your home in the Palisades fire. Is it hard to channel personal tragedy into tunes? It was really hard to get through writing it through tears streaming down my face. And recording it was equally hard. If I can help anyone through my experience, in any way, it's something I want to do. You don't realize how many people go through similar things and a lot of people have reached out telling me it really helped them, which is wonderful. This advertisement has not loaded yet, but your article continues below. My biggest fan base, from the beginning, has been the community and my entire team is gay. So not only am I performing for the community, which is dear to my heart, but also some of the people I'm closest with. What is the next move for Heidi Montag? Right now, I just want people to be able to come and enjoy that 'pop 2000s' feel of my music and show. I am previewing my new single on tour and I have another full album done. I think they are my best songs to date and an incredible followup for Heidiwood, which was a big evolution. It's quintessential pop and I'm absolutely loving being back performing. So everyone get ready — because it's going to be a real good time. sderdeyn@ Read More Love concerts, but can't make it to the venue? WATCH — Chappell Roan name-drops Saskatchewan in new song

Her new song, The Subway, comes out July 31 Chappell Roan might call herself the Midwest Princess, but could she be the new queen of Saskatchewan? The Grammy Award-winning pop star name-drops the Prairie province in her soon-to-be-released single, The Subway. The song is about dealing with a bad breakup. Roan sings that if she can't get over it, 'I'm moving to Saskatchewan.' Roan announced on her Instagram account Monday that the song comes out on July 31. Saskatchewanian fans — and even the mayor of the capital, Regina — say they're thrilled with the shout-out, and even want Roan to make an official tour stop in the province. Click play and leave it to KN Contributor Maya Endale to explain: ⬇️⬇️⬇️ Wait a minute. Saskatchewan? The Prairie province isn't normally the kind of place that shows up in pop songs. 'A win for us from Saskatchewan for once,' one person commented on a teaser video for the track. Others said her first tour stop should be in Regina. The mayor of Regina, Chad Bachynski, said he was 'thrilled' about the mention. 'It's not every day that a Grammy-winning artist gives Saskatchewan a lyrical shoutout,' he told CBC Kids News in an email. 'It's a fun moment, and we welcome it with open arms.' Tourism Saskatchewan is also happy with the mention. 'We're excited to see Chappell Roan fans discovering Saskatchewan through the song,' a spokesperson told CBC Kids News. While they can't predict whether the song will lead to increased visits to the province, they said the tourism agency is 'always happy to welcome those who choose to explore Saskatchewan.' But is she really thinking about moving to the Prairies? CBC Kids News reached out to Roan and her team and have yet to hear back. So that remains a mystery! But if Roan is considering a move, she might want to learn the correct way to pronounce the province's name first. According to Bachynski, the last syllable of 'Saskatchewan' doesn't rhyme with 'gone,' as Roan sings it in The Subway. 'It's pronounced suh-SKATCH-uh-wun. Four syllables, emphasis on the second,' he said. 'We hope Chappell will come here for a show and we can teach her first-hand!'

These were our testers' three favourite launches this week: They say: A refillable eye cream from Clarins that features organic Harungana (a retinol alternative), vitamin E, horse chestnut and more to address eye area concerns including firmness and dark circles. The moisturizing eye cream also promises to provide an 'instant lifting effect.' We say: A small amount of this rich cream goes a long way, cloaking the eye area in a veil of hydration. Our tester, a woman in her late 60s, applied this eye cream daily for several weeks. She noticed an immediate lifting effect, as well as an overall improvement with continued use to fine lines and wrinkles. Plus, she notes, it didn't migrate or irritate eyes, even during the heat of summer. Available in seven stunning shades, the blush formula reacts to skin's unique pH to adopt a more cool or warm undertone. It's like a custom blush. We say: There's a reason these blush sticks have blown up on social media. They're chic, easy to apply and provide a gorgeous pop of colour where applied. Our tester tried the bubble gum-pink hue 001 Pink on the apples of her cheeks and found it provided a pretty pop that was easy to blend and build for a more dramatic effect. Love. $59 | Dior, Sephora Three Ships Jelly Drops They say: A fan-favourite gets a new name. The Canadian skin care brand's Dew Drops serum has the new name Jelly Drops, but its skin-loving formula featuring kakadu plum and Tremella mushroom hyaluronic acid remains the same. We say: This hydrating serum is like giving skin a drink of water. Our tester found a few drops applied to clean skin provided instant moisture and glass-skin effect. This one's for those who love a dewy finish. And, really, who doesn't? $50 | Read More Vancouver Whitecaps Vancouver Canucks Vancouver Canucks Celebrity News
