US tech CEO in viral Coldplay concert video resigns
"Our leaders are expected to set the standard in both conduct and accountability, and recently, that standard was not met," New York-based Astronomer said in a statement shared on LinkedIn.
"Andy Byron has tendered his resignation," the firm said, after previously launching an investigation.
During a Coldplay concert in Foxborough, Massachusetts on Wednesday, the jumbotron zoomed in on a man and a woman embracing in the stands.
But the canoodling pair appeared shocked and horrified when they spotted themselves on the big screen, with the man ducking out of frame and the woman hiding her face.
"Uh-oh, what? Either they're having an affair or they're just very shy," joked Coldplay frontman Chris Martin.
Within hours, internet sleuths tracked down the man as Astronomer CEO Andy Byron and said the woman was the company's chief people officer, Kristin Cabot, alleging that the two were having a not-so-discreet affair.
The video has garnered millions of views on TikTok and other social media, giving rise to memes discussing everything from the folly of having an affair at a Coldplay concert, to the hypocrisy of an HR representative seemingly caught in a workplace relationship.
"The craziest thing is about the Astronomer CEO cheating scandal is it was the HR lady," said one X user. "The person who would warn you against fraternising with coworkers."
Furry mascots of the Philadelphia Phillies Major League Baseball team jumped on the trend and recreated the scene for the jumbotron at a game after the video went viral.
However an apology statement attributed to Byron which spread rapidly online was fake and appeared to have originated from a parody account. - AFP

‘Do your makeup now!' Chris Martin jokes about Coldplay's ‘kiss cam' chaos after viral ‘affair' clip
MADISON, July 20 — Chris Martin is leaning into the kiss cam chaos that made headlines this week — cracking jokes about it during Coldplay's latest 'Music of the Spheres' tour stop in Madison, Wisconsin. 'We'd like to say hello to some of you in the crowd and put some of you on the big screen,' the 48-year-old frontman told fans at Camp Randall Stadium yesterday, according to fan-shot footage. 'How we're going to do that is we're going to use our cameras and put some of you on the big screen.' With a laugh, he added: 'Please, if you haven't done your makeup, do your makeup now!' Martin's playful jab came just days after a Coldplay show in Foxborough, Massachusetts, where the band's kiss cam unexpectedly sparked an online storm. On July 16, Andy Byron — then-CEO of data company Astronomer — was caught on the jumbotron with his arms around Kristin Cabot, the company's Chief People Officer. The awkward part? Byron is married to someone else. Reacting in real time, Martin quipped on stage: 'Whoa, look at these two. Alright, come on. You're OK! Either they're having an affair or they're just very shy. I'm not quite sure what to do.' He followed up with: 'Holy s***. I hope we didn't do something bad.' Despite the couple ducking for cover after spotting themselves on the big screen, the moment was captured by a fan and quickly went viral on TikTok. Astronomer launched a 'formal investigation' into the matter on Thursday, initially placing Byron on temporary leave before announcing his resignation yesterday — the same day Coldplay performed in Wisconsin. 'Astronomer is committed to the values and culture that have guided us since our founding. Our leaders are expected to set the standard in both conduct and accountability, and recently, that standard was not met,' a spokesman for the company told Us Weekly. 'Andy Byron has tendered his resignation, and the Board of Directors has accepted.' As the company begins searching for a new CEO, Coldplay's kiss cam lives on — this time with a warning from Martin himself.

WASHINGTON: The CEO of the technology firm Astronomer Inc. has resigned after being caught canoodling on camera at a rock concert with a woman who was not his wife, the company said on Saturday. The company posted a written statement on its LinkedIn profile stating that its leaders "are expected to set the standard in both conduct and accountability, and recently, that standard was not met." Advertisement The statement said that Andy Byron had offered his resignation as CEO and that the board of directors had accepted it. Byron had been placed on leave on Friday, and Chief Product Officer Pete DeJoy is serving as the interim CEO. Byron and Astronomer's chief people officer Kristin Cabot were caught on camera at the Coldplay concert on Wednesday in Massachusetts in an awkward clip that quickly went viral. A spokesman for the company said that the pair were the only employees of the firm caught on camera. The spokesman did not respond to a request for comment on Cabot's job status. Once Byron and Cabot realized they were being shown on a jumbo screen inside Gillette Stadium as they embraced, Byron ducked out of sight and Cabot covered her face with her hands and spun around. Internet sleuths immediately went to work and identified Byron and Cabot by their social media profiles before the company confirmed their identities. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Local gal Zoe Tan hits the right notes in New York
Zoe Tan expresses how she truly feels through her songs. (Andrea Rhiannon Edmonds @ FMT Lifestyle) PETALING JAYA : Like many seven-year-old girls, Zoe Tan was hooked on Disney Channel's Hannah Montana. She dreamed of standing on stage, belting out bangers, and winning hearts – just like her pop idol. 'I remember standing up on the sofa, pretending to sing like her, and realising this is something that I really wanted to do one day,' Tan shared with FMT Lifestyle. 'But I just didn't have the confidence that I would be performing my own songs.' Today the 24-year-old from Petaling Jaya, who is completing her degree in recorded music at New York University, is a budding singer-songwriter in the American city, with the singles 'Distance' and 'Walk Out The Door' already under her belt. 'I've had a hard time communicating how I feel straight up in person sometimes. But when I'm songwriting, it's the total opposite. I'm completely fearless and I have so much courage within myself,' Tan mentioned. The second of three siblings described her sound as 'cinematic folk music', a genre she's carving out with her own flair in the Big Apple. Tan is slowly establishing herself as a self-made singer-songwriter in New York. (Izzul Ahiaks) 'I wouldn't be where I am without growing up in Malaysia. That's where I found my voice,' she said, naming Demi Lovato, Selena Gomez, Shawn Mendes, and Ed Sheeran as key influences. 'What I bring to New York is my community and culture. My music is about creating connections through shared emotion.' Back in Kuala Lumpur for a short break, Tan is set to perform at Jao Tim on July 11. She'll also be releasing her debut EP next month, titled 'I Will Never Go Back to the Way Things Were Before'. 'Cinematic folk music is music that you can see, hear, touch, and feel with every fibre of your being. There's a certain perception of folk music that we have in mainstream media that I want to alter,' Tan explained. 'I want to bring elements from pop, soul, and R&B into my music … it's about capturing that feeling in the same way a movie does.' Tan hopes to tour the world with her brand of cinematic folk music someday. (Andrea Rhiannon Edmonds @ FMT Lifestyle) But music wasn't always centre stage. Tan once danced to a different beat – literally. Ballet, tap, modern dance, and figure skating filled her early years, thanks to her parents' encouragement. 'My school was putting up a Little Red Riding Hood musical and that's how I was introduced to musical theatre. I was so enamoured by the idea of music and performing. Of course, after trying out I realised I didn't like it and I went back to figure skating.' As fate would have it, music found its way into Tan's life through Ed Sheeran. She remembered falling in love with Sheeran's ability to 'tell stories that wasn't like a stage performance … he was just a guy with a guitar and I wanted to do something similar'. Her first song that really hit the right note? 'I'm At A Party And I Don't Want To Be Here' – an anthem about social anxiety. 'I was so proud of how I captured everything I was feeling. My parents loved it, too. It meant a lot because songwriting comes from such a personal place,' she added. Tan was inspired to stand on stage and sing just like her inspiration, TV's 'Hannah Montana'. (Hellen Madeitt pic) She recalled her very first public performance in New York at Pink Frog Cafe 'being scary' as it was away from the safety of her university. But soon, Tan found her voice through the kindness and support of the public. A high note in her journey so far? Performing at The Bitter End, a legendary music venue in Greenwich Village. 'Singers like Joni Mitchell and Taylor Swift have performed here. I remembered genuinely feeling the magic and the energy of all the artistes who have performed there before when I was up on stage. It was just a powerful feeling. It reaffirmed what I was doing,' Tan recounted. Ultimately, Tan hopes her music makes Malaysia proud – and one day, she dreams of taking it on tour around the world. 'I'm not in this dream for the money. It's just the feeling that it brings me every time that I do it. My ultimate dream is to just be able to live off of what I do comfortably, and to be able to share that and to grow my community,' Tan concluded. Follow Zoe Tan on Instagram.
