Mukah cops sharpen tactical skills, discipline in Annual Firearms Training
MUKAH (July 25): The Mukah District Police Headquarters has placed a strong focus on operational judgement, tactical readiness, and team cohesion through its 2025 Annual Firearms Training exercise.
Mukah police chief DSP Muhamad Rizal Alias, who led the two-day live-fire exercise, said the training aimed not only to sharpen shooting proficiency but also to build mental discipline and preparedness in high-pressure situations.
'This training is not just about marksmanship ― it's about making sound decisions based on real-time scenarios,' he said when contacted today.
'It prepares our officers to respond with precision while remaining grounded in legal and humane considerations.'
Held at the Bintulu shooting range, the exercise involved 139 personnel, including senior officers. Participants underwent a mandatory safety briefing before proceeding with the live-fire drills, which were supervised by experienced Mukah District Police Headquarters trainers.
Among the firearms used were the .38 Smith & Wesson revolver, Tara 9mm semi-automatic pistol, and CZ P10 9mm semi-automatic pistol.
Muhamad Rizal, who also took part in the training, expressed satisfaction with the level of professionalism demonstrated by the team.
'This training cultivates confidence and enhances operational readiness. It's part of our continuous effort to ensure that our officers are capable of safely handling firearms when required,' he said.
He added that such sessions also reinforce camaraderie and accountability within the force.
'We practise the principle of complementing each other ― sharing strengths while collectively addressing weaknesses. That's how we build team spirit and discipline in the field,' he added.
Looking ahead, Muhamad Rizal revealed plans to refine future training modules by incorporating greater emphasis on ethical decision-making and proportional use of force.
'Our next phase will centre on improving decision-making accuracy, balancing legal responsibilities with humane judgment.'

Mukah police chief DSP Muhamad Rizal Alias said in the first incident, an 18-year-old student lost RM7,100 after receiving a call from an unknown person claiming to be an insurance agent. 'The caller alleged that the victim's insurance policy was about to expire and needed renewal, or else a payment was required to cancel it to avoid automatic deductions from his bank account. 'Fearing the deductions, the victim made two separate transfers to bank accounts provided by the suspect but later realised he had been deceived after reviewing the transaction details,' Muhamad Rizal said in a statement. In the second case, a 40-year-old civil servant lost RM10,751.10 after attempting to buy a repossessed car advertised on Facebook. The victim communicated with the suspect through Facebook and WhatsApp and made three payments to three different bank accounts as instructed. 'The scam became clear when the suspect continued demanding additional payments without making any arrangements for the vehicle's delivery. The victim subsequently lodged a police report,' said Muhamad Rizal. He said both cases are being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating. He reminded the public to stay alert and verify all information before making any financial transactions. 'Do not panic or be intimidated by unknown callers, especially those claiming to represent financial or insurance institutions. 'Always confirm with the relevant agencies before transferring money. Be wary of offers that seem too good to be true on social media, particularly in vehicle purchases, as they may be scams,' he said. Man investigated for Zara Qairina post on social media
KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is investigating an individual for allegedly spreading false information on social media about the late Zara Qairina Mahathir. In a statement today, MCMC said the man was summoned to the Cheras District Police Headquarters yesterday, where investigators seized a mobile phone and a SIM card before recording his statement. The commission said the Facebook post in question contained false claims and touched on 3R sensitivities, race, religion and royalty, with the potential to cause public confusion and disrupt ongoing police investigations into the case. The matter is being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 (Act 588), which provides for a maximum fine of RM500,000, a jail term of up to two years, or both, upon conviction. MCMC urged the public to allow the investigation to proceed without interference and to be cautious about sharing unverified or speculative content online. "Spreading unverified information risks hurting the feelings of the victim's family, goes against ethical values, and can interfere with the course of justice," it added.

Palestinian kidnap case: Victim found bound with cable ties in Hulu Langat
KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court heard today that a Palestinian man was found with his hands and feet bound using cable ties during a police raid in Hulu Langat nearly three years ago. ASP Mohamad Jazlan Sharif, now with the Dang Wangi District Police Headquarters, testified about the September 29, 2022 operation. He stated that two suspects fled the chalet room but were apprehended after a brief struggle. Inside the room, officers discovered the victim restrained and immediately freed him. The victim's identification confirmed he was a Palestinian national. Eight individuals are on trial for the kidnapping, including Tengku Arif Bongsu Tengku Hamid and Mohamad Naziree Mustapha.
