Power out? Here's what to do if the lights go off
CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) — As severe weather rolls through the Lowcountry, many customers are losing power due to the storms.
As of 1:55 p.m., 6,363 Dominion Energy customers are without power as 253 incidents are causing outages across the state.
Nearly 2,000 Berkeley Electric Cooperative customers are without power, according to their outage map.
Severe thunderstorm warning issued for Lowcountry counties
Here is what you need to know regarding power outages.
Do not call 911 to report power outages. Call your electric company to report as quickly as possible and include details. Unplug all appliances that were in use before the power outage.

How to use the power outage map:
From the power outage map, you can report an outage or a streetlight outage or check the outage status by clicking the blue tabs at the top.
In the upper left corner, you'll find the gray menu tab. There, you'll find a power outage summary where you can see incidents causing outages, total Dominion customers reporting outages, and total customers served.
If you are looking for a specific location of an outage, click on the summary tab under the menu. Under the summary tab, you can view outages by county, ZIP code, and region.
Under summary is the weather tab that turns green when clicked. After clicking, you can mark radar, giving you a weather radar overlay of your viewing area.
To view the map legend, click the blue box on the bottom left with an i in the middle. The map legend will tell you the outage impact in your area and is typically updated every 10 minutes.
Click on the white circle with red, blue, purple, green, and red on the map to show area outage information, including incidents causing outages and how many customers are affected.

Weather Aware Weekend: Strong and severe storms are possible
Saturday and Sunday will be Storm Team 3 Weather Aware days due to a medium risk for strong and severe storms in the Coastal Empire and Lowcountry. We are tracking a disturbance that stretches across the southeastern U.S., as of Friday night. This system is forecast to send multiple rounds of storms into our area over the weekend. Temperatures will reach the low to mid 90s both days with heat index values over 100°F at times. Hot and humid conditions mean there will be plenty of energy for storms to become strong and severe. Saturday's storms will begin to set up in the later afternoon and will continue into the later evening. In general, isolated storms are expected between 2 and 6 p.m. More numerous storms are expected develop between 8 and 11 p.m. which will move across the area from west to east. Sunday's set up will be similar with storms moving across the area from west to east. However, the timing for storms will be earlier than what is expected on Saturday. Strong storms will begin to move into our western counties just after noon and will continue through about 5 p.m., with the strongest moving off of the coast at that time. Storms on Sunday will begin just after lunchtime and will continue into the very early evening with the strongest storms moving off of the coast by 6 p.m. and just after. Severe storms this weekend will be capable of producing damaging wind gusts over 60 mph. This will be our primary concern. Wind gusts may lead to tree damage and some power outages. Heavy rainfall will also be an issue at times, leading to localized flooding in areas with poor drainage. Rainfall totals will be between 1-2″ across much of the area. It is a good idea to think about what you would to in the even that a severe thunderstorm warning or tornado warning is issued for your area. Have a plan to get indoors and to the lowest level of a sturdy structure away from windows and doors. You also need a reliable way to receive critical weather alerts. A NOAA Weather Radio is a great tool to have in your home or place of work. They are dependable, even when the power and cellular service may be disrupted. Another great tool to have ready is the WSAV Weather NOW app which can receive weather alerts directly to your mobile device anywhere you are. Severe thunderstorms likely on Friday
(SOUTHERN COLORADO) — Thunderstorms are expected again over Southern Colorado on Friday, and some of them are going to be strong. There's a lot of wind shear in the atmosphere today, and that is going to help storms rotate. When storms spin, they organize and strengthen. The spin in the storm's updraft helps it to stay separate from the downdraft — this often results in large hail, and that is our biggest threat today. Most of the storms will move east, but any that start to turn to the right, and start heading east-southeast or southeast, may become capable of producing a tornado. A severe thunderstorm and/or tornado watch will likely be issued for parts of Eastern Colorado later on today. A WATCH means that ingredients are present for the possible formation of severe thunderstorms, and you should pay attention.
