Bihar polls will be the first test of the call to defeat BJP: CPI(M)‘s M.A. Baby
Efforts will be made to chalk out a strategy for the Mahagathbandhan to defeat the BJP in the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections, said Communist Party of India (Marxist) general secretary M.A. Baby, who was in Bihar on Monday (May 5, 2025) ahead of the polls due in October-November this year. This was Mr. Baby's first visit to the State following his election to the CPI(M) top post.
In 2020 polls to the 243-member Bihar Assembly, CPI(M) contested four seats and won two of them. Party candidates Ajay Kumar and Satyendra Yadav won from Bibhutipur (Samastipur district) and Manjhi (Saran district) respectively.
Before leaving for Kerala, Mr. Baby is scheduled to visit Madhubani on Tuesday (May 6) to meet district-level party leaders and workers.
'CPI(M)'s 24th Congress was held at Madurai in the first week of April, where party leaders gave a call to defeat the RSS-controlled BJP and its allies by forging the broadest possible unity of the Left, democratic and secular forces all over India. The first test of this call will come in the upcoming Bihar assembly elections,' he said.
Call for nationwide strike
'CPI(M) welcomes the fact that Mahagathbandhan of Bihar has already begun united and serious preparations to achieve this aim,' he said, while appreciating that 'Mahagathbandhan of Bihar has whole heartedly given a call to make the May 20 nationwide strike with a great success'.
The Left parties and Samyukta Kisan Morcha have given a call for a nationwide strike on May 20 against 'anti-workers, anti-peasants and pro-corporate policies of PM Modi-led Central government'.

Keeladi findings don't serve the script of ‘BJP-RSS ecosystem', says Chief Minister M.K. Stalin
Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Friday charged that the 'BJP-RSS ecosystem' recoiled from the archaeological findings from Keeladi in Tamil Nadu not because evidence was lacking, but 'because the truth does not serve their script.' Mr. Stalin's comments were made a few days after Union Minister for Culture Gajendra Singh Shekhawat contended that the findings from Keeladi were not technically well-supported. In a social media post, Mr. Stalin cited a newspaper report on archaeological findings from Keeladi site, which reiterated the findings published by the State Archaeology Department in its 2019 report 'Keeladi-An Urban Settlement of Sangam Age on the Banks of River Vaigai' on the site's 6th Century connection based on carbon dating. 'Ample proof' Mr. Stalin said: 'Even when confronted with carbon-dated artefacts and accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS) reports from international laboratories on the Keeladi excavations, they continue to demand 'more proof'. And here is the 'Proof'.' 'Despite strong opposition from respected historians and archaeologists, the BJP continues to promote the mythical Sarasvati Civilisation. They do so without credible evidence, while dismissing the rigorously proven antiquity of Tamil culture,' Mr. Stalin contended. He added: 'We fought for centuries to unearth our history. They fight every day to erase it. The world is watching. So is time.' Minister Thangam Thennarasu (holding the archaeology portfolio) in a social media post, too cited the newspaper report about the findings from the Keeladi site, which said that the radiocarbon dating traced the site's origin to 580 BCE (as published in the 2019 report). 'For those who point to insufficient evidence, it has been the history of the Tamils to prove them scientifically with evidence.' He recalled that the DMK government, which had been demonstrating the antiquity of the Tamil land using archaeological evidence backed by science, had increased the allocation to archaeology from ₹5 crore to ₹7 crore. Recently, the Archaeological Survey of India, under the Union Ministry of Culture, directed its archaeologist Amarnath Ramakrishna, who unearthed an ancient civilization in Keeladi, to resubmit his report about the excavation after making necessary corrections for taking further action. However, Mr. Ramakrishna stood by his report.

Left parties urge govt. to condemn Israel's air strike on Iran
Left parties on Friday (June 13, 2025) urged the Union government to condemn Israel's air strike on Iran and urge Tel Aviv to cease its military operations immediately, saying that it could likely spark a broader regional conflict and plunge West Asia into deeper instability. The Communist Party of India (Marxist) in a statement here, said, this act once again demonstrates that Israel is behaving like a 'rogue state' launching attacks on countries in West Asia at will and violating international laws and conventions. The party said the Israeli strikes have resulted in the deaths of senior nuclear scientists, army generals, and numerous civilians in Iran. 'The objective appears to be the assertion of Israel's hegemony over the entire West Asian region...' the CPI(M) alleged. While Israel itself possesses nuclear weapons it is seeking to prevent other countries in the region from developing nuclear technology, even for peaceful purposes. 'This attack, occurring amidst ongoing negotiations with Iran on nuclear issues, is likely to spark a broader regional conflict and plunge West Asia into deeper instability. For the past 20 months, Israel has been carrying out a genocidal war against Palestine. Now, with this attack on Iran, it is clear that Israel seeks to eliminate any potential challenge to its dominance in the region,' the party said. The Communist Party of India called it an act of 'unprovoked act of aggression'. 'The Indian government must break its silence and condemn this attack unequivocally, aligning with our long-standing foreign policy based on non-alignment, peace, and respect for sovereignty,' it said. The Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) Liberation also strongly condemned the Israeli aggression. The party said that India must 'break its silence and take all possible steps to stop Israel', adding, 'Silence and inaction will amount to complicity and India must not be bracketed with the U.S.-Israel axis in its escalating crimes against humanity.' The All India Forward Bloc said the attack threatens global peace and stability.
