Montreal police have reported two homicides within the span of several hours.
Police say a man in his 30s was shot about 12:45 a.m. in a small downtown park.

He was declared dead at the scene.
At about 5:20 a.m. police conducted a wellness check at a home in the east-end Anjou borough where they found a 60-year-old woman who had been allegedly killed.
No arrests have been made in either case.
The deaths are the 21st and 22nd reported homicides in 2025 on the territory covered by Montreal police.

Family searches for missing Edmonton teen Samuel Bird
Samuel Bird's family spent Saturday walking in the rain along the banks of the Edmonton River Valley, looking for the teen. Bird was last seen June 1. The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) did not respond to Global News' request for an update on the investigation Saturday. Alanna said not knowing is the hardest part. She's hoping her search will eventually answer what happened to her son. 'If we don't see him with our own eyes, we'll always have that little what if,' Alanna said. EPS is asking anyone with information to contact them or Crime Stoppers.

Authorities investigating death of Canadian woman at Belgian music fest
Belgian authorities are investigating the death of a Canadian woman who fell ill at Tomorrowland, one of the world's largest electronic music festivals, according to event organizers. The 35-year-old woman 'became unwell on the festival grounds' on Friday at the event's opening night in the town Boom, about 35 kilometres south of Antwerp, Tomorrowland spokeswoman Debby Wilmsen said in a statement sent to Global News. The Tomorowland festival is held annually in Boom. This year's event is expected to welcome about 400,000 people over the weekends of July 18-20 and July 25-27. But the site opened on time with an alternative stage still under construction. That stage opened to the public just two hours later, organizers said.

Community rallies to support son, family of Teulon murder victim
A 37-year-old man who was fatally shot in his Teulon home has been identified, as community members raise funds to support his family. Sean Lawson, 37, was found in his home by Stonewall RCMP on 7th Avenue Southeast in Teulon on July 13 with life-threatening injuries. He was transported to hospital and later pronounced dead. A donation fund has been created to support Lawson's 12-year-old son, according to a Friday Facebook post. The money raised will pay for counselling and other resources for the son and family members, along with contributing towards a post-secondary education fund. Richelle Rae-Anne, a friend of Lawson, said his death robbed people of their father, son and brother. 'It's heart-shattering that this senseless and horrific crime could happen to such an amazing human being,' she said in separate Facebook post. 'Sean was one of the best humans I've ever known.' Donavin Skogan, 24, of Traverse Bay has been charged with second-degree murder. fpcity@
