Two teenagers on a paddleboard have been rescued after getting into trouble off the Cornish coast, rescuers say.
Looe RNLI was alerted about the stranded teenagers off Downderry at 20:57 BST on Saturday after onlookers reported seeing them waving their paddles "in distress".
Once at the scene, Looe RNLI said it found two teenagers a "fair way out to sea and unable to return to shore in the fading light".
An RNLI spokesperson said the pair were taken back to the lifeboat station to warm up and await the arrival of their parents.

Prince William Will Be Joined by an Unlikely Guest for His Latest Royal Outing

Prince William will attend The Royal Cornwall Show on Friday, June 6, with his aunt, Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh The annual event, which dates back to 1793, showcases local food, drinks and livestock, and often features appearances from the royal family King Charles and Queen Camilla last visited the show in 2022, where the King was asked to present the Livestock Inter-Breed Championship TrophiesPrince William is pairing up with his aunt, Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh for his latest royal outing. William, 42, will be joined by Sophie, 60, when he travels to Wadebridge, Cornwall, on Friday, June 6, for The Royal Cornwall Show. Both he and Sophie are patrons of the Royal Cornwall Agricultural Association, whose annual event features livestock competitions, food and drinks. William's father King Charles recently attended the show with Queen Camilla in 2022, where Charles was honored for becoming Duke of Cornwall 70 years ago. While there, the King saw the cattle, sheep and goats on display, and was asked to present the Livestock Inter-Breed Championship Trophies. The show, which dates back to 1793, is a popular event in the region, pulling in about 120,000 visitors every year. When they attend the show, William and Sophie are expected to visit the Royal Cornwall Food and Farming Pavilion to sample food and drinks made across Cornwall, including Cornish cheeses, jams, and preserves, as well as gins and other spirits. William will then visit the Duchy of Cornwall hub, which will promote mental health charities including Pentreath Cornwall Rural Community Charity, Georgia's Voice, Kooth, Man Down, PAPRUS and Sunrise. While the Prince is at the Duchy of Cornwall hub, Sophie will visit LEAF (Linking Environment and Farming) and the Girl Guides, organizations where she serves as patron. She will also stop by the show's Cattle, Pig, Sheep and countryside area. Can't get enough of PEOPLE's Royals coverage? to get the latest updates on Kate Middleton, Meghan Markle and more! Sophie and the prince have teamed up in the past, appearing together for The Royal Foundation's screening of Rhino Man, a documentary about wildlife rangers, hosted by United for Wildlife at Battersea Power Station in June 2023. Kensington Palace said at the time that Sophie, who is invested in wildlife protection, was "delighted to join the Prince of Wales at the event this evening to show her support for United for Wildlife." The bond between the duo was evident in a sweet moment last year, when Prince Edward's wife placed her hand on William's back during Trooping the Colour in June 2024. Sophie's gesture came as the royal family walked off the balcony of Buckingham Palace and into the royal residence's Centre Room. Read the original article on People

Cash boost for South West hospitals

Hospitals in Devon and Cornwall have been given more than £22m for vital repairs, the Department of Health and Social Care has confirmed. It comes as part of the £750m announced for the NHS in England in the autumn budget. Devon's hospitals have been given more than £15m for improvements, while Cornish hospitals will benefit from more than £8m. Health Secretary Wes Streeting said the government was "on a mission" to rebuild the NHS through investment and modernisation. Among the hospitals receiving funding were three of the largest in both counties - the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital (RD&E) in Exeter, Derriford Hospital in Plymouth, and the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro. Derriford Hospital has been given £1,815,000 for improvements to ventilation equipment in the neonatal unit. Ashley Dalton MP, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Public Health and Prevention, during a visit to Derriford Hospital, said the new system would improve environmental conditions for babies receiving specialist care. Elsewhere in Devon, RD&E and North Devon District Hospital, managed by the Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, have been jointly allocated £5,412,000 for improvements to ventilation systems, and fire safety works. Various healthcare units, managed by the Devon Partnership NHS Trust, have been given £300,000 for improvements to energy systems. In Cornwall, the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro has been given £4,379,000 for improvements to energy, electrical, and water systems. The Department for Health and Social Care also announced £3.9m for Bodmin Hospital, to improve fire safety. The Department of Health and Social Care said fixing the "backlog of maintenance" at NHS hospitals would help to prevent cancellations. It said services were disrupted more than 4,000 times across England in 2023 and 2024 due to issues with poor quality buildings. Mr Streeting said: "A decade and a half of underinvestment left hospitals crumbling, with burst pipes flooding emergency departments, faulty electrical systems shutting down operating theatres, and mothers giving birth in outdated facilities that lack basic dignity." He said patients and staff deserved to be in buildings which were "safe, comfortable, and fit for purpose." Follow BBC Cornwall on X, Facebook and Instagram. A missing girl's body was found in the River Thames in England on Saturday, May 31, Kent Police said The previous day a young boy was rescued from the water and hospitalized after the two entered the river together "At the heart of this is a family and community in grief," local politician Lauren Sullivan wrote on social mediaA missing girl's body has been found in the River Thames in England after she entered the water with a young boy the day prior. At around 1:46 p.m. local time on Friday, May 30, Kent Police was alerted by the Port of London Authority that there were concerns about the welfare of two children who had entered the river via Royal Pier Road, Kent Police shared in a news release. The boy, who remains in the hospital, was retrieved from the water after patrols, H.M. Coastguard, the RNLI (Royal National Lifeboat Institution) and South East Coast Ambulance Service rushed to the scene. In the evening, the search for the missing girl was suspended, but Kent Police's Marine Unit and H.M. Coastguard continued on Saturday. They recovered her body from the river near Gravesend at around 11:40 a.m. that day with assistance from the RNLI. The child's 'death is not being treated as suspicious at this stage and a report will be prepared for the coroner,' Kent Police said. She was formally identified by her next of kin. It's believed the girl was aged 9, while the boy is 7, local media outlet Kent Online reported. The outlet added that the pair are thought to be cousins and they were reportedly playing near the water when the girl slipped and got into difficulty. A spokesperson for the nearby Gravesend Rowing Club said a man used a life ring to swim out and retrieve the boy, but was unable to help the girl as he lost sight of her, per Kent Online. The boy is now at a local hospital in a 'stable condition," according to Kent Police's news release. Gravesham MP Lauren Sullivan shared her 'deepest condolences' on the Facebook following the tragic incident. 'I am deeply saddened to hear that a body has been recovered in the search for the girl who went missing in the River Thames in Gravesend yesterday,' she wrote. 'I would like to thank emergency services, including the coastguard, Kent Police, the RNLI, and PLA many others for their efforts in the search."
