L.A. Rams agree to $33M extension with running back Kyren Williams
Aug. 5 (UPI) -- The Los Angeles Rams agreed to a three-year, $33 million contract extension with Pro Bowl running back Kyren Williams, agent Drew Rosenhaus confirmed Tuesday. The deal includes $23 million guaranteed.
Williams, 24, totaled 316 carries for 1,299 yards and 14 scores over 16 starts last season. He also caught a career-high 34 passes for 182 yards and two scores.
The fourth-year running back entered the league as a fifth-round pick by the Rams in the 2022 NFL Draft. He totaled 1,350 yards from scrimmage and 15 scores last season. Williams led the NFL with 95.3 rushing yards per game over 12 appearances in 2023, when he earned a Pro Bowl selection.
The Rams will host the Dallas Cowboys in their preseason opener at 4 p.m. EDT Saturday in Inglewood, Calif. They will take on the Los Angeles Chargers and Cleveland Browns in their final two preseason games.
The Rams will host the Houston Texans in their regular season opener Sept. 7 at SoFi Stadium.

Panthers star Jaycee Horn to miss preseason game after getting in car accident en route to stadium
Carolina Panthers cornerback Jaycee Horn was involved in a car accident on his way to the team's stadium on Wednesday and walked away with stiches, head coach Dave Canales confirmed. Horn, 25, was alone in his car when the incident occurred at an intersection just outside the stadium, a team spokesperson said. No one involved in the accident was transported by emergency medical personnel, according to the team rep. Horn was evaluated by team medical personnel. Panthers coach Dave Canales said that Horn got a few stitches in his thumb area. "I'm glad that Jaycee was OK," Canales said. "He did have to have a few stitches in his left thumb-area. So they got that all cleaned up and sutured up. . . . It doesn't seem like anything else happened, but you know we're just gonna kind of evaluate him each day." Horn did not participate in the team's joint practice with the Cleveland Browns on Wednesday. Horn will also not play the Panthers' preseason game versus the Browns on Friday. Canales hopes Horn will be able to play in the team's second preseason game against the Houston Texans on Aug. 16. "Hopefully we can get him turned around so we can take advantage of an opportunity in Houston for that game, which was kind of the plan all along," Canales said. Fox News Digital reached out to Horn's agent for comment but did not immediately get a response. Horn, who made the Pro Bowl last season, is one of the best players on the team. Since the team selected him with the No. 8 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft out of South Carolina, he has been an impact player. Horn has missed time with injuries in his career as he has only played in 37 of a possible 68 regular-season games in his four-year career. However, despite the injury woes, the team signed Horn to a four-year, $100 million contract in March. At the time, his contract extension made him the highest-paid cornerback in the NFL.

Cowboys' Jerry Jones not confident Micah Parsons will play Week 1 after trade request
Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones said he does not know if star pass rusher Micah Parsons will play in Week 1. The Cowboys begin their season Sept. 4 against the division rival and defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles. This week, Jones was asked if he was confident Parsons would be a part of that lineup. "No, absolutely not," Jones told reporters after the team's joint practice with the Los Angeles Rams Tuesday. "A big part of that is his decision. How would I know that? No, but I'm urgent." Jones said that he has not spoken to Parsons since the star made a trade request, but Jones said that stays "urgent." Jones has remained steadfast in his praise of Parsons after his trade request. "I think the world of Micah," Jones said. "Like I've said, I've had social time with Micah, which isn't always the case, but I have. He's one of the brightest people I've ever been around, and he's very, very talented. Now, how we ultimately (mix) him in with our future is a challenge, and I'm built for it, he's built for it." Parsons has still attended practice and attended meetings while the contract talks continue to stall. The four-time Pro Bowler announced his trade request on social media Friday, and Parsons cited "radio silence" from the Cowboys regarding a contract extension in both this and last offseason. In Parsons' post to social media, he said he did everything he could to show he wanted to stay with the Cowboys. "Yes I wanted to be here. I did everything I could to show that I wanted to be a Cowboy and wear the star on my helmet. I wanted to play in front of the best fans in sports and make this Americas [sic] team once again. The team my pops and I grew up cheering for way up in Harrisburg, PA. Unfortunately, I no longer want to be here," Parsons wrote in his post. "I no longer want to be held to close door negotiations without my agent present. I no longer want shots taken at me for getting injured while laying it on the line for the organization, our fans and my teammates. I no longer want narratives created and spread to the media about me. I had purposely stayed quiet in hopes of getting something done." If Parsons does not play Week 1, it would be a major blow to the team's defense. He has been one of the premier passrushers since being selected 12th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft out of Penn State. Parsons has made the Pro Bowl in all four seasons of his career. In 63 career games, Parsons has 52½ sacks with 172 solo tackles and nine forced fumbles. Last season, Parsons had 12 sacks in 13 games.

Titans hit the road for joint practices and preseason games against Bucs and Falcons
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — The Tennessee Titans practiced in Music City on Wednesday morning and then headed out for their longest preseason road trip since the franchise left Texas in 1997. Second-year coach Brian Callahan scheduled not one, but two sets of joint practices around back-to-back road games starting Thursday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He sees nine nights away from Nashville as a way to create more of an old training camp vibe for a young team. 'That's sort of the intent of the whole trip,' Callahan said. 'Spend some time, get a chance to grow together, and then get to go play against some other teams.' Callahan also wants to hear the reviews from the Buccaneers, then the Atlanta Falcons on what they think of how the Titans compete. He sees this as a chance for a starting point of what the Titans can be this year. 'And get a change to do some things as a team on the road, some events together, things like that,' Callahan said. 'It's something I'm really looking forward to. Can't wait.' The Titans, who went 3-14 in Callahan's debut season, will be away from Nashville for nine straight nights. They won't practice again in Nashville until Aug. 19 before wrapping up the preseason by hosting Minnesota on Aug. 22. After opening this preseason Saturday night against Tampa Bay, the Titans go to Atlanta for two joint practices and a game Aug. 15. Left tackle Dan Moore has had only one joint practice with Pittsburgh, and that was last year. This will be a bit of a new experience, though Moore is familiar to going away to camp with the Steelers a regular at Latrobe, Pennsylvania. 'Obviously, we're on a business trip, but we'll have some free time, some downtime," Moore said. "We'll be in the hotel. Guys can hang out, do stuff together and go places, go eat, whatever. And I think that's a good time for us to just bond as team and build chemistry.' Bonding can only help a franchise that has added 37 free agents, nine drafted rookies and five more players added off waivers through Sunday — a total of 51 players in training camp. Safety Quandre Diggs isn't new after playing eight games for Tennessee last season before going on injured reserve. He signed Tuesday, and the Titans are easing him back into the mix. He recognizes a lot of faces on the roster, including his cousin, rookie quarterback Cam Ward. 'It's different when you walk in the locker room and you see your family, like real family," the three-time Pro Bowl safety said of Ward. "And so it was cool.' Titans defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson has been trying to throw every look possible at Ward to help prep the No. 1 draft pick overall for the season opener Sept. 7 at Denver. Now the Titans will get a glimpse of how other NFL defenses might challenge the rookie. 'He's a grown man to me,' wide receiver Calvin Ridley said of Ward. 'He's a confident guy, he's a guy that wants to be good.' ___
