PAS acknowledges Muhyiddin's meeting with opposition parties, cites scheduling conflicts for absence
PAS deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man stated that Muhyiddin was expected to brief Perikatan on the developments that transpired during the meeting on Friday (July 18).
Although a main component of Perikatan, PAS was absent from the meeting, raising questions as to whether the party leaders were invited.
"There is no difference in opinion between us and Bersatu. Muhyiddin is the Perikatan chairman, and he will present what has transpired during the meeting with the non-government bloc for all of us in Perikatan to decide on, as he himself had stated. Although the meeting with the non-government was not discussed earlier in the Perikatan meeting, we know that this will be raised in the next meeting," said Tuan Ibrahim.
PAS vice president Datuk Idris Ahmad stated that PAS leaders could not attend the non-government meeting as PAS President Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang and other leaders were still in Kedah on Friday.
"We were all still in Kedah then, after the 'Himpunan Mandat Negarawan' rally on Thursday night," said Idris.
On Saturday (July 19), Muhyiddin said that the purpose of the meeting with the 11 parties was to gather their views on the proposal to establish a cross-party coalition that will adopt a unified stance on matters affecting the interests of the people and the nation.
Among those present were the Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, Gerakan president Datuk Dr Dominic Lau, president of the Makkal Indian People Party (MIPP) Punithan Paramsiven; Parti Pejuang Tanah Air (Pejuang) president Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir and Parti Bumiputera Perkasa Malaysia (Putra) president Datuk Ibrahim Ali.
Others included the deputy chairman of Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM), S Arutchelvan, Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) acting president Amira Aisya Abd Aziz, Youth leader of the Malaysian People's Progressive Party (PPP), Sathiah Sudakaran, Barisan Jemaah Islamiah Se-Malaysia (Berjasa) president Zamani Ibrahim; United Malaysian People's Rights (Urimai) president Dr P Ramasamy and Malaysian Advancement Party (MAP) president P. Waytha Moorthy.

Avoid ‘Turun Anwar' rally, civil servants told
The first 'Turun Anwar' rally held in Shah Alam on July 6 attracted about 300 participants, but the organisers say they expect as many as 300,000 to attend Saturday's event. PETALING JAYA : Civil servants have been told to avoid the 'Turun Anwar' rally in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday. Chief secretary to the government Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar said it was inappropriate for civil servants to take part in the rally 'because the action is not in accordance with the principle of loyalty to king and country as espoused by the Rukun Negara'. 'They are civil servants, how can they (be part of the rally?) Every day, every week, we recite the pledge (of) loyalty to king and country,' Bernama quoted him as telling reporters after launching a sports carnival in Putrajaya today. Perikatan Nasional has planned the rally at Dataran Merdeka to push for Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's resignation. The organisers expect up to 300,000 participants, although a similar protest in Shah Alam earlier this month drew just over 300. Police were reported as saying, however, that they expect between 10,000 and 15,000 people to join the rally. Acting Kuala Lumpur police chief Usuf Jan Mohamad said more than 2,000 officers and personnel will be deployed to facilitate the rally and ensure the safety of all involved.

Kelantan cleric entitled to his opinion, says Tuan Ibrahim

KLANG : PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man has downplayed a prominent religious scholar's call for Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's administration to remain until the end of its term, describing it as a personal opinion. Tuan Ibrahim said Sheikh Wazir Che Awang Al-Makki Hafizahullah, who is the deputy chairman of Jabhah Pondok Kelantan, was entitled to express his views like anyone else. 'That is his personal opinion. I believe if there's a new prime minister, it might improve the economy. 'We have our own experts who can offer better perspectives,' he told a press conference after officiating the Selangor PAS Youth general assembly at Dewan Mawar Biru Duo in Kapar here today. Earlier, it was reported that Sheikh Wazir had expressed hope the unity government under Anwar would remain until the end of its term. He said a frequent change of government was 'not in line with Islamic values' and could negatively affect the advancement of Islam and the economy. He was believed to be responding to ongoing efforts by certain quarters, particularly the opposition, to topple the government with a major protest rally planned next week. Yesterday, Anwar challenged his critics to table a vote of no-confidence in the Dewan Rakyat if they wished to take over Putrajaya. He called on those who wanted to topple the government to follow the proper process. If they did not have the support in the Dewan Rakyat, he said they must wait for the next general election instead of resorting to street demonstrations or inciting the public.
