2025 NFL draft: Titans trade back, land elite DL in latest CBS Sports mock
How the Titans decide to go about this process is still a bit of a mystery. New general manager Mike Borgonzi will bring a different approach to the organization as he looks to build a consistent winner. We will get a lot of answers in the coming months leading up to the draft where Tennessee holds the first pick.
The dead time between the Super Bowl and the scouting combine is also prime time for analysts to put out their latest mock drafts. Some even like to project hypothetical trades.
Chris Trapasso of CBS Sports did just that in his latest mock, with the Titans trading out of the top spot in a deal with the Las Vegas Raiders.
In the trade, the Raiders would receive the No. 1 overall pick and a 2025 fifth-rounder (No. 168 overall). The Titans would receive the No. 6 overall, a 2025 second-rounder (No. 37 overall), and a 2025 third-rounder (No. 68), as well as a 2026 first-rounder and a 2026 fourth-round pick.
Of course, this would take the Titans out of the running for the four prospects that have been somewhat linked to the organization since the offseason began, and in this case, go in a totally different direction.
Tennessee Titans – Round 1, Pick 6: DL Mason Graham – Michigan
The new Titans GM Mike Borgonzi had a front-row seat to the havoc that Chris Jones wreaked on a routine basis in Kansas City. He drafts a running mate for Jeffery Simmons up front.
The idea of a trade is not outside the realm of possibility. The Titans' front office has quietly mentioned they are open for business, but this direction may not be the way.
It's an interesting take and the compensation works, but the player selected probably won't resonate with fans. Graham is a good player and arguably the best defensive tackle in this class, but is that their biggest need at that spot with top offensive tackle Will Campbell on the board?
Tennessee got a boost in 2024 with T'Vondre Sweat and he still has room to grow next to Simmons and will only get better while the Titans' offensive line was atrocious. If the Titans were to build in the trenches through the draft, Campbell would be the way to go. Even if they don't take an offensive tackle, wide receiver and edge are bigger needs and there are players available that would meet both value and need.
The good thing is that this is merely an exercise and there is a long way to go before the 2025 NFL draft.

Rookie Titans QB Cam Ward addresses practice scuffle with Pro Bowl defender Jeffery Simmons: 'It was fun'
Cam Ward and Jefferey Simmons got into it at Tennessee Titans practice on Monday. On Wednesday, Ward addressed the scuffle with reporters. To the Titans quarterback, it was no big deal. In fact, Ward said, it was fun. Here's what he had to say on Wednesday when asked if he'd learned anything from the scuffle: "Did I learn anything from it? Jeff's strong as s***," Ward quipped. Ward went on to say that the scuffle was good for the team and indicated that there's no ill will between him and Simmons. "It was fun. At the same time, I think it was what we needed, though," Ward continued. "We love competing, especially with me and Jeff. I'm excited to have that man as my teammate. "I can't wait to see what he do on Sundays. I already know what he's about. But I can see the real thing coming soon." [Join or create a Yahoo Fantasy Football league for the 2025 NFL season] Simmons didn't address the dustup with media. But unless he's got a different version than Ward, things appear to be just fine between Tennessee's No. 1 pick rookie quarterback and its three-time Pro Bowl defensive captain. What happened There's no published video of the scuffle. But multiple reporters were on the scene and provided an account of the dustup that took place during a red-zone drill. According to A to Z Sports' Easton Freeze, Ward threw a touchdown pass to wide receiver Calvin Ridley. After the pass, Ward shoved Simmons in the back. Ward then hit him with his signature "Zombieland" celebration that he made famous as a Heisman Trophy finalist at Miami. Per ESPN, Simmons responded with a two-hand shove to Ward's facemask, prompting Ward's offensive teammates to come to his defense. Simmons lost his helmet during the fracas and left the field when it was subdued. He did not return to the drill, which was over after two more plays, per the report. Cornerback Jarvis Brownlee was on the field and offered his perspective of the scuffle on Monday. Like Ward, Brownlee chalked the incident up as a positive while praising Ward's and Simmons' competitive fire. "I feel like it's a great thing," Brownlee said. "When you've got great teams, brothers fight. At the end of the day, as long as we all have got each other's back, we all connected. "We all got that bond. We all got that same connection where we're gonna fight for one another, that's the most important thing at the end of the day." Ward and Simmons, meanwhile, already have an established off-field relationship. Simmons has taken Ward fishing and posted a photo of the two on a boat in July. So all does appear to be fine among Tennessee's offensive and defensive leaders. The next step will be translating their practice intensity to a tough Week 1 matchup on the road against the Denver Broncos on Sept. 7.

Jets bolster defensive line with trade for Browns' Jowon Briggs
FILE - Jowon Briggs answers a question during a Cleveland Browns NFL football rookie minicamp, on May 10, 2024, in Berea, Ohio. Sue Ogrocki/AP FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — The New York Jets acquired defensive tackle Jowon Briggs from the Cleveland Browns in a trade Wednesday that also included draft picks. The Browns also sent a seventh-round pick in next year's NFL draft to New York for a sixth-rounder next year. Briggs had 13 tackles with two quarterback hits in six games for Cleveland last season after being a seventh-round selection. The 6-foot-1, 313-pound D-lineman had 12 career sacks and 170 tackles during a college career that began at Virginia (2019-20) and finished with three years at Cincinnati (2021-23). Advertisement Article continues below this ad Briggs adds depth to a defensive line in New York that's led by three-time Pro Bowl pick Quinnen Williams and includes Micheal Clemons, Jay Tufele, Will McDonald and Rashad Weaver. Defensive tackle Byron Cowart has missed time in training camp with an ankle injury, so the addition of Briggs could help fill that void for the Jets if Cowart is sidelined for an extended time. ___
