I FEEL like I'm in a quaint Italian town as I sit listening to live guitar while enjoying a glass of wine in a beautiful ivy-walled courtyard.
Yet I'm nowhere near Italy. I'm in the heart of Kent, visiting an historic health spa during its landmark 100th anniversary year.

Champneys Eastwell Manor is part of the heritage health spa's empire, founded in 1925 by wellness guru Stanley Lief, who introduced us to the powers of holistic health, nutrition and rest and relaxation.
From its quirky beginnings as the nation's first 'health farm', pioneering hydrotherapy in the '50s, to introducing Ayurvedic therapies in the '70s, and launching Britain's first wellness bootcamps in the '90s, the brand has always been ahead of the curve in wellness trends.
This year, it is marking the milestone with a year-long 100 Years Young campaign.
Think exclusive treatments and great products you won't find elsewhere.
Eastwell Manor, near Ashford, has undergone extensive renovations, including a total spa refresh, and I marvel at the view via a new summer terrace, while tucking into local Gusbourne Vineyard rosé.
The wine is the only UK entry to make the top 50 in the 2025 World's Best Vineyards Awards.
A variety of amazing small plates, including a delicious whipped feta and flatbreads, are the perfect accompaniment.
Of course, you could go bigger, with pizzas, burgers and sandwiches on offer (the sea pizza being a feast of garlic chili prawns, salmon and pickles).
Relaxing among the backdrop of an 18th century manor house, there are frankly few better ways to spend an evening.
The next day I was transported from Italy to France, with a beautifully laid out picnic on the manor grounds.
Go on a virtual tour of the Champneys hotel - the perfect Mother's Day retreat
Hopping into one of the hotel Range Rovers, I am assured by the driver that the walk would be far too difficult to do myself.
Taking an entire three minutes, I feel slightly put out until I spot the size of the hamper being hauled from the boot with a bucket of champagne. Perhaps my driver was right after all.
My only company is an errant bee as he leaves me to enjoy a feast of fresh pastries and sandwiches.
With more than enough to feed two people, I should have asked him to join me.
Back at the spa, there are more centenary celebrations to delight, including two exclusive treatments.
My Champneys 100 Years Facial (£105) begins with a meditation, followed by a triple cleanse, exfoliation and anti-ageing cryotherapy globes.
Back at the spa, there's more centenary celebrations to delight, including two exclusive treatments.
For more ingulgence, you could opt for The 100 Years Face & Body Reset (£150) with a massage, wood therapy, and lemon tea to finish.
Along with the standard indoor swimming pool, with sauna, steam rooms and hot tub, there's a newly revamped outdoor pool, with cream-covered plush sunloungers and beautiful sunset views.
Tucked next door are the Mews Cottages, with my room hidden behind a baby pink door.
Inside, a comfy double bed and lounge look out over lush grounds, and I make the most of the roll-top bath and Elemis toiletries.
Complete with my leftover hamper strawberries.
Not bad for a spa that's been doing this for 100 years.
They've clearly learned a thing or two about la dolce vita.

Ultimate guide to finding the perfect pair of jeans whatever your age – fashion editors from their 20s to 50s share all
What's the best style millennials can swap out their skinnies for? GOOD JEANS Ultimate guide to finding the perfect pair of jeans whatever your age – fashion editors from their 20s to 50s share all Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) FINDING the perfect pair of jeans is like finding the ideal partner. In your twenties you play the denim field, having low-rise flings, trying out wide-leg wonders and flirting with a flare. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 5 We reveal the most flattering style of jeans for every decade But as the years roll on and you look to settle down, you want comfort, you want reliability, you want something that just 'gets' you. What worked during wild nights out might not cut it for the school run or daily commute. And with fashion moving faster than your relationships, keeping up with the right fit is a full-time job. But once you find The One, you'll never look back. Here, Clemmie Fieldsend reveal the most flattering style of jeans for every decade, with the help of four volunteers from Fabulous HQ. 20s - BAGGY Fashion assistant Emily Regan 5 Emily wears the mid-rise ultrasoft baggy jeans, £55, Gap Credit: Supplied I'M 25 and, as my more experienced colleagues often tell me, now is the perfect time to experiment with different styles. But I've already found the jeans for me. I would never dream of wearing a pair of skinnies as I feel like it would instantly age me. It's a millennial trend and I'm firmly in Gen Z territory. I'm a midsize 12 and I've found the perfect pair of jeans that suit all body shapes - they're so stretchy and affordable I can't imagine wearing a pair of bootcut jeans either. That's what I imagine women in their 50s and 60s wear, not that there's anything wrong with that look. For me and many women my age, it's go big or go home. I like oversized jeans – a low to mid-rise pair in a baggy shape that are comfortable but look on-trend, too. This style works well with a tucked T-shirt but it also flatters the waist if you want to show it off with a crop top because the waistband is loose so there's no overhang. I like my jeans to pool around my feet so I can go for a laid-back look with trainers, or dress them up with a low heel without them looking too short. I'm 5ft so the petite section is my go to. Brands such as Gap mean you can order your real leg and waist length, like with designer denim, which is perfect for petites. These mid-rise jeans are the perfect pair for me. They are so soft they feel like joggers. They hang well on my hips and don't have a crotch that goes up to underneath my bust, which is usually what happens when you're petite. CLEMMIE SAYS: Baggy jeans are not only comfortable but, despite being ill-fitting, create a flattering silhouette for women in their 20s who are still in the stage of their life where they are trying to figure out their identity and what works for them. The key is balance, balancing the loose fit by tucking in a top with a loose shape that mirrors the bottom nips in at the waist and lengthens legs too. 30s - STRAIGHT Video producer, Anya Browne 5 Anya in the Sienna straight-leg jeans, £35, Marks & Spencer Credit: Supplied WIDE-LEG baggy jeans like Emily's look great on her, but they just wouldn't work for me now I'm in my 30s and a mum to 22-month-old Ted. I need a jean that holds in my stomach – secure enough to resemble my pre-baby body – so definitely not a low-rise pair. But my jeans also need enough stretch for constantly bending over to pick up my little one. I need clothes that can move with the demands of my lifestyle. My jeans need to survive everything from food to mud being thrown at them and they need to be durable for when I crawl around on my hands and knees pretending to be a lion. But I'm not ready to graduate from skinny to mom jeans just yet. When I slip on a pair of skinnies, they remind me of my youth and the days when stumbling out of bars rather than stumbling over toys was a regular occurrence. I love being a mum but skinny jeans make me feel like me again. Plus, my legs have always been the part of my body that I like the most and I don't want to disguise them in baggy jeans. I am aware that the spray-on skinny jeans of yesteryear are a big millennial red flag, though, and, according to TikTok, can be ageing, so I prefer a straight leg. This pair ticks tick every box. CLEMMIE SAYS: Straight leg jeans satisfy the millennial itch of those dying to put on skinny jeans and reclaim their youth but will work with your body's ever changing demands. With their streamlines silhouette but where skinny hug areas of your body, therefore enhancing them and meaning they don't need hiking up every five minutes, straights cut from the hip down elongate your legs and create a slimming effect for the whole body. 40s - BARREL Former fashion editor, Antonia Kraskowski 5 Antonia in barrel jeans, £45, Next Credit: Supplied HAVING worked in fashion for decades, it's deeply rooted in me to keep up with the jeans trends. From skinny jeans to flares, I've done them all. But now, in my 40s, I've found a style that is hard to beat. Enter the barrel. For the last few seasons, the barrel, horseshoe, carrot, whatever you prefer to call the arched leg shape, has become the It style. The high waist accentuates the waistline. The curved silhouette is wider at the hips and tapers at the ankle so there's plenty of room for any hormonal bloating. They can be dressed up or down, too. And the best bit? They're comfortable. At 5ft 3in mine are short – I don't want to trip up when chasing my four-year-old son Mylo around. CLEMMIE SAYS: : For women on the go in their 40s but who are still hot on the trend, barrels with their curved, tapered cut are perfect. They gently skim the body in all the right places. Relaxed through the hips but still nipping in at the waist, they strike that sweet spot between laid-back and flattering. Plus it means you can, unfortunately, pick up after the kids. 50s - TAILORED Fashion director, Tracey Lea Sayer 5 Tracey in straight jeans, £34.90, Uniqlo Credit: Supplied I'M all about hardworking wardrobe heroes that earn their keep – pieces that make the morning outfit rush a no-brainer. A cracking white shirt, a never-dates blazer and, of course, a pair of jeans that look good with everything. Now I'm in my 50s, when it comes to denim, it's got to be indigo. There's something about that deep, rich hue that instantly polishes up your whole vibe. I'm a high-rise girl through and through. I want jeans that give me a waist, skim over the hips and give the illusion of legs for days. But not skin-tight. Comfort is non-negotiable. That's why this pair is a total wardrobe win. Chic and comfy, they're real everyday heroes – at a price you can't fault. CLEMMIE SAYS: A smart pair of indigo tailored jeans says 'I mean business', perfect for women in their 50s who are often reclaiming their style and social life after years juggling work and raising a family. A confidence booster, tailored jeans work with your shape, skimming the silhouette and offering support around the middle.

The 4 small odd jobs you should do to cut the cost of your energy bills in winter
It might be time to do some jobs before you think BILL BUSTERS The 4 small odd jobs you should do to cut the cost of your energy bills in winter Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) IN winter, finding ways to keep a house warm cheaply can often feel like an impossible uphill battle. But while the sun may make you forget that British winters can be miserable, the cold chill will come around and bite you where it hurts - your pocket. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 5 Don't be cold this winter with these money saving tips So instead of putting it out of your mind, there are four easy odd jobs you can do now that will save you time and money when the cold nights start to draw in. 1. Swap out your curtains It is often forgotten, but this is a simple way to keep a home warm in winter. Swapping your curtains follows the same principle as changing your clothes - the thicker the curtain, the warmer it will be. It is a bit like a jumper! Opting for heavier fabrics as curtains in areas such as the living room and bedroom is ideal for making a space warmer. And hey! Who doesn't like an interior design refresh every now and then? 5 Thick curtains is like wearing a jumper and can save so much money Credit: Getty Another simple trick linked to having thicker curtains is also using curtain reflectors. Curtain reflectors work by reflecting your indoor heat into the room, helping to keep warm air inside, rather than letting it be lost through the window. To be doubly sure, window insulation can provide a further layer of protection. Such as 3M Indoor Window Insulation available at Amazon, can be easily applied to windows, and then this trio combo will block drafts and save energy! 2. Window sealing While on the topic of windows, one area often forgotten by those wanting to keep the cold out is that windows need resealing. Replace old caulking and add weatherstripping to keep the draught out and your home warmer. 5 This 10 minute job can save time and effort Credit: Getty It is a simple 10 minute job which can be done after a long day, and save you a lot of cash. To do so, first, remove any old caulk from the window frame. Next, use a caulk gun to slowly run a bead of caulk down the seam of the window. Smooth the caulk with your finger to finish. It's that simple. 3. Draft Stopper The key to keeping warm in winter is stopping any unnecessary cold from blowing into your home. Not to pass any household blame, but doors can be one of the main culprits of letting draught in. Cold air can easily find a way into your home via doorways, but a draught stopper can help. 5 Draft stoppers can be personal to you and add to your interior Draft stoppers are often fabric-covered and filled with sand or beads, and can be laid against doors on the floor to protect any seeping gaps. If you are feeling particularly cost-effective, you can even make your own by simply cutting a length of fabric to fit your doorway, sewing it into a long tube, then filling it with your choice of stuffing before sewing it shut. 4. Bleed Radiators In a heatwave, the last thing you'll be thinking about is your radiators, but thinking about improving their efficiency now, can save a lot of time and money down the line. It is advisable to bleed your radiators in the summer, even if you're not actively using your heating system. By bleeding radiators, you remove trapped air that can hinder their performance. 5 Forget the heatwave its time to bleed your radiators Credit: Getty This can lead to cold spots and reduced efficiency, but after being bled they can operate at their peak performance. Doing so in summer means that you ensure they are ready to operate at peak performance when the colder weather arrives. What's more if you have furniture rested against your radiators, it is advisable to move it away from them, in order to ensure maximum output. How much could you save? According to the Energy Saving Trust, the price varies on how much draught-proofing you do. Fixing draughts around windows, floors and doors could save you around £85 a year in the UK, whereas blocking up a chimney could save you around £60. When there are no draughts, it means you can lower your thermostat, saving even more on your energy bills, and turning down your thermostat from 22˚C to 21˚C can save you £90 a year!
