Shifnal Pride in St Andrew's Church to return for second year

BBC News11-05-2025

A Pride celebration held inside a Shropshire church will return in June after last year's event was a huge success.Shifnal Pride's inaugural event saw more than 100 people attend a special service in St Andrew's Church, which has since been streamed more than 8,000 times. The event will return again on 1 June at 18:00 BST."It was quite new to us, we weren't sure how it was going to go... but it was so successful it's back again," said organiser Ian Handley.
He told the BBC that the team of organisers wanted to connect people from the LGBT community and people of faith."We felt this huge need to pull these communities together," he said."We're hoping to tie in some of the things from last year to try and link it all nicely together."
The event is shaped by feedback from the community."With it being slightly different in a church, we had things to shape from from the Church of England," said Mr Handley."That really helped us kind of weave into our service things that were important to both communities."We're trying to keep a mix of contemporary and traditional songs and hymns… to make sure that we tick all boxes for all people of all faiths."
Like last year, the town's youth theatre group - CentreStage - will perform music at the service. In attendance will be the Lord Lieutenant and Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Shropshire, as well as some of the town's councillors."Come as you like, we want people to feel comfortable as possible," added Mr Handley.

Love Island viewers beg producers to add subtitles as they struggle to understand ‘mumbling' boy

LOVE Island viewers have called for subtitles to be added to the show as they struggle to understand one of the islanders. Ben - a private hire taxi driver and model from Gloucester - has raised eyebrows for mumbling his way through various conversations. 2 2 One person moaned: 'I need subtitles to understand Ben he's so mumbly.' A second said: 'Can we have subtitles for Ben while he decides on what accent he will be using.' While a third added that it wasn't just Ben they couldn't hear, writing: 'Why do so many men mumble nowadays? You're not emasculating yourself by opening your mouth more when you speak.' Another said: 'Lived in England my whole life and I don't understand some of these accents. Where's the subtitles.' In tense scenes on tonight's Ben calls it quits with Toni after admitting she gave him the 'ick' after her reaction to Sophie Lee being sent home. It quickly turns sour and he tells her: 'I don't feel like me and you have got that spark if I am being honest.' Looking taken aback she replies 'okay' as he continues: 'That is just me being honest but I know when I have got it with someone. That I feel it straight away. But yeah I don't feel like you and me have got it.' Toni tells him: 'I mean I don't think that technique is going to work for you here.' He asks what she means and she replies: 'Right away off the bat.' Smirking, he responds: 'You'd be surprised. I feel like sparks have already been made.' A very unhappy Toni hits back: 'Good luck pal.'

Where to celebrate NYC Pride 2025 at Moxy Hotels across the city

Moxy Hotels is once again going all in on Pride, with a packed schedule of events this June across all five of its NYC properties. Whether you're looking for rooftop drag shows, burlesque bingo or a vodka soda that literally says Gay Water, this year's programming is loud, proud and refreshingly well thought-out. The headline event is 'Pride for the People,' a post-parade block party hosted by RuPaul's Drag Race alum, Xunami Muse. Taking place at Moxy Chelsea on June 29, the party includes DJ sets, live performances, on-site makeup from Stencil1 and a signature cocktail called Pride Punch. Tickets are $10, with all proceeds benefiting The Stonewall Inn Gives Back Initiative (SIGBI). That partnership with SIGBI goes beyond the party. All five NYC Moxy locations— Chelsea, Times Square, East Village, Lower East Side and Williamsburg —have officially been certified as Safe Spaces through the initiative. "As a proud member of the LGBTQ+ community, I'm thrilled that at Moxy, Pride is more than a month—it's a mindset," Lauren Levin, chief marketing officer at Moxy Hotels / Lightstone, said in a statement. "We're the only hotel brand in NYC to partner with The Stonewall Inn Gives Back Initiative, certifying each of our hotels as a designated safe space and training our staff to ensure every guest feels truly welcome." Other standout Pride events include Burlesque Bingo at Moxy East Village on June 23, hosted by The Nuyorican Bombshell and her crew of high-glam performers, plus a free round of Drag Bingo with Sparkle Monster at Moxy Chelsea on June 9. There's also a Pride Salsa class on June 19 at Moxy Chelsea for anyone looking to learn new moves—or show off old ones—in a crowd that knows how to celebrate identity with rhythm. Over in Brooklyn, Strut NYC takes over the rooftop at Moxy Williamsburg on June 26. The party promises sunset views, cocktails and a stacked lineup of performers including Julie J, Markus Kelle and Coach Chris. It's co-presented by Helium Mobile and Sun Cruiser, two brands leaning hard into the queer nightlife space this year. For those who prefer their Pride a little quieter (but still Instagrammable), the lobby of Moxy Chelsea is getting its annual Pride makeover courtesy of Starbright Floral Design. The show-stopping installation, led by artist Nikki Abis, transforms the space into a high-color, high-drama tribute to self-expression and visibility. Also worth noting, the "Moxy's Got Pride" hotel package includes two tickets to NYC's official Pride walking tour, two cans of Gay Water and a rainbow tie-dye bandana. A portion of proceeds go to SIGBI because even mini-fridges should be part of the movement. The full schedule spans June, and most events are either free or low-cost. And while the hotel group is clearly not shy about aligning itself with Pride, the effort feels like more than a marketing play—especially when paired with community partnerships, staff training and events that give back. It's Pride with purpose, and yes, plenty of glitter.

Cruz Beckham post heartbreaking family snap after brother Brooklyn tells them he ‘wants no contact'

CRUZ Beckham has shared a throwback family snap amid the ongoing family feud between the Beckhams. The youngest son of David and Victoria appeared to be looking back at happier times in the family as he shared an old snap of the three brothers with their mum after she had just given birth to daughter, Harper Seven. 5 5 The snap, believed to be taken in 2011, showed the three boys beaming down the lens of the camera as they snuggled up to their mum. Victoria tenderly held her daughter in the heartwarming picture. Cruz's decision to upload the image is very telling amid ongoing tension in the family after Brooklyn decided he no longer wanted contact with his famous family. Cruz did not add any captions nor did he tag his family members in the snap. Earlier today, it was revealed that Brooklyn is refusing to reply to messages amid the bitter feud, according to reports. The sourced said: "Brooklyn told his family he wants no contact and he's not responding to those that try to connect.' However, a source close to Brooklyn denied this and said, "this seems to be another deliberate attempt to misrepresent the truth, and it only serves to distract from this honor being bestowed on Brooklyn's father." The Sun has contacted representatives for Brooklyn and the Beckhams for comment. England legend David will be knighted as part of King Charles ' birthday honours. Peltz-Beckham's respond to reports of family feud It's a title he has coveted for some time and it means Victoria will be come Lady Beckham. David was first put forward for a knighthood in 2011 after helping to secure the London 2012 Olympics. But he was blocked from getting the title by the Honours Committee after becoming caught up in a tax avoidance scheme, along with many other stars. His finances were cleared by the taxman at least four years ago - paving the way for him to finally get the coveted honour. Just weeks ago we revealed how David and Victoria feel there might be no way to reconcile with their eldest child. Brooklyn, who was a no-show at David's star-studded 50th birthday celebrations last month, shared a video of himself and Nicola riding on his motorbike and wrote: 'My whole world. I will love you forever. I always choose you baby.' Those close to the Beckhams said the message seemed 'very pointed'. A source added: 'It shows how much this situation with his family has escalated. 5 "It's very sad for everyone involved, especially David and Victoria who love him very much. This isn't the Brooklyn his family knows and loves. 'This post was like a dagger to their hearts but they will always be there for Brooklyn.' Tensions became public when Brooklyn did not publicly acknowledge fashion designer Victoria, 51, on Mother's Day. He then failed to show at any of David's 50th birthday parties. His mum and dad have continued to acknowledge him on social media, but pals of Brooklyn and Nicola suggested that was for show. The Sun revealed that the couple recently had dinner in California with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who were 'very empathetic'. 5
