Video: Cristiano Ronaldo shows Shara Magomedov support before UFC Saudi Arabia

USA Today29-01-2025

Shara Magomedov has one of the biggest superstars on the planet on his side for his UFC return this Saturday.
The rising middleweight contender met with Cristiano Ronaldo, ex-Real Madrid star and current AlNassr FC player, ahead of his co-main event clash with Michael Page at UFC Fight Night 250 (ESPN+), which takes place at ANB Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
It was a special moment for Magomedov as he used to look up to Ronaldo when he was younger, but what made the experience was Ronaldo's support.
'I met the entire team, and I also met Cristiano Ronaldo, and we talked for about a half hour,' Magomedov said at Wednesday's UFC Fight Night 250 media day. 'He knows a lot about the UFC, and I can tell he's very well versed in the sport. He said he's going to be coming to the fight and rooting for me. He said I have a lot of potential in the sport and that I'm eventually going to be champion.'

Magomedov (15-0 MMA, 4-0 UFC) is undefeated in his UFC career and will be taking on easily the biggest name of his career – Page (22-3 MMA, 1-1 UFC), a former Bellator title challenger. MVP is moving up a weight class for this striking clash as he usually fights in the welterweight division.
Page is coming off a close decision loss to Ian Machado Garry in June, while Magomedov defeated Armen Petrosyan in October with a wild spinning-back-fist KO.

Real Madrid Will Pull Off This Genius Free Transfer

Real Madrid is set to pull off what could prove to be a genius free transfer according to Mundo Deportivo, which cited anonymous sources. President Florentino Perez has acted swiftly following a trophyless season in terms of major silverware, as bitter rival FC Barcelona swept a domestic treble in Spain. His first port of call was replacing head coach Carlo Ancelotti, who now oversees the Brazil national team, and replacing him with one of the game's most hyped young managers in Xabi Alonso. On the weekend that the 2024/2025 La Liga campaign drew to a close, Madrid then announced that it had activated Spain international Dean Huijsen's £50 million release clause at Bournemouth. This was Madrid's first piece of business in the transfer market, which was quickly followed by paying €10 million to get Trent Alexander-Arnold out of an expiring Liverpool contract earlier than June 30 so that he can play the World Club Cup in the United States. The newly-reimagined FIFA tournament with huge prize money on offer is one that Argentine wonderkid Franco Mastantuono is expected to play for his boyhood club River Plate. After the competition, however, he should then cross the Atlantic and complete his transfer to Real Madrid after Los Blancos came out of nowhere and renewed interest in the whiz kid at a time when Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City appeared to be the frontrunners for his capture. To cap off a week where a delegation travelled Madrid looks set to pay the youngster's $51.5 million (€45 million) release clause after reaching an agreement with both the player and his current employer. Aged just 17, Mastantuono is a punt for the future alongside Endrick and Arda Guler. But Perez isn't done there in playing the long game, and while those mentioned three transfers around $170 million ($€147 million to be exact in euros), Perez is looking even further into the future and could have pulled off a major coup. This is because according to Mundo Deportivo, Ajax's Abdellah Ouazane will join Real Madrid's Castilla reserve team in July. Aged 16, he will do so at zero cost because the prodigy of Moroccan descent did not agree fresh terms with the Dutch club in what could prove to be another transfer market masterstroke.

Cristiano Ronaldo planning on Al Nassr stay: ‘Nothing is going to change'

Cristiano Ronaldo has said he is planning to be at Al Nassr next season amid ongoing speculation over his future. Ronaldo's deal with the Saudi Pro League (SPL) club expires on June 30 with The Athletic reporting last month that negotiations had taken place over a new contract for the 40-year-old. FIFA president Gianni Infantino added fuel to the fire in May by claiming Ronaldo 'might play' for a team at the Club World Cup and that there were 'discussions' over the prospect. Al Nassr have not qualified for the newly-expanded tournament in the United States, which begins later this week. Advertisement Ronaldo played that prospect down ahead of Sunday's Nations League final and, speaking after helping Portugal to victory over Spain, he appeared to commit to the SPL club. Asked about his future, Ronaldo said 'practically nothing is going to change' and when prompted with Al Nassr, he replied, 'Yes'. The latest comments follow those he made in a pre-final news conference on Saturday, when he said that he will almost certainly not leave to play in the Club World Cup despite receiving offers to do so. 'You can't go to everything,' Ronaldo added. 'I've pretty much made up my mind not to go to the Club World Cup.' The five-time Ballon d'Or winner has been with Al Nassr since December 2022, after leaving Manchester United, and won the SPL Golden Boot this past season with 25 goals. Ronaldo collected his third trophy with Portugal on Sunday after scoring their second goal in the 61st minute — his 138th for his country — to send the game to extra time and then penalties which they won 5-3. Cristiano Ronaldo, Portugal win second UEFA Nations League title, beats Spain

Cristiano Ronaldo and Portugal earned their UEFA Nations League title, following a victory over Spain in Germany on Sunday. Ronaldo was in tears after his team won 5-3 on penalties. Ronaldo's 138th international goal scored in the 61st minute helped even the score at 2 and force a draw, which was settled in the penalty shootout. Ronaldo left the game in the 88th minute, shortly before regulation concluded, due to an apparent injury. He was subbed out for Gonçalo Ramos. Advertisement Ruben Neves scored the winning kick during a shootout after Alvaro Morata had missed a costly attempt for Spain. Martin Zubimendi scored the game's opening goal to give Spain the 1-0 lead in the 21st minute of the game. Nuno Mendes helped Portugal answer quickly, scoring in the 26th minute off an assist from Pedro Neto. Spain held a 2-1 lead at halftime after Mikel Oyarzabal added a goal off an assist from Pedri. Cristiano Ronaldo kisses the UEFA Nations League trophy as he celebrates with teammates. For Portugal, the victory represented its second UEFA Nations League final victory.
