Daniel Dubois told exactly what he must do against Oleksandr Usyk
British boxing legend George Groves has advised Daniel Dubois to start 'quickly' in his upcoming clash with Oleksandr Usyk.
The pair are scheduled to meet for a second time on Saturday night at Wembley Stadium, London. Dubois and Usyk first went head-to-head back in 2023 - with the latter going on to win via knockout in the ninth round. That said, the clash was not without drama.
Usyk was sent crashing to the canvas in the fifth round with a body shot that was later deemed a low blow, much to the frustration of Dubois' team. Since then, 'Triple D' has been on a real hot streak in the ring, winning his next three fights. The British star comes into the mouthwatering undisputed heavyweight showdown off the back of a knockout victory over Anthony Joshua.
Since making his professional debut, Usyk has been untouchable. As of yet, no fighter has toppled the Ukrainian - with Dubois hoping to become the first man to score a win over the two-time undisputed champion. 'Triple D' is currently in the final stages of preparations for Saturday night's dust-up and will no doubt have a set gameplan to emerge victorious.
Groves has given the Brit some key advice ahead of the showdown. The Brit was speaking at a Midnite Q&A event and he said: 'Dubois has got to start quick. He's got to be switched on mentally from the changing room and prepare himself to start fast. He wants to bring pressure but educated pressure and hopefully land something heavy and big on Usyk in those first few rounds before Usyk gets his rhythm set and his distance control set up. But if he has success early that's the best way to start against Usyk.'
In order to feel 100 per cent on fight night, Dubois has admitted he has been training at night to mimic the conditions of their upcoming bout. Speaking to DAZN, the British heavyweight champ explained the change: "It is how you be fighting, isn't it? And it is much cooler. Training in the day... you would be boiling." He added: "I do like the heat. Makes it harder, but not too much harder. it is bearable now. Bearable, but it is good work. It is always good work."

On his undisputed showdown with Usyk, the 27-year-old has revealed he has made a few changes and is hoping that they will make a positive difference come fight night. "A couple of things we have added," he shared. "On fight night, you will see it come to fruition. Right now, it is the hard work, the grind in the gym, the every day sort of work and just keeping on top of it is what I am doing right now."
The Brit then sent a spine-chilling warning, confidently stating his intention to decisively defeat the Ukrainian. "This time around, I am going to knock him out and I am going to win. That is going to be the main difference from that first fight to this fight. That is going to be the main thing... I am excited, but I have still got a lot of work to do before the 19th," he said. "So, every day, we are chipping away. Right now, I have not got much to say. I am just humble and ready to fight, ready to win, ready to shock the world and take all the belts."

The second bout between Usyk and Dubois is scheduled for Saturday, 19 July, at Wembley Stadium. The fight will be exclusively broadcast live on DAZN PPV. The entire fight card for the night can be accessed live on DAZN PPV, priced at £24.99 in the UK; $59.99 in the US; and $19.99/equivalent in ROW.

But then Usyk played possum and walked the giant knockout artist onto a short left hook to reassert his control. Dubois, as the round closed off, started to look tired, just as Usyk was finding his flow. Dubois threw his first body shot in the final 30 seconds of the fifth and Usyk nodded. But the Brit's output plummeted as he started to fear the brilliant counter punches that always pinged back in his direction when he dared to unload first. Then it unraveled for Dubois when he was cracked with a right hand close to the back of his head. DDD stumbled backwards and took a knee to recover and - to his credit - he jumped up on eight desperate to continue.
