Daniel Dubois told exactly what he must do against Oleksandr Usyk

Daily Mirror3 days ago
'Triple D' is hoping to become the first fighter to ever beat Usyk on fight night - and a former world champion has sent the Brit some advice ahead of the Wembley showdown
British boxing legend George Groves has advised Daniel Dubois to start 'quickly' in his upcoming clash with Oleksandr Usyk.

The pair are scheduled to meet for a second time on Saturday night at Wembley Stadium, London. Dubois and Usyk first went head-to-head back in 2023 - with the latter going on to win via knockout in the ninth round. That said, the clash was not without drama.

Usyk was sent crashing to the canvas in the fifth round with a body shot that was later deemed a low blow, much to the frustration of Dubois' team. Since then, 'Triple D' has been on a real hot streak in the ring, winning his next three fights. The British star comes into the mouthwatering undisputed heavyweight showdown off the back of a knockout victory over Anthony Joshua.

Since making his professional debut, Usyk has been untouchable. As of yet, no fighter has toppled the Ukrainian - with Dubois hoping to become the first man to score a win over the two-time undisputed champion. 'Triple D' is currently in the final stages of preparations for Saturday night's dust-up and will no doubt have a set gameplan to emerge victorious.
Groves has given the Brit some key advice ahead of the showdown. The Brit was speaking at a Midnite Q&A event and he said: 'Dubois has got to start quick. He's got to be switched on mentally from the changing room and prepare himself to start fast. He wants to bring pressure but educated pressure and hopefully land something heavy and big on Usyk in those first few rounds before Usyk gets his rhythm set and his distance control set up. But if he has success early that's the best way to start against Usyk.'
In order to feel 100 per cent on fight night, Dubois has admitted he has been training at night to mimic the conditions of their upcoming bout. Speaking to DAZN, the British heavyweight champ explained the change: "It is how you be fighting, isn't it? And it is much cooler. Training in the day... you would be boiling." He added: "I do like the heat. Makes it harder, but not too much harder. it is bearable now. Bearable, but it is good work. It is always good work."

On his undisputed showdown with Usyk, the 27-year-old has revealed he has made a few changes and is hoping that they will make a positive difference come fight night. "A couple of things we have added," he shared. "On fight night, you will see it come to fruition. Right now, it is the hard work, the grind in the gym, the every day sort of work and just keeping on top of it is what I am doing right now."
The Brit then sent a spine-chilling warning, confidently stating his intention to decisively defeat the Ukrainian. "This time around, I am going to knock him out and I am going to win. That is going to be the main difference from that first fight to this fight. That is going to be the main thing... I am excited, but I have still got a lot of work to do before the 19th," he said. "So, every day, we are chipping away. Right now, I have not got much to say. I am just humble and ready to fight, ready to win, ready to shock the world and take all the belts."

Jake Paul insists he will fight Anthony Joshua as Tyson Fury makes prediction

Jake Paul insists he will fight Anthony Joshua and hopes to do so at Wembley, where he says he will beat the former heavyweight champion. The social media star has built a professional boxing record of 12-1, with his only defeat coming by split decision to Tommy Fury in 2023. His victories have come against a mix of MMA fighters, boxers long past their best and journeyman professionals. However, he wants to step up to the elite level and take on Joshua (28-4) at heavyweight and is adamant that he will get his wish. 'It's gunna happen,' Paul told talkSPORT. 'I want it to happen here [Wembley], all the odds stacked against me. 'I believe that I will beat him, shock the world and create one of the biggest upsets in boxing history.' He also told DAZN: 'We're going to do the unthinkable and create one of the biggest fights in the history of boxing. 'It's not even about it being realistic or not, it's going to happen. Fasten your seatbelts or whatever and when I knock him out I go down in the history books forever.' Paul was in attendance for the Oleksandr Usyk vs Daniel Dubois bout at Wembley for the unified heavyweight title on Saturday night. Tyson Fury is coming off back-to-back defeats to Usyk and he has weighed in on a possible Paul vs Joshua bout, claiming to be extremely confident in the man who would be a huge underdog. 'I think Jake Paul knocks the motherf***er out! Why not?' Fury said. 'Seriously, I think Jake Paul chins AJ if they fight. 100 per cent. If they fight, I'm putting £1m on Jake Paul.' Reacting to Fury's faith in him, Paul said: 'I saw that! He's backing me. He's a smart lad.' Joshua has not fought since being stopped by Dubois in September last year, but has been linked with facing Fury next year. The most powerful man in boxing, Saudi powerbroker Turki Alalshikh, is also on board with a Paul vs Joshua contest. Asked by TalkSPORT of the possibility of the bout, he said: 'We are talking now about the future, let's see. Why not? It's a win-win deal.' Speaking about his own future, Fury (34-2-1) confirmed the least surprising news imaginable, that he intends to return from his latest retirement, set to box again next year. Speaking at a Goldstar Promotions event, the Gypsy King said: 'I do miss it, every single day I wake up in the morning and miss it. I've been away seven months, missed it everyday. I'm open to offers at the moment. More Trending 'I'm not going to be doing any comebacks this year, that's for sure. I'm busy as you can see I've got Netflix here. 'I'm filming At Home With The Furys season two and then next year the big GK is going to make a f***ing comeback. 'The takeover! I'm gonna be 37 in about three weeks so I'm going to be the oldest swinger with all these young boys coming up it's going to be difficult. But I believe I can put on some very good nights still.' The 38-year-old Ukraine legend and London 2012 golden boy needed nine rounds to make the 27-year-old surrender in September. After a close fight that Usyk was dominated, it was a right hand that dropped Dubois first but he bravely climbed off the canvas on eight. But when a missile of a left hook handed seconds later, Dubois was never going to beat the count or the genius who reclaimed the WBC, WBA, WBO and IBF belts once again. And that was his four-belt hat-trick - after he cleared out the cruiserweight division in his first pro run - to cement his place as one of the greatest fighters of all time. READ MORE IN BOXING DU DILIGENCE Fans fear for Dubois after arriving late at Wembley for Usyk fight Essex-based Dubois gave his fans a fright when he didn't arrive at Wembley until around 90minutes before the opening bell. It was a worrying reminder of the scandalous 60 minutes Anthony Joshua gave himself when he was blown away by Dynamite Dan last September in the same ring. He did arrive just in time to see the VIPs take their ringside seats, as Gordan Ramsey, Frank Bruno, Jason Statham and YouTube boxer Jake Paul filled the front rows. And by 9:15pm the Londoner was strapping on his dangerous 10oz black leather gloves and shorts - paying homage to Mike Tyson - and preparing to be the new baddest man on the planet. BEST FREE BETS AND BETTING SIGN UP OFFERS Usyk covered his head with a grey hood, like a mysterious James Bond villain and was roundly booed when his moustached face popped up on the giant screen. Despite a dismal undercard, the home of football was packed to the rafters and Gid Save the King was roared out by the crowd. Kate Scott rocks bold outfit as DAZN presenter stuns in low-cut top for Oleksandr Usyk vs Daniel Dubois And Dubois made his ring walk with a Union Jack flag held over his shoulder by a member of his team. There were fireworks and flame throwers when he emerged from the dressing room and the roar of a lion boomed over the tannoy. Dubois 12-year-old little brother Solomon carried his bright red IBF belt to the ring, despite it being well past his bedtime. Apart from a few head nods to the music, DDD looked ice cool and emotionless as he prepared to dance with the 38-year-old Ukraine genius and his destiny. Usyk's introduction was iconic also, and the pockets of Ukrainians inside the stadium made themselves heard when his trademark tune hit. Moments before the bell, Dubois - who had been prowling around the ring waiting for his foe - walked into his red corner to get his gumshield inserted and he caught his dad Stan's eye at ringside. The pair nodded at each other as the young charge tried to etch the family name into boxing folklore forever. Finally devout Usyk removed his giant silver crucifix, kissed Christ and went to work. Usyk laid down a marker with three brilliant jabs, the first after just 10 seconds. But Dubois didn't wilt and scored back with heavy right hands to the southpaw's chest and one whipped uppercut. In the final seconds of the opener Usyk really opened up with a 1-2-3 combo but Dubois showed off his new defensive skills. Usyk started the second with a fizzing straight left hand but Dubois battled back with a couple of one-twos that looked like banking him the round. But like any boxing mastermind, Usyk knew how to snatch back the upper hand and right before the bell he cracked our boy with a counter left hand and stunned him for the first time. Then Usyk was buzzed as soon as the third started with a big right hand and three more similar whacks followed. But then Usyk played possum and walked the giant knockout artist onto a short left hook to reassert his control. Dubois, as the round closed off, started to look tired, just as Usyk was finding his flow. Dubois threw his first body shot in the final 30 seconds of the fifth and Usyk nodded. But the Brit's output plummeted as he started to fear the brilliant counter punches that always pinged back in his direction when he dared to unload first. Then it unraveled for Dubois when he was cracked with a right hand close to the back of his head. DDD stumbled backwards and took a knee to recover and - to his credit - he jumped up on eight desperate to continue. He looked to his dad in the corner and bit down on his gumshield after gasping for air and inspiration. But it wasn't to come. Usyk switched hands and scythed him down with a sickening straight left. Dubois collapsed again and was never beating the count.
