Two women dead, three injured in fall at religious gathering in Madhya Pradesh's Sehore
According to the police, the incident took place around 12 p.m. at Kubereshwar Dham of religious preacher Pradip Mishra due to overcrowding at the ashram.
Mr. Mishra, a popular religious figure, is scheduled to take out a Kanwar Yatra from his ashram on Wednesday (August 6, 2025) and had called upon devotees to join him, resulting in large crowds at the ashram.
Sehore Additional Superintendent of Police Sunita Rawat told The Hindu that during the distribution of Rudraksha (prayer beads), a woman in the front of a queue fainted and collapsed, due to which some other people also fell, causing injuries to some.
'There was no stampede but some people in a queue had fallen, leading to the incident,' Ms. Rawat said, adding that two people received minor injuries while one woman is currently critical.
The Additional SP said that the victims are yet to be identified.
Another senior officer said that about 50,000 to 60,000 devotees have been coming to the ashram every day during the month of Sawan, and that most of them hail from outside Madhya Pradesh.
'The responsibility of arrangements inside the ashram is on the management. The police and the administration had no role there. Outside the ashram, we have deployed over 400 police personnel for security but we have no role inside,' the officer said, requesting anonymity.
'Before reaching the ashram, they had gone to a river stream nearby to collect holy water by travelling 12 kilometres each side, and after that they stood in line amid the heat and humidity. This may have been the reason of the woman's fainting,' he added.

Woman gang-raped in M.P., four held
A 19-year-old woman was allegedly gang-raped by four men in Madhya Pradesh's Sidhi district, police said on Wednesday (August 6, 2025). Police said the incident took place on Tuesday (August 5, 2025) afternoon when the woman and her friend visited a forested area under Churhat police station limits. The four accused have been arrested. Sidhi Superintendent of Police Ravindra Verma told The Hindu that finding the couple in a secluded area, the accused followed them. 'They thrashed the man and while he ran to seek help, the accused raped the woman,' Mr. Verma said, adding that the woman and her friend reported the incident at Semaria police station. Mr. Verma said five teams of 10 personnel each were formed to trace the accused. 'Three were nabbed overnight, while one man had been hiding atop a nearby hill. Our teams searched for him for 10 hours and caught him on Wednesday evening,' he said. An FIR has been filed under relevant provisions against the four accused, he added. Following the incident, State Congress president Jitu Patwari slammed the State's ruling BJP over the incident and said such incidents prove the 'failure of the government'. 'When will the horror of cases of Dalit, tribal, and women's oppression decrease? When will the government ensure their safety? In the past three years, 7,418 cases of rape of Dalit and tribal women, 558 murders, and 338 gang rapes have been recorded in Madhya Pradesh! The figures recorded in the government report itself reveal that on average, seven Dalit/tribal women are raped every day,' Mr. Patwari wrote on Twitter, while tagging Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, who also heads the Home Department.

Police book five, arrest one in child marriage case in Gurmitkal
The Gurmitkal Police have booked five, including two women, for organising a child marriage recently and arrested the minor girl's husband, who has been made the prime accused in the case. The police action came after a complaint lodged by the officials of the department concerned sought action against those who organised the child marriage in violation of the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act 2006. Superintendent of Police Pruthvik Shankar confirmed the arrest of the man for marrying the minor girl. Talking to The Hindu, Mr. Shankar said, 'A case, under Sections 9, 10 and 11 of the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act 2006 was registered against five people, including the minor girl's husband and the two women, and now, the husband has been arrested.' Reacting to the incident, Deputy Commissioner Harshal Bhoyar said that officials of the departments concerned and others, along with police staff, visited the venue where the marriage was said to have been scheduled as per information received at the Child Helpline 1098. Even after waiting for hours, the officers didn't receive any information about the marriage. Except the relatives of the bride and bridegroom, none other from the families were present. Thus, officers returned back, suggesting to the relatives to ask the parents of the bride and bridegroom to appear before the District Child Committee in Yadgir, he said. He added that after a subsequent complaint against the child marriage was received, the officers concerned lodged a complaint, after necessary inquiry, with the police for legal action against those responsible. 'The district administration has a zero tolerance to any offence against children. Stringent legal action will be taken against those responsible accordingly. If any lapses on the part of officers are found in this, action will be taken against them also. We will not spare anyone,' the Deputy Commissioner said. According to member of the Karnataka State Commission for Child Rights Protection Shashidhar Kosambe, the commission has sent a letter to the Deputy Commissioner to take action and submit a report on action taken.

Two constables suspended for demanding, accepting bribe in Gurmitkal
Superintendent of Police Pruthvik Shankar has placed two police constables attached to the Gurmitkal Police Station under suspension for allegedly accepting bribe to help a complainant in an assault case already registered. Confirming his action, Mr. Shankar told The Hindu on Wednesday that constables Vishwanath Reddy and Gopal Reddy have been placed under suspension and an order for departmental inquiry has been passed. The action by the Superintendent of Police came after he received a report submitted by the Yadgir Deputy Superintendent of Police Suresh M. who conducted an inquiry on a complaint in writing submitted by a woman stating that the constables received ₹10,000 through PhonePe to help the complainant in an assault case registered in the Gurmitkal Police Station. A case of assault against two men in Minasapur village of Gurmitkal taluk was registered recently and the woman sought action against them when the constables demanded and accepted bribe. 'We collected the bank details of the constables to ascertain whether money was credited in their accounts before passing the suspension order,' Mr. Shankar said.
