One-sided games dominate West Kimberley Football League round six

The Broome Towns destroyed the Derby Tigers at the weekend as West Kimberley Football League teams went to battle in round six.
Broome Towns kicked four goals in the opening term, securing a substantial lead, while the Derby Tigers kicked only one as the two teams went head-to-head on Derby Oval on Saturday afternoon, 4.2 (26) to 1.2 (8).
It was no better for the Tigers in the second term, with the Towns kicking six goals to the Tigers' one, 2.2 (14) to 10.6 (66).
The third term was another blow out with the Towns scoring another four goals while the Tigers struggled, scoring just one goal, 14.10 (94) to 3.2 (20).
The Tigers stepped up in the final term by managing to kick two goals, but it was all but over for the side as the Broome Towns had scored another six goals, running away with the win, 20.13 (133) to 5.2 (32).
The Tigers' Craig Buckley, Patrick Carter, Ralph Cox, Buddy Francis and Wade Wungundin tied for their side's top-scorer on one goal each.
It was a much closer match between the Looma Eagles and the Bidyadanga Emus on Father McMahon Oval on Saturday afternoon.
By the end of the first term there was only one point separating the two sides, with the Eagles in the lead, 1.4 (10) to 1.3 (9).
By the end of the second the gap had been extended to just two points but the Emus had taken the lead this time, 4.7 (31) to 4.5 (29).
The Eagles started to get ahead in the third term, scoring six goals to the Emus' two to establish a 23-point lead, 10.8 (68) to 6.9 (45).
The final term saw the Eagles cling on to the lead as the Emus made a final surge on the scoreboard, kicking five goals to the Eagles' two, but it wasn't enough to take the lead, 12.11 (83) to 11.10 (76).
Despite the loss, the Emus' Taryce Stewart was the top goal-scorer of the match on four goals.
The Broome Bulls destroyed the Broome Saints in a one-sided affair on Nipper Roe Oval on Saturday afternoon, 16.16 (112) to 4.2 (26)
Cable Beach and the Peninsula Bombers had a bye.

Brumbies better prepared for Super title push: Hooper

Tom Hooper says the ACT Brumbies' push for the Super Rugby Pacific title has been years in the making and the team feels "far more prepared" than in previous semi-finals. The Brumbies will tackle the Chiefs in Hamilton on Saturday looking to end an Australian team hoodoo in New Zealand, where no side has ever won a Super knock-out game. The ACT side has now made the semis the last four seasons, since the competition added the Pacific element, but haven't been able to crack a place in the final and haven't won the title since 2004. Hooper, who has starred at both lock and blindside flanker, said the current crop of Brumbies faced this challenge with confidence after their seasons together. "It's all been building to a head for a long time now so we're very keen to take it one step further, take the learnings from the last three years and then take the learnings from games we've played this year," the 24-year-old said. "We're far more prepared, this group's been together for a long time and having the nucleus together for a fair chunk of this season has been really beneficial." The teams met in round three at FMG Stadium Waikato with the home side triumphant 49-34, however both scored six tries with the Chiefs' goal-kicking the difference. The Brumbies only trailed by five points before Anton Lienert-Brown locked down the result with a converted try in the 79th minute. The visitors were missing first-choice players Hooper, Noah Lolesio, Rob Valetini, Tuaina Taii Tualima and David Feliua from that starting line-up. The Brumbies eliminated the Hurricanes to advance to the final four, with four of their five tries scored by their front-row, backing themselves to score each time they entered the 22m zone. "It's a huge advantage and we really pride ourselves on our 'A-zone' and I think we 100 per cent rate on the weekend and if we can do that against the Chiefs, it would be really great," Hooper said. "If I look back two years (2023 semi-final against the Chiefs), our conversion rate in A-zone was what lost us that game, ultimately." But Hooper said they weren't "one-trick ponies". "At the moment, we've been doing really well in our pick and go, but that doesn't mean we can't swing it out wide to Corey Toole and he can gas one over. "Any team that's going to win this competition has to have a few different weapons to their arsenal and we're definitely not a one-trick pony. "But that trick at the moment is working very well for us ... we'll keep going back to it, but we've got a few different weapons up our sleeve." Hooper is shifting his career to the UK, but he said he wasn't thinking this could be his last match in Brumbies colours. "We've got two grand finals left and we're going to pour absolutely everything into it as we fell short the last three years because we didn't," he said. "We're pouring everything into this one and then we'll pour everything into the next one and then after that we'll pour beers into the cup and drink out of it."

Formula One makes major changes to calendar as Australia's Grand Prix is again backed in to open season

Formula One will have two races in Spain next season with Madrid making its debut in September and Italy's Imola dropping off the 24-round calendar, governing body FIA has announced. Faith again has be shown in Melbourne's Australian Grand Prix which will again be the season-opener on March 8 (the second consecutive season it has been at the top of the calendar). The March 8 date is a week earlier than last year's race and the first time the season has kicked off that early in the year since 2005. It means those who head to Albert Park will get to see the beginning of a new engine era, and also the debut of Cadillac which has arrived as an 11th team. China's Shanghai circuit will host round two a week later. Monaco will be the first European round on June 7 with Barcelona's Circuit de Catalunya scheduled the following week. Madrid's new street circuit will debut as the last race in Europe on September 13, the weekend after the Italian Grand Prix at Monza. Imola was out of contract after this year's race and drops off the list. The season will end in Abu Dhabi on December 6. 'We are excited to welcome Madrid to the calendar, and to see huge automotive brands like Audi, Cadillac and Ford join the Formula One grid,' said Formula One Chief Executive Stefano Domenicali in a statement released on Tuesday. Swiss-based Sauber will become the Audi works team in 2026 while Ford are partnering with Red Bull.
