Texas Longhorns player honors flood victims at SEC Media Days
However, it wasn't for show or to make an impression for the cameras and the various media members in attendance. Taaffe did it to honor the victims of a recent national tragedy close to home.

Taaffe wore a necktie that was emblazoned with the initials of 27 people who passed away during a series of flash floods earlier this month at Camp Mystic, an all-girls Christian summer camp in Hunt, located in the Texas Hill Country.
At the top of the list of initials on Taaffe's tie was the initials of Dick Eastland, the executive director of Camp Mystic, who passed away in the flood waters while attempting to rescue several of the campers.
'I want to shed light on what's going on in Texas to the SEC, to everybody around the country,' Taaffe said in an interview with Austin TV station KXAN. 'At the end of the day, football is important and it brings us joy, but this is more than football.

'I wanted to show how important this is to us. We've been praying continuously for those families and the community, and I want to help them any way I can.'
Taaffe, a native of Austin who played at Westlake High School, took part last week in a fundraiser at an Austin restaurant where he signed autographs and took photos with fans. He remarked, in another interview with KXAN, that he wanted to do his part to help those in need.
'It's super cool to see everybody here,' said Taaffe at the time. 'It brings tears of joy because it's so cool to see so many people show up.
'It's not about me. It's about the kids who were affected by this. The families.'

Taaffe continued his part to help those affected by the floods with his tie at SEC Media Days as one of the Longhorn players invited to the session.
Texas, coming off back-to-back College Football Playoff appearances, begins what should be another highly anticipated season on Aug. 30 at Ohio State, a rematch of the Buckeyes' CFP semifinal win against the Longhorns in the Cotton Bowl.

MLB insider expects Astros to be aggressive at trade deadline
The Houston Astros have one of the weaker farm systems in baseball, especially for a team sitting atop their division. But, despite their weaker farm system, the Astros and general manager Dana Brown can still make moves at the deadline. And during an appearance on Foul Territory, MLB insider Ken Rosenthal believes the Astros, despite their weaker prospects, will be involved at the deadline. Rosenthal had a firm stance that the Astros would be aggressive at the deadline. "I do think they will be aggressive," Rosenthal said. "The one thing they have also needed and have talked about is a second baseman, preferably a left-handed hitting second baseman. If the Rays go over the next ten days, maybe they make Brandon Lowe available... I do expect them to be aggressive." Houston has a couple of areas it could look to improve. A left-handed hitting batter has been one mentioned often as a potential fit for the Astros. With Yordan Alvarez out, there is a severe lack of left-handed hitters in the lineup. While Tampa Bay Rays second baseman Brandon Lowe, who'd fill the lefty hitter and second base needs, would be an ideal pickup, the odds aren't great. The Rays are in solid shape to contend, just 1.5 games behind the Boston Red Sox for the Wild Card spot. Outside of second base and a lefty hitter, the Astros could also use a left fielder and another starting pitcher, ideally one who'd take over as the team's number three starter. Being aggressive at the trade deadline could be more challenging for the Astros than for other teams. A weaker farm system could lead the Astros to get creative at the deadline, especially if Rosenthal's expectation for the team to be aggressive comes true. Sitting atop the AL West, the Astros should take this chance to bolster their roster. If every player can get healthy, and they can add a few of the positions of need, the Astros could be one of the top teams in the league and contend for a World Series in 2025. SEC football media poll drops. Where does LSU football rank?
LSU football is projected to finish fourth in the SEC media title poll, released Friday. Texas led the way, followed by Georgia, Alabama, LSU, and South Carolina to round out the top five. The Bulldogs and Longhorns finished first and second, respectively, last season. The Tigers return quarterback Garrett Nussmeier, running back Caden Durham, and a core of defensive leaders from last season. The pair, along with linebackers Whit Weeks and Harold Perkins, earned preseason All-SEC honors from the AP. Texas, with Heisman Trophy candidate Arch Manning set to take over as starting quarterback, is the preseason pick to win the SEC championship. The Longhorns received 96 of the 204 votes cast from media members covering the SEC media days this week to be crowned SEC champion on Dec. 6 in Atlanta at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Georgia, with 44 votes, received the second-most votes. If that scenario plays out, it would mean a rematch of the 2024 SEC Championship Game, which Georgia won in an overtime thriller. The SEC title game pits the two teams with the best regular-season conference record against one another. Alabama was third with 29 votes, while LSU got 20. South Carolina was next with five, while Oklahoma received three and Vanderbilt and Florida each got two votes. Tennessee, Ole Miss and Auburn each received one vote. Since 1992, only 10 times has the predicted champion in the preseason poll gone on to win the SEC championship. The 2024 SEC title game averaged 16.6 million viewers, the fourth-largest audience on record for the game.
