Chiefs' Chris Jones voted top interior defensive lineman by AP panel
While Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce have carried the offense, Jones has done the same on the defensive end for the Chiefs with his knack of creating pressure at key moments playing a crucial role in Kansas City's success.
That helped Jones win the honor of being voted the top interior defensive lineman in the league by The Associated Press.
A panel of eight AP Pro Football Writers ranked the top five players at interior defensive line, basing selections on current status entering the 2025 season. First-place votes were worth 10 points. Second through fifth-place votes were worth 5, 3, 2 and 1 points.
Jones got seven of the eight first-place votes to go with one second to win the voting easily. Two other players were on all eight ballots with Dexter Lawrence of the New York Giants getting the other first-place vote to come in second and Philadelphia's Jalen Carter finishing third.
Pittsburgh's Cam Heyward finished fourth and Quinnen Williams of the Jets came in fifth.
Seattle's Leonard Williams, Tennessee's Jeffery Simmons, Denver's Zach Allen and Carolina's Derrick Brown also received votes.
1. CHRIS JONES, Kansas City Chiefs
Jones' sack total of five last season was his lowest since his rookie season in 2016 but he still earned his third straight All-Pro selection after finishing second among all interior defensive linemen with 74 pressures in the regular season, according to Pro Football Focus. Jones' 72 sacks over the past seven seasons rank tied for fifth overall in that span and tied with Aaron Donald for the most among interior linemen.
2. DEXTER LAWRENCE, New York Giants
While most of the other players who got votes at interior defensive line are '3 technique' tackles who line up on the outside shoulder of the guards, Lawrence mostly plays nose tackle directly over the center. Those players are typically run stoppers since it is easier to double-team them in the pass game but Lawrence thrives at both. He had a career-high nine sacks in 12 games last season and his 103 pressures when lined up as a nose tackle the past three seasons are 80 more than any other player, according to PFF.
3. JALEN CARTER, Philadelphia Eagles
Carter was the anchor of Philadelphia's Super Bowl-winning defense last season. He has 10 1/2 sacks and 102 total pressures in the regular season in his first two years, according to PFF, and helps free up the edge rushers for the Eagles because he warrants so many double teams.
4. CAM HEYWARD, Pittsburgh Steelers
Heyward has shown no signs of aging as heads into this season at age 36. He had eight sacks last season when he earned his fourth first-team All-Pro selection. He has 63 1/2 sacks and 91 tackles for loss in the past eight seasons, earning Pro Bowl bids in seven of them.
5. QUINNEN WILLIAMS, New York Jets
Williams' production dipped last season as the Jets' defense struggled overall but he has been a consistent performer since being drafted third overall in 2019. He still has 176 pressures and 23 1/2 sacks the past three seasons.

2025 NFL Predictions, Best Bet: Back Cardinals To Win NFC West
We are almost there, with less than two weeks until the Hall of Fame Game between the Lions and Chargers kicks off the 2025 NFL season. Well, the 2025 preseason at least. But, hey, it's football, and it's on television, so there are plenty of reasons to be excited. A division I want to take a look at is the NFC West. The 49ers are +150 favorites, with a win total of 10.5. You will hear plenty of analysts mentioning the 49ers' easy schedule between now and the start of the season. Their soft schedule, coupled with some expected better health after an injury-plagued 2024 season, is reason for optimism in 2025. However, there are also questions. Can Brock Purdy, no longer playing on a team-friendly rookie contract, now carry what is perhaps not the ultra-talented roster that almost won the championship two years ago? Deebo Samuel is now a Commander and Brandon Aiyuk is expected to start the season on the PUP list (physically unable to perform). Meanwhile, the offensive core of Christian McCaffrey, Trent Williams and George Kittle are all a year older and have a fairly lengthy history of injuries. On defense, key defenders Dre Greenlaw, Talanoa Hufanga and Javon Hargrave all exited via free agency. The 49ers are still a viable contender in the NFC, but not sure +150 is worth a bet. The Rams are +195 and have a win total of 9.5. Many will point to their playoff game against the Eagles, by far the toughest playoff test the eventual champs faced, and use that as evidence the Rams can perhaps win it all this year. I'm not going to argue against picking a likely Hall of Fame quarterback and coach duo, but at +195, I'm not inspired to bet them either. As talented as they are, Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford is 37, has had a history of nagging injuries and will be playing a challenging first-place schedule. The Seahawks went through a total makeover this offseason, trading both their quarterback, Geno Smith, and their best wide receiver, DK Metcalf. While new quarterback Sam Darnold had a breakout year last year in Minnesota, I'm skeptical he can duplicate that success this season behind a weaker offensive line, with lesser surrounding talent on his new team. At +475 odds to win the division, with a win total of 8.5, I am not a buyer of the new-look Seahawks. The team I like is the Arizona Cardinals at +475 (a $10 bet returns $57.50). The Cardinals will bring back two-time Pro Bowl QB Kyler Murray, and an offense that was seventh offensively last year in yards per play. They went all defense in the draft, adding Walter Nolen, Will Johnson, Jordan Burch and a couple of key pieces from the Ohio State defense (Cody Simon and Denzel Burke) that just won the National Championship. That wasn't the only champion they added, as Josh Sweat, a key cog in last year's Eagles defense, now calls the desert home. With a soft early schedule, the Cardinals can get off to a hot start against the likes of the Saints, Panthers, Titans, Colts and Seahawks early on. At +475, in what is a wide-open division, look for a Cardinals team that was 6-4 at one point last year, and went 3-5 in one-score games, to improve enough to surprise in the NFC West. San Francisco 49ers RB Christian McCaffrey (+2200) McCaffrey's 2024 campaign was a disaster, with the superstar running back playing just four games due to calf, Achilles and knee issues. At the same time, the two-time All-Pro is just one season removed from rushing for an NFL-high 1,459 yards and 14 touchdowns on 5.4 yards per carry, while tallying 67 receptions for 564 yards and seven touchdowns, all of which helped him become a finalist for the 2023 NFL MVP Award and win 2023 Offensive Player of the Year honors. The slippery back has electric speed, is elusive and also an essential element of San Francisco's passing game. A healthy McCaffrey has been arguably the best running back in the NFL in recent memory. T-8. Dallas Cowboys WR CeeDee Lamb (+2000) Lamb continues to make No. 88 shine bright. A four-time Pro Bowler and 2023 All-Pro, Lamb has totaled 1,100-plus receiving yards in each of the past four seasons and 100-plus receptions in each of the past three. Last season, Lamb logged 101 receptions for 1,194 yards and six touchdowns in 15 games in a year that saw quarterback Dak Prescott miss nine games due to a hamstring injury. Lamb has led Dallas in receiving yards in four consecutive seasons and is entering the first season of a four-year, $136 million deal. T-8. Los Angeles Rams WR Puka Nacua (+2000) Nacua missed six regular-season games in 2024 (five due to a knee injury and one due to rest) but was still sharp in the 11 games that he did appear in, totaling 79 receptions for 990 yards and three touchdowns. He then logged 11 receptions for 141 yards in the Rams' two playoff games. Nacua was first among wide receivers with a 92.8 overall grade, according to Pro Football Focus. Just one year ago, Nacua was a Pro Bowler, totaling 105 receptions for 1,486 yards and six touchdowns during his rookie season. T-6. Minnesota Vikings WR Justin Jefferson (+1700) Jefferson is arguably the best receiver the game has to offer. He's a menace in space, gets behind secondaries like nobody's business and produces consistently. A two-time All-Pro and four-time Pro Bowler, Jefferson totaled 103 receptions for 1,533 yards and 10 touchdowns last season. Jefferson, the 2022 NFL Offensive Player of the Year, has totaled 1,000-plus receiving yards in each of his five seasons in the sport and ranked eighth among wide receivers with an 87.2 overall grade last season, per PFF. His production could be difficult to forecast for next season, though, as the Vikings are rolling with QB J.J. McCarthy, who they traded up to select at No. 10 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. T-6. Houston Texans WR Nico Collins (+1700) Collins has become one of the most reliable receivers in the sport. Last season, Collins totaled 68 receptions for 1,006 yards and seven touchdowns, helping him earn his first career Pro Bowl nod. He then logged 12 receptions for 203 yards and one touchdown in Houston's two postseason games. Collins was second among wide receivers with a 91.6 overall grade, per PFF. He did all that despite missing five games due to a hamstring injury. The receiver has posted 1,000-plus receiving yards in each of the past two seasons. T-4. Atlanta Falcons RB Bijan Robinson (+1600) After a plausible and efficient 2023 rookie campaign, Robinson shouldered a larger role in Atlanta's backfield in 2024 and answered the call. Rushing for 1,456 yards and 14 touchdowns on 4.8 yards per carry and reeling in 61 receptions for 431 yards and one score, Robinson, who got the call on the run 90 more times than he did the year before (304 carries in 2024, compared to 214 carries in 2023), earned a Pro Bowl nod. Robinson, who's the focal point of the Falcons' offense, ranked second among running backs with a 92.8 overall grade last season, per PFF. T-4. Baltimore Ravens RB Derrick Henry (+1600) The Ravens brought in Henry to strengthen an already potent running game, and the 252-pound back did just that and then some. In what was his ninth NFL season, Henry rushed for 1,921 yards and an NFL-high 16 touchdowns on a career-high 5.9 yards per carry. Henry, a one-time All-Pro, five-time Pro Bowler and the 2020 Offensive Player of the Year, ranked first among running backs with a 94.0 overall grade, per PFF. The star running back projects to remain the No. 1 source of offense for Baltimore next to quarterback and two-time MVP Lamar Jackson. T-2. Detroit Lions RB Jahmyr Gibbs (+950) Gibbs is one of the most balanced running backs in recent memory. He has blazing speed, makes quick cuts and is a tremendous pass-catching back. Last season, Gibbs rushed for 1,412 yards and an NFL-high 16 touchdowns on 5.6 yards per carry, while totaling 52 receptions for 517 yards and four touchdowns. Gibbs, who ranked sixth among running backs with an 88.5 overall grade, per PFF, has been an integral part of Detroit's offense and a Pro Bowler in each of his first two NFL seasons. T-2. Cincinnati Bengals WR Ja'Marr Chase (+950) Like his former LSU teammate Jefferson, Chase has a reputable case for being the NFL's top receiver. Last season, Chase logged 127 receptions for 1,708 yards and 17 touchdowns, all three totals leading the sport. A one-time All-Pro and Pro Bowler in each of his four NFL seasons, Chase has tallied 1,000-plus yards in each of his four seasons and has consistently been star quarterback Joe Burrow's No. 1 target in the Bengals' passing game. Chase signed a four-year, $161 million extension with the Bengals earlier this offseason. 1. Philadelphia Eagles RB Saquon Barkley (+550) Full-blown hurdling a defender, setting NFL rushing records and becoming part of the Eagles' DNA, Barkley had a special debut season in Philadelphia. Rushing for an NFL-high 2,005 yards and a career-high 13 touchdowns on a career-high 5.8 yards per carry, Barkley earned All-Pro honors and was an MVP finalist. Already becoming just the ninth player all-time to rush for 2,000 yards in a single season, Barkley later set the NFL record for combined rushing yards in a single season (regular season plus postseason), finishing with 2,504 yards on the ground. This former Open champ came out hot on Saturday, then slipped and finished with a 69
Former British Open champion Henrik Stenson was first to take advantage of good scoring conditions at Royal Portrush after getting to four under through 12 holes, although he slid back a bit as the day progressed. Sweden's Stenson, winner at Troon in 2016, made only his third cut in his last 10 majors right on the line at one over. That gave him an early tee time, and he made full use of light winds and warm conditions. The LIV golfer covered the front nine in 32 after a birdie at the second and par-3 sixth, having come 11 inches short of holing his tee shot. Another brilliant approach to the 607-yard seventh set up a 10-foot eagle and another birdie at the par-five 12th moved him into the top 10 and six behind leader Scottie Scheffler, not due out until later with England's Matt Fitzpatrick. Stenson did finish with three bogeys on his final five holes, but still finished the day at 69 and is now 1 under for the competition. Aside from winning the event in 2016, Stenson also placed second at the Open in 2015 at Muirfield and has a pair of third-place finishes.
