Bridge in Sultan Kudarat cleared after boulders blocked access

GMA Network18-05-2025
A bridge in Barangay Pamantingan, Esperanza, Sultan Kudarat that was temporarily blocked by huge boulders has been cleared and is now passable, according to local authorities.
The obstruction occurred after continuous rains on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, caused boulders from a creek nearby to be swept onto the bridge by strong water current.
The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) confirmed that clearing operations have been completed and the bridge is now open to motorists.
The bridge connects to the road toward Barangay Salumping and is also used by residents of Barangay Villamonte in Lebak town.
Meanwhile, five families were evacuated due to flooding and were given assistance by the local government.
'Limang bahay, dito na sila sa barangay hall. Five families, walang damage, pero nadaanan sila ng tubig,' Barangay Pamantingan Chairwoman Gloria Ugalingan Pasaan said.
(Five houses were not damaged but were flooded, the families have sheltered in the barangay hall.)
State weather bureau PAGASA said the weather disturbance was due to the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ), which continues to affect several areas in Mindanao. — GMA Regional TV News

Huaning exits PAR, heads for Japan's Ryukyu Islands

Tropical Depression Huaning has exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) as of 5 a.m. Tuesday, PAGASA reported. In its 5 a.m. bulletin, the state weather bureau said Huaning slightly accelerated while moving north-northeastward toward the Ryukyu Islands of Japan. It was last spotted 650 kilometers east northeast of Itbayat, Batanes, with maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 70 kph. The tropical depression was moving at 10 kph. PAGASA said Huaning is unlikely to directly affect any part of the country throughout the forecast period. The weather disturbance is also not expected to influence sea conditions in Philippine coastal waters. On its current track, Huaning may pass near or over the Ryukyu Islands within the day. The tropical depression is projected to maintain its strength, though PAGASA noted that intensification into a tropical storm is still possible, albeit unlikely at this time. Despite exiting PAR, PAGASA advised the public to continue monitoring official updates, with the next advisory scheduled at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday. —Sherylin Untalan/KG, GMA Integrated News

Huaning expected to exit PAR on Tuesday, Aug 19

Tropical Depression Huaning is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Tuesday, Aug. 19, as it continues to head northward slowly, PAGASA said late Monday evening. Based on its 11 p.m. weather bulletin, the state weather bureau said Huaning was located 545 kilometers east northeast of Itbayat, Batanes, carrying maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour (km/h) and gusts of up to 70 km/h. 'Huaning is forecast to move generally northward and exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility tomorrow (19 August) morning or noon,' PAGASA said. 'On the track forecast, the tropical depression may pass near or over the Ryukyu Islands tomorrow morning or afternoon,' it added. The bureau maintained that the storm is not likely to affect the country. Huaning is also forecasted to remain as a tropical depression throughout the forecast period. However, its intensification is still not ruled out, but is not the most likely scenario at this time. — BAP, GMA Integrated News
