After 12 years' hiatus, Super GT racing series returns to Malaysia – its only overseas stop
Malaysia will host the third round of the 2025 Super GT series, from June 26 to June 28 at the Petronas Sepang International Circuit.
Toyota Gazoo Racing Malaysia is the title sponsor for the Malaysian round.
The other seven races in the 2025 race calendar will take place at premier circuits across Japan.
Malaysia last hosted the Super GT in 2013 which coincided with the 20th anniversary of the racing series.
The Super GT was slated for a comeback in July 2020, as Malaysia was eyeing to host the world's first-ever GT night race. However, the Covid-19 pandemic pulled the brakes on the plan.
Making up for the letdown, the Super GT Malaysia Festival 2025 is revving up the fanfare, promising a treat for both automotive fans and Japanese culture enthusiasts.
As the Super GT is a major event leading up to Visit Malaysia 2026, it has also been endorsed by Tourism Malaysia, Visit Selangor 2025 and the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

So, what's lined up for you?
Two separate races — the GR86 Cup race and TGR Vios race – will be running concurrently with the Super GT during the three-day event.
Special promotions of automotive products from renowned brands such as Toyota, Honda and Nissan also await car enthusiasts at automotive showcases there.
Additionally, more than 50 cars from the Japanese Domestic Market will also be on display.
Super GT official merchandise will also be on sale during the event.
Cars, however, will not be the only ones stealing the spotlight. The Super GT is also hosting a Japanese cultural festival or Nihon Matsuri for fans to experience the time-tested traditions of the Land of the Rising Sun.
The Nihon Matsuri will feature some 40 vendors rolling out an array of traditional Japanese delicacies, games and performances.

The organisers will be scouting for three top cosplayers daily to give away cash prizes worth RM500 each.
Topping it off, the KLP48 international girl group — sister group to the popular Japanese mega girl-group AKB48 — will be performing at the GT Live! Concert on the final night (June 28).
The GT Live! Concert will also feature several household names, including Kaka Azraff, the Garam Madu fame Naykilla and Jemsii, Fareedpf, Sabhi Saddi, Sara Fajira as well as Kaz and Sora.
Prices of the Super GT tickets range from RM100 (K1 Grandstand) to RM15,000 (Dream Package per two passes).
Except for those in the K1 Grandstand category, ticket-holders from all categories can also participate in a lucky draw by purchasing their tickets with a Mastercard.

Jun Hao ready to put sparring experience in Denmark to good use at worlds
National men's singles shuttler Leong Jun Hao in action against Ireland's Nhat Nguyen in the first round of Malaysian Masters at Axiata Arena, Bukit Jalil on Wednesday. — IZZRAFIQ ALIAS/The Star PETALING JAYA: Not much may be expected from men's singles shuttler Leong Jun Hao in his World Championships debut in Paris next week, but he could well turn out to be one of Malaysia's dark horses. Jun Hao is currently in Denmark with women's singles player K. Letshanaa and fellow men's singles shuttler Justin Hoh, sharpening their game by training with several Danish top players ahead of the major tournament. For Jun Hao, there is little he intends to change with only five days of preparation left. What matters most to him now is putting into play what he has worked on once he steps on court in Paris. 'Since it's only a few days, I don't think there is much more that can be added. The key is to make the most of this sparring experience against stronger and top players. 'I just want to bring out everything I've prepared over the past few weeks on match day and hopefully get a good result,' said Jun Hao. Based on the draw, Jun Hao could go as far as the quarter-finals if he plays to his best form, with him expecting to clear his opening round against Switzerland's Tobias Kunzi. Waiting in the second round could be world No. 14 Kenta Nishimoto of Japan. Although Nishimoto is ranked higher than Jun Hao, who sits at No. 25, the Kuala Lumpur-born shuttler has the upper hand in their head-to-head with three wins from five meetings. Most recently, Jun Hao stunned Nishimoto in the first round of the China Open last month. A tougher test awaits in the third round in the form of Taiwan's world No. 6 Chou Tien-chen. The quarter-finals could throw up several tough opponents including Indonesia's Anthony Ginting. However, Anthony only recently returned to action after a six-month layoff with a shoulder injury. Should Jun Hao run into India's H.S. Prannoy, their record also stands evenly at 1-1. Their last encounter came three years ago during the Thomas Cup in Bangkok. The biggest hurdle though, could be second seed Anders Antonsen. The Dane, who has been in fine form, got the better of Jun Hao in last year's Thomas Cup campaign in Chengdu. But if Jun Hao can spring a surprise and make the semi-finals, it will already be a proud achievement as it guarantees him at least a bronze medal. It would also be a fitting parallel to Datuk Lee Chong Wei's debut at the 2005 World Championships in Anaheim, the United States, when he returned home with a bronze medal.

SIC stresses priority is on MotoGP future in Malaysia, rules out F1 comeback for now
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 20 — Sepang International Circuit (SIC) has reaffirmed that its current focus is on securing the continuation of the MotoGP Malaysia beyond 2026, and not on the potential return of Formula 1. In a statement today, SIC clarified that its Chief Executive Officer Azhan Shafrima Hanif's recent remarks referred specifically to the renewal of MotoGP Malaysia contract, following some confusion arising from media reports. 'Formula 1 remains a significant part of our history, regaining its hosting rights has proven to be both complex and costly. 'The key priority is safeguarding MotoGP, which continues to resonate strongly with Malaysian fans and remains more accessible from both a spectator and organisational standpoint,' the statement read. For the record Malaysia's current contract to host MotoGP runs until 2026. Meanwhile, in the same statement SIC said they remain committed to working closely with the Youth and Sports Ministry (KBS), Dorna Sports S.L and other relevant stakeholders to ensure the continuation of the prestigious event, which is also the longest-running international sporting event in the country. 'SIC will continue to provide comprehensive data and insights on the economic, tourism and developmental impact to support informed decision-making on MotoGP's future in Malaysia. Hundreds at Astro's ‘One for the Fans' viewing party to kick off 2025/26 Premier League season
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 20 – Astro kicked off the 2025/26 English Premier League (EPL) season in style with the launch of 'One for the Fans', a season-long campaign celebrating the passion and loyalty of EPL supporters. To mark the opening weekend, Astro hosted an electrifying viewing party at Strand Mall for the Arsenal vs Manchester United clash. From as early as 7pm, the mall was already buzzing with excitement. Fans in jerseys and scarves filled the atrium, swapping predictions, snapping photos with club banners, and enjoying 'live' entertainment put on by Astro. Large LED displays showcased EPL highlights while Astro Supersport hosts mingled with the crowd, giving the event the feel of a 'live' stadium experience. One fan who stood out was 28-year-old Thivagaran, a die-hard Arsenal supporter, who wore a quirky 'Biryani Rice' jersey in tribute to midfielder Declan Rice. 'As we know Ruben plays players based on their heart, the spirit of the player unlike Ten Hag (Manchester United's former manager). He knows how the players are playing and even if they're playing poorly he will fix it and he will never give up on the team. 'As for the guy we want, Baleba, to be fair for pre-season Mason Mount is playing well. His chemistry with Bruno Fernandes is very very good and I think they need time to rebuild their chemistry,' said Fazziq. United are still trying to buy 21-year-old defensive midfielder Carlos Noom Quomah Baleba from Brighton but the price the club put on the youngster at £100 million pounds (RM572.5 million) was too steep. The crowd grew quieter as kickoff approached, with fans waving flags and belting out chants in unison. When Riccardo Calafiori's 13th-minute header gave Arsenal the lead, the atrium erupted. Red shirts leaping in joy while United fans groaned, only to break into chants to rally their side. For the next 77 minutes, the tension was palpable. Every save, tackle and counterattack was met with cheers, gasps, and nervous laughter, all amplified by Astro's booming 'live' broadcast. By the final whistle, the result of a 1-0 Arsenal win was almost secondary. What stood out was the camaraderie.
