GCC Unified Tourist Visa to launch trial in 2025: Everything you need to know
The Schengen-style visa, which will officially be named 'GCC Grand Tours', will allow freedom of movement between residents in the six Gulf Cooperation Council countries.
Countries included in the system are the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait and Oman.
In July 2025, Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, the UAE Minister of Economy and Tourism, said that a pilot run of the visa will be launched in the final quarter of 2025.
The trial phase will come in the final months of this year before a full implementation of the visa at a later date.
Visa-free travel is already available for citizens of GCC countries across the region, but the GCC Grand Tours Visa will enable the millions of foreign nationals living in the region to travel freely.
It will simplify the process of getting visas and will likely have a longer validity period and lower overall costs compared to obtaining six separate visas.
Plans for the new GCC Unified Tourist Visa were officially approved late in 2023 following a unanimous vote by ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council at a meeting in Oman.
The visa is aimed at encouraging tourism within the region and growing each nation's tourist economy.
When can we get a GCC Unified Tourist Visa?
Doha
According to the latest update in July, the visa looks set to be launched initially as a trial in 2025 before a wider rollout.
Ministers representing the six Gulf Cooperation Council countries met in Riyadh back in June 2025 to discuss the unified tourist visa project.
The nations are working closely together to keep pace with technological developments across the world and to meet the security requirements of each country.
For now, UAE residents have different conditions for travelling within the GCC, so the introduction of the new GCC Unified Tourist Visa will allow for more consistency. It's expected to greatly streamline the process when travelling across the region.
Applicants will likely be able to choose between one-country or six-country access and the validity period of the visa may be between 30 and 90 days.
Current visa rules for GCC travel from the UAE
UAE citizens do not need a visa to enter Saudi Arabia and can stay for up to 90 days but people just living in UAE do require a visa.
In Bahrain, it's a similar story as UAE natives don't require a visa to enter, but passport holders of other countries who reside in the UAE need either an eVisa or a Bahrain on-arrival visa.

Oman is open to UAE citizens without the need for a visa, but residents in the GCC currently need to be on a list of approved professions or be accompanied by someone who is in order to get an unsponsored visa.
Citizens of GCC countries can enter Kuwait without a visa by presenting a valid GCC ID card, but those who are non-nationals will need an eVisa or visa-on-arrival.
Qatar allows citizens of more than 100 countries to enter visa-free, including those from the UAE. Lengths of stay vary, and conditions will be different depending on your nationality.
And, people travelling to the UAE from other GCC countries are allowed entry for a period of no longer than 30 days, which can only be extended once with an eVisa.
What do you need for a GCC Unified Tourist Visa?
As the details of the visa have not yet been fully ironed out, the requirements to get your hands on one are also not yet confirmed.
However, it has previously been hinted by the UAE Minister of Economy Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri that the visa will apply to residents within the GCC rather than just passport holders.

In November 2023 he said: 'Hopefully, we are going to see something around a pan-GCC visa which will allow easier mobility of people within the GCC.
'A resident of Saudi, for instance, can enter the UAE and vice versa. I think that's where we see the future of GCC tourism.'
This could mean that your Emirates ID is about to become even more powerful than it already is.
What will the GCC Unified Tourist Visa mean for UAE?
While the UAE is arguably the best prepared of the six GCC nations to welcome large swathes of tourists, the country is going to make some changes to make travelling easier.
For visitors to the UAE, the Emirates Tourism Council say they are working on a tourist route within the country which will interconnect the seven emirates.
Infrastructure projects such as the Etihad Rail passenger train should make travel around the UAE easier (Credit: WAM)
The new Etihad Rail passenger train is set to start operations in 2026 should also make travel around the UAE much easier.

Old Glasgow school building to be turned into social housing
Glasgow City Council (GCC) confirmed that the former Newlands Centre in Parkhead is to be converted into flats for social rent. At a committee meeting held on Thursday, August 7, councillors gave the green light for negotiations to begin for the off-market disposal of the property at 871 Springfield Road to Wheatley Homes. The three-storey former parish school is located close to Parkhead Cross and features a small two-storey extension as well as car parking facilities. The school closed in the 1970s and has been used for various purposes, including most recently as Health and Social Care Partnership offices. It was declared surplus to council requirements in October 2024. Land at Easterhill Street in Tollcross is also being disposed of to be developed into properties for mid-market rent. Councillors approved for two plots of land on the street to be sold to New City Vision Limited. The council will receive £350,000 from the sale of this site. The two plots measure 0.7 hectares in total and are made up of a natural covering of shrubbery and thick trees. GCC notes that the developer needs to secure both sites to make the development feasible. Councillor Ruairi Kelly, convener for Housing, Development, Built Heritage and Land Use at GCC, said: 'These disposals continue the ongoing and successful process in Glasgow of converting unproductive buildings and land into new purposes, in these cases, new and much-needed homes in Glasgow's East End. 'These new homes will meet the needs of people and families, as well as generating very welcome receipts for the public purse that will be reinvested into council services.'

The supermarket will have a new batch of one-off items to pick up during the weekly shop Aldi shoppers will notice a major change in stores today (August 7) as Specialbuy refresh day arrives. The middle aisle, which is often very tempting to shoppers, is popular for its huge range of items that stand out for their budget prices. Each week follows a specific theme - and this one is perfect for people already prepping for the upcoming 2025/26 school term. It seems like the summer holidays only just started for kids, but September is just a few weeks away. With it comes the start of a new school year, which can be expensive for parents. They will need to make sure their kids have the right size uniforms and enough supplies for the best learning experience possible. Spreading the cost can help the overall expense feel less like a sudden bank balance drain, and Aldi has launched a handful of affordable items that are perfect for school, college, university or even the office. The range includes water bottles, lunch boxes and stationery. It can be somewhat overwhelming to browse what's in stock during your weekly shop, and you might end up missing something. So, look ahead of time at what to expect with this roundup of new items coming into stores. Dylan (@dylanreviews) is an Aldi employee who regularly showcases the Specialbuys for his massive 353,000 followers each week. He showed off a range of drinkware, including 750ml Stainless Steel Flasks (£6.99) and a jumbo 1.8L bottle (£9.99). For little ones, there was a choice of different Squishmallow-themed bottles (£3.99). He also showed off a variety of Silicone Storage Packs (£2.99 for 3pk), ideal for packed lunches. Sticking with lunchtime, there is also some Bento-style lunchboxes for £3.99 and £4.99 (depending on size). To carry everything, shoppers can grab a simple Polar Gear Lunch Bag (£4.99) in plain colours like black, pink or blue - ideal for older kids or taking to the office. Aldi is also selling a really useful tool for the office that's sure to save disputes over charging cables. The 3 in 1 Charger (£9.99) allows one connection to power up wireless headphones, smartwatches, and smartphones. The supermarket is also selling wireless speakers, alarm clocks, and headphones that work via Bluetooth (all £11.99 each). Some items are listed in the Specialbuys section on the Aldi website. For example, shoppers can get a range of Mixed Stationery for 99p each, including coloured pens, pencils, highlighters, and geometry sets (including ruler, protractor, and set squares). There were also mini packs of paper clips, staples, push pins, and more, also for 99p. In addition to the school items, shoppers might also spot the Italian theme running through the store this week with the arrival of new products. Celebrating the Taste of Italy event, shoppers can get a variety of sauces, pastas, recipe kits, sweet treats, and an alcoholic tipple inspired by the Mediterranean country from 59p. Aldi Specialbuys are limited-time offers on unique items that appear in stores. The theme is refreshed every Thursday and Sunday, meaning shoppers tend to have a limited amount of time to get particular products. You can find details about upcoming Specialbuys by checking the Aldi website, picking up a leaflet in-store, or signing up for email alerts.

Para-athlete from Sussex plans solo round-the-world sailing voyage
A para-athlete is planning on competing in a solo round-the-world sailing voyage, which would make her the first female, disabled sailor to complete such a feat. Jazz Turner, 27, lives with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, a genetic condition that affects connective tissue. She recently circumnavigated the UK and Ireland, in a challenge she called 'Project Fear'. Now she has announced her next big challenge, to take part in next year's Royal Western Yacht Club of England's WorldStar challenge. Ms Turner, from Seaford, East Sussex, was diagnosed with the illness, which causes fainting and seizures, when she was 18. Due to complications, doctors have told her that her condition is now terminal. "As my condition has progressed, the one thing I made sure of was that I never stopped sailing," she said. For next year's challenge, she now needs to secure the right boat and sponsorship to carry her around the globe. "I've always been drawn to challenges that push me to my edge," she said. "Project Fear was born off the back of the announcement of the WorldStar 2026. I face many a 'no' in my life, I do my best to turn them into 'yes'. "The right partnership could turn this vision into reality. "Whether it's a boat owner willing to lend their yacht or sponsors eager to back a remarkable human and sporting story, I'm inviting them to join me on this journey.' The WorldStar 2026 leaves Plymouth in September next year and tests sailors to circle the globe without outside assistance or stops. Adrian Gray, commodore of the Royal Western Yacht Club, said: "Jazz is the epitome of why we created this Corinthian-style race. "This is a race for sailors, run by sailors and the only one of its style in the UK. "When we initially reached out to Jazz and she told us her 'Project Fear' campaign, a solo, non-stop, unassisted circumnavigation of the UK and Ireland, was started following our announcement of the WorldStar, we knew we wanted to help Jazz fulfil her life's dream."
