Mamelodi Sundowns – Betway Premiership
Sundowns secured a record-extending eighth consecutive league title, and 15th overall, after beating Chippa United 3–0 in their penultimate game on Wednesday.
They lived up to their 'Bafana Ba Style' moniker, going about their business with swagger and class, breaking records along the way. Sundowns have scored 63 goals in the league this season so far – a record in the PSL-era, surpassing the previous best of 56.
Coach Miguel Cardoso also deserves plaudits for getting the best out of his squad despite only taking charge late last year.
Kaizer Chiefs – Nedbank Cup
Chiefs ended their 10-year trophy drought by lifting the Nedbank Cup, becoming the first club in the top flight to win the country's premier knockout competition 14 times.
Amakhosi reached this milestone with some breathtaking victories over their rivals, Sundowns and Orlando Pirates, in the semi-final and final, respectively. The Ke Yona Cup brought some much-needed relief to the club and its supporters, salvaging what had been a disappointing league campaign.
Coach Nasreddine Nabi's side has been inconsistent in the league — they must win their next two matches to have any chance of finishing in the Top 8.
Orlando Pirates – MTN8
The Sea Robbers became the first club to win the MTN8 in three successive seasons during the PSL-era, after defeating AmaZulu, Sundowns and Stellenbosch en route to the final.
The Sea Robbers tried to carry that MTN8 momentum into their league campaign, but fell short, finishing runners-up to Sundowns on all three occasions.
Outgoing coach Jose Riveiro will have fond memories of the MTN8, having won all three finals at the iconic Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban. With a new manager set to take the reins next season, they will have big shoes to fill, especially in maintaining the club's domestic cup pedigree.
Magesi – Carling Knockout
Dikwena tša Meetse achieved the improbable by winning the Carling Knockout at the first attempt, having only been promoted from the National First Division last season.
Their triumph was historic. They defeated Pirates in the opening round before claiming victory over Sundowns in the final in Bloemfontein. Coach Clinton Larsen didn't last long enough to carry that form into the rest of the league campaign, as he was replaced by Owen Da Gama.
'RubberDoll', as Da Gama is affectionately known in football circles, has impressed in his long-awaited return to the dugout, ensuring the club is not embroiled in a relegation battle.

Rivals overtake Kaizer Chiefs in race for Mamelodi Sundowns star
Kaizer Chiefs are still searching the market to add some top attacking talents to their side for next season. Chiefs have struggled for goals in the past three seasons and missed out on the top eight again last season. There have been quite a few attackers linked with Chiefs going into the next season. This as a sign of what they're trying to fix in the final third. Amakhosi have seen the likes of Fiston Mayele, Etiosa Ighodaro, Robert Polievka mentioned as strikers. In the wingers department Oswin Appollis, Elias Mokwana, Mihlali Mayambela and Keletso Makgalwa have been touted. Another player who was also linked with Chiefs not too long ago was Mamelodi Sundowns star Thapelo Maseko. The player has not had the best of times since joining Masandawana, getting very limited game time so far. His situation took an even worse turn after being left out by the side for their FIFA Club World Cup exploits. The rumours of Maseko joining Chiefs have gone quiet recently and its now his former side SuperSport United being mentioned. According to Soccer-Laduma , talks of a return Matsatsantsa are at an advanced stage! 'SuperSport United wanted him initially on loan in January before they got Lebohang Maboe but things didn't work out that time. Now they are working on a permanent deal for Maseko and apparently it's believed that it's imminent,' said a source to the same publication. A well placed source also told the same publication that Maseko was no longer in the Sundowns plans. 'You see those players who went to the USA for the FIFA Club World Cup are the core of Sundowns. Their contracts and future is safe. Thapelo Maseko was left behind so that he could finalise his move back to SuperSport United and now it's believed that the deal is imminent,' said the source. PSL transfer news: Mbesuma, Mbule, Mofokeng, Moremi, Rulani
Premier Soccer League (PSL) clubs are preparing for the transfer window to open in the coming weeks. The Betway Premiership might have ended but expect more player movement from now until mid-September. While champions Mamelodi Sundowns are preparing for the FIFA Club World Cup, Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates will look to capitalise and bring in top players to challenge for top honours. Last year, Amakhosi was the busiest PSL team in the transfer window, bringing in seven players before adding three more in the January period. Under Nasreddine Nabi, the Soweto giants won the Nedbank Cup but failed to improve in the league. Collins Mbesuma, who played for Amakhosi in the mid-2000s, has offered his services to his former club. 'A PSL club? Of course, Khosi for Life. At my peak, I could be solving their current goal-scoring crisis. I'm a striker's coach, you know, so I'm available to help any team,' Mbesuma told KickOff . The midfielder was been linked with Amakhosi for several weeks, having reportedly parted ways with Mamelodi Sundowns. His agent, Mike Makaab revealed he offered the ex-Richards Bay midfielder to Amakhosi 'Let me set the record straight. Sipho Mbule has been offered to Kaizer Chiefs,' the agent admitted on X. 'It is up to the club to make the decision and we need to respect that decision.' Another player on the move is AmaZulu winger Tshepang Moremi. According to Soccer Laduma , the Buccaneers had secured a three-year deal with the KwaZulu-Natal-based talent. 'We can say that this Orlando Pirates and Moremi deal is as good as done,' an insider told Soccer Laduma . Yes, it's believed that Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs were also interested in him, but Pirates have won this race. It's as good as done at the moment,' the insider added. Another coach who could rejoin Orlando Pirates is Rulani Mokwena. With Jose Riveiro with Al Ahly, Mokwena is amongst the favourites to take over from the Spaniard. The 37-year-old has a short, unsuccessful stint with Tunisian giants Wydad Casablanca. Orlando Pirates will be the PSL team to watch this transfer period, having already released several players. One top player set to leave for Europe is Relebohile Mofokeng. Thabo Nthethe, former Mamelodi Sundowns defender and current assistant coach of Casric Stars, insists the clubs is ready for the PSL promotion/relegation play-offs. Photo: BackpagePix Image: BackpagePix The eagerly awaited PSL promotion/relegation play-offs are set to begin as Orbit College hosts Casric Stars at Olympia Park Stadium in Rustenburg on Wednesday (3pm kick-off). A coveted spot in the Betway Premiership will be at stake when both NFD Motsepe Foundation Championship (MFC) teams rekindle their rivalry. Despite the extended delay before the mini-tournament gets underway, the intensity and significance remain undiminished. Durban City secured promotion to the top flight, and although their celebrations were put on hold due to an ongoing investigation into the registration of former Marumo Gallants midfielder Saziso Magawana, they were on Tuesday officially crowned and began their top-flight journey. In contrast, Cape Town City face the threat of relegation and will be the third side competing to retain their place in the Premiership after a disappointing campaign that left them 15th on the table. 🚨 𝐂𝐎𝐍𝐅𝐈𝐑𝐌𝐄𝐃: 𝐔𝐩𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐏𝐒𝐋 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐦𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐲-𝐨𝐟𝐟 𝐟𝐢𝐱𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐬 🚨 — Official PSL (@OfficialPSL) June 5, 2025 Video Player is loading. The first fixture carries significant weight not only for Casric and Orbit but also in shaping momentum for the remainder of the tournament. The Mpumalanga-based outfit's assistant coach, Thabo Nthethe, who has been part of the team since their first season in the first division, spoke enthusiastically ahead of their second shot at top-flight promotion in three seasons. 'I can confidently say that the players are ready,' Nthethe told Independent Newspapers. He also commended the influence of head coach Bucs Mthombeni in preparing the team for the playoffs. 'The appointment of coach Mthombeni has been key. He is one coach who is able to motivate players because sometimes it's not about getting players fit because they already have that, but it's about giving them hope and keeping them motivated, and that is what he has been doing. 'The boys are happy, and they want to do well for the team. Each and every one of them knows that the team wants to get promoted into the Betway Premiership next season, and they are willing to do that.'
