Jota inducted into Wolves' Hall of Fame
LONDON : Wolverhampton Wanderers have paid tribute to Portuguese forward Diogo Jota by inducting him into the club's Hall of Fame after he was killed in a car accident earlier this month.
Jota helped Wolves gain promotion to the Premier League in 2018 before joining Liverpool in 2020.
'Diogo was not only a phenomenal footballer, but someone who carried himself with humility and kindness throughout his time at Wolves, and will be sorely missed by all of us,' Wolves' director of football administration Matt Wild said in a statement late on Thursday.
Billy Wright, Derek Dougan and Steve Bull are among those already inducted in the club's Hall of Fame, which was established in 2008.

FILE PHOTO: Soccer Football - Women's International Friendly - England Press Conference - St. George's Park, Burton upon Trent, Britain - June 28, 2025 England's Jess Carter during the press conference Action Images via Reuters/Peter Cziborra/File Photo ZURICH (Reuters) -England defender Jess Carter said she has been the target of racist abuse since Euro 2025 began in Switzerland, and announced on Sunday that she is stepping away from social media for the duration of the tournament. "Whilst every fan is entitled to their opinion on performance and result I don't agree or think that it's ok to target someone's appearance or race," Carter, who is Black, posted in a lengthy Instagram statement. "I am taking this measure to protect myself in a bid to keep my focus on helping the team anyway I can. "Hopefully speaking out will make the people writing this abuse think twice so that others won't have to deal with it." The 27-year-old has started all four of England's games at the tournament. England play Italy in the semifinals on Tuesday in Geneva. "We have made historic changes with this Lionesses squad that I am so proud to be a part of and my hope is that by speaking out about this it will make another positive change for all." FA CEO Mark Bullingham condemned the abuse. "Our priority is Jess and giving her all the support she needs," Bullingham said in a statement. "We strongly condemn those responsible for this disgusting racism." Bullingham said the FA has been in contact with UK police, who are in touch with the relevant social media platform. "We are working with police to ensure those responsible for this hate crime are brought to justice," he said. "Regrettably this is not the first time this has happened to an England player, so we had measures in place to allow us to respond quickly and where possible provide information to support any potential police action." Kyle Walker-Peters joins West Ham on free transfer from Southampton
ENGLAND full-back Kyle Walker-Peters has completed a free transfer to West Ham United, signing a three-year contract with the Premier League club. The 28-year-old defender leaves Southampton after making over 200 appearances, including 33 in the Premier League last season. Walker-Peters, a product of Tottenham Hotspur's academy, earned two caps for England in 2022. His move to West Ham reunites him with coach Graham Potter, who played a key role in convincing the defender to join. 'It feels like it has been a long-time coming - I've been linked with a move to the club in the past - and I'm just happy to be here now,' Walker-Peters said. 'I spoke to Graham Potter and he was a big, big part of me making the decision. I've always liked his style as a coach, and I think it will suit me well.' West Ham, who finished 14th last season, will begin their 2025-26 Premier League campaign on August 16 with an away fixture against Sunderland. - Reuters

Man Utd need more pace in midfield, says Amorim after Leeds draw
MANCHESTER United manager Ruben Amorim admitted his team lacked pace in midfield after a goalless pre-season draw against Leeds United on Saturday. The match, played in Stockholm, marked United's first outing of their pre-season campaign. United endured a disappointing 2024-25 Premier League season, finishing 15th and missing out on Champions League qualification after losing the Europa League final to Tottenham Hotspur. Their struggles continued against newly promoted Leeds, with new signing Matheus Cunha failing to make a significant impact in the starting lineup. 'We suffered a little bit when we tried to press high, they kick the ball, win the second ball and they were a danger in that moment,' Amorim told MUTV. 'We have a lack of pace, especially in the middle of the park, and you can feel it, (so) that's hard to bring the ball (forward). But we created chances.' Despite the underwhelming performance, Amorim remained optimistic, calling it a 'good test' against a Premier League opponent. 'As a group, we have a lot to improve, the speed of the game, all the details, so, yeah, we are going to improve,' he added. United's next pre-season fixture is against West Ham United at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on July 26. - Reuters
