Notre Dame announces when it will wear green jerseys during the 2025 football season

USA Today5 days ago
One of the unique traditions that Notre Dame football has adopted over the years was picking one game during the season to wear green jerseys, and on Friday, as the calendar turned to August, the Irish announced they'll be donning the alternates when they hose Boise State on Oct. 4.
It's a unique team choice, as the Broncos also have a different look than the majority of teams across the nation. Their blue and orange stands out, as does their all blue turf at Albertsons Stadium and it will be quite the interesting combination when the two teams face each other.
Last year's game when the Irish wore green was in a win against Louisville, continuing a tradition started in 1921, but really picked up steam in 1942 when they decided to use them as alternates. It was a huge return to wearing those jerseys in 1977 twice. When Notre Dame wears them, they are 'lucky' was they've compiled a 43-15-1 record according to the USA TODAY.
Hopefully the Irish can continue their winning ways while wearing green in early October against Boise State.

Nebraska volleyball ranked No. 1 in AVCA preseason poll

The first poll of the 2025 collegiate volleyball season has been released, and the Cornhuskers are on top. Nebraska ranks No. 1 in the country in the AVCA/TARAFLEX Division I women's volleyball preseason poll. The Huskers received 40 of the 61 first-place votes while No. 2 Penn State had the other 21 votes. Pittsburgh ranks No. 3, with Louisville No. 4 and Texas rounding out the top five. The last time the Huskers were ranked as a preseason No. 1 was in 2022. Nebraska was last ranked No. 1 in the AVCA Poll on Nov. 27, 2023. Nebraska finished 33-3 last season, ending the year in the NCAA semifinals. Now, the team is entering a new era following the retirement of John Cook, with head coach Dani Busboom Kelly at the helm. For the Big Ten this season, the Huskers rank No. 1 in the preseason rankings. Three Nebraska volleyball players were named to an award watch list late last month. Andi Jackson, Harper Murray, and Bergen Reilly were named to the AVCA Player of the Year watch list. Nebraska will begin the 2025 season on Friday, August 22, when the Huskers host No. 3 Pittsburgh at Pinnacle Bank Arena. Steelers training camp fight breaks out after massive hit on rookie RB Kaleb Johnson

Esezi Otomewo decked Kaleb Johnson on a run. Team is only in spiders and the OL especially took swung at him. Lots of jawing back and forth. Steelers tempers were high at training camp, as fists flew between the offensive and defensive lines. According to PennLive's Nick Farabaugh, DT Esezi Otomewo delivered a huge hit following a run by rookie RB Kaleb Johnson during a team drill on Wednesday — despite players wearing lighter spider pads at practice. The offensive line didn't take the overaggressive behavior lying down, leading to a physical altercation over the massive hit — in which OT Troy Fautanu was spotted taking a swing at Otomewo. With the Steelers' preseason opener just around the corner and nearly 30 days until the Week 1 regular-season matchup against the Jets, it's no wonder the offensive line took exception to the hit — especially as injuries continue to pile up at training camp, including rookie QB Will Howard's preseason-ending hand fracture. Hopefully these fiery altercations result in a better game-day performance — which fans will get a first glimpse of when the Steelers face off against the Jaguars in the preseason opener on August 9 at 7:00 PM EST. Oregon Ducks cancel non-conference games vs. future Pac-12 team, per report

The Oregon Ducks will kick off the 2025 college football season in a matter of weeks with a home game against the Montana State Bobcats on August 30. However, they reportedly have made some changes to the upcoming schedule, according to a new report from According to the report, both the Oregon Ducks and Utah State Aggies have mutually agreed to cancel a portion of the non-conference series, originally scheduled for 2027, 2028, and 2029. In both 2027 and 2029, the Ducks were scheduled to host Utah State, currently a member of the Mountain West Conference, at Autzen Stadium for non-conference matchups, while Oregon was expected to travel to Logan, Utah, in 2028 to face the Aggies on the road. When this non-conference series was initially scheduled, Oregon was still a member of the Pac-12 Conference, and the major realignment had not yet taken place. Utah State has also announced that it will be leaving the Mountain West Conference in 2026 and joining the new-look Pac-12 Conference, effective July 1. FBSchedules reports that only the games in 2027 and 2028 have been canceled, and that the 2029 matchup is still currently scheduled to take place in Eugene, though there has been a change in the agreement surrounding that game. "Previously, the two schools were set to exchange $300,000 guarantees for the games in 2027 and 2028, and then Utah State would get $875,000 for the third and final game in Eugene," FBSchedules reports. "Per the contract amendment, the Ducks will now pay the Aggies a $1.2 million guarantee for the game in 2029, which is an increase of $325,000." As conference realignment has changed the landscape of the sport over the past couple of years, this is not the first instance of scheduling changes we've seen from top schools. Earlier this year, the Indiana Hoosiers struck the Virginia Cavaliers from their non-conference schedule in 2027 and 2028 with the aim of lightening their scheduling load going forward in the College Football Playoff era. We will see who the Ducks schedule in the Aggies' place going forward.
