With heavy rain lashing several parts of Maharashtra and more downpours expected, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has directed district administrations to stay on high alert and ensure timely relief and rescue operations to prevent loss of life and property.
The India Meteorological Department has forecast intense rainfall in the next few hours, particularly in Mumbai, Konkan, and western Maharashtra.
Shinde reviewed the situation in Thane and other affected districts during a meeting with disaster management officials. He instructed the administration to keep the entire response system ready, monitor flooded roads, bridges, and power lines, and take preventive steps around dangerous buildings.
Special attention should be given to maintaining suburban rail traffic in Mumbai and Thane to avoid commuter inconvenience, Shinde added.

The southwest monsoon arrived in Maharashtra an unprecedented 10 days ahead of schedule, marking its earliest onset in the state since 1990, according to the India Meteorological Department.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a "Nowcast" for Mumbai, predicting thunderstorms with lightning, intense rain, and gusty winds up to 50-60 kmph in isolated areas over the next 3-4 hours. Additionally, light to moderate rainfall is expected across parts of the city in the next 24 hours.
