Iranian Cooperation with IAEA to ‘Take on New Form': FM Araqchi

Leaders12-07-2025
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi stated that Tehran intends to collaborate with the UN nuclear watchdog despite its parliament's restrictions, according to Reuters.
Araqchi also noted that that access to Iranian Nuclear sites bombed by Israel and the US posed security and safety issues.
'The risk of spreading radioactive materials and the risk of exploding leftover munitions … are serious,' Araghchi said.
According to the new law, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) should have approval by the Supreme National Security Council for any future inspection of Iran's nuclear sites.
'For us, IAEA inspectors approaching nuclear sites has both a security aspect … and the safety of the inspectors themselves is a matter that must be examined,' Araqchi said.
He also told Tehran-based diplomats that Iran's cooperation with the nuclear watchdog has not stopped. However, it will take a new form and will be guided and managed through the Supreme National Security Council.
Last week, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said that the United Nations' nuclear watchdog should abandon its 'double standards' if Tehran wants to resume cooperation with it. Iranian IAEA Relations
Iranian relations with IAEA have deteriorated since the United States and Israel attacked Iranian nuclear facilities in June in order to eliminate Iran's nuclear program.
'The continuation of Iran's cooperation with the agency (IAEA) depends on the latter correcting its double standards regarding the nuclear file,' state media quoted Pezeshkian as telling European Council President Antonio Costa by phone.
Pezeshkian also stated that Iran will face any repeated attack with a more decisive and regrettable response.
Moreover, Iran accused the agency of failing to denounce the attacks by the United States and Israel and paving the way for the bombing by issuing a resolution declaring that Iran is breaching its non-proliferation obligations.
'Failure to observe the principle of impartiality in reporting is one of the examples that casts doubt on the status and credibility of the IAEA,' Pezeshkian said. Israel Iran Conflict
On June 13, Israel launched a wave of airstrikes on Iran under the name of Operation Rising Lion. The military campaign targeted Iran's nuclear facilities and killed top military commanders and nuclear scientists.
As a response, Iran launched a retaliatory wave of missiles against Israel and targeted Tel Aviv. Israel also killed several Iranian nuclear scientists in line with its goal to eliminate Iran's nuclear program.

Saudi Arabia Urges Practical Measures against Israel's Impeding of Peace

The Saudi government reiterated on Tuesday the Kingdom's call on the international community to 'swiftly take practical steps to tackle Israeli intransigence, which is deliberately prolonging the crisis in Gaza and undermining regional and international peace efforts.' The cabinet welcomed the statement by international partners calling for an end to the war on the Gaza Strip, the lifting of all restrictions on humanitarian aid, and the safe delivery of that aid to the population. Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud chaired the cabinet session that was held in Jeddah. The cabinet was briefed on a message received by King Salman from King Mswati III of Eswatini, as well as a phone call received by Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, from Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa. Crown Prince Mohammed reiterated the consistent and supportive positions toward Syria and its brotherly people and condemned the blatant Israeli attacks on Syrian territory and interference in its internal affairs. The cabinet emphasized the joint statement issued by the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia and several other countries on developments in Syria and their collective efforts to support the Syrian government in rebuilding the country and ensuring its security, stability, unity, and sovereignty. The cabinet reviewed the Kingdom's ongoing relief and humanitarian efforts for the Syrian people. These efforts, carried out through the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief), reflect Saudi Arabia's continued support for Arab and Islamic nations and its leading global role in assisting those in need and affected populations. The cabinet welcomed the signing of a declaration of principles between the government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the Congo River Alliance, hoping it would serve as a positive step toward improving humanitarian and economic conditions, ultimately contributing to international peace and security. The cabinet also welcomed the signing of agreements and memoranda of understanding aimed at developing an integrated system for exporting renewable energy and green hydrogen from Saudi Arabia to Europe. This initiative reflects the Kingdom's pioneering role in enhancing global logistics connectivity and its leadership in the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor project. The cabinet commended the National Industrial Development and Logistics Program for its strong performance and achievement of multiple objectives. The program has significantly contributed to non-oil GDP, created diverse job opportunities, enabled investments in strategic sectors, and expanded the localization of various industries across the Kingdom. The cabinet commended the Saudi Conjoined Twins Program for its remarkable accomplishments, having provided care for 150 twins from 27 countries and successfully performed 65 separation surgeries. The program embodies Saudi Arabia's humanitarian mission and its standing as a global leader in this specialized medical field. The cabinet viewed Saudi Arabia's election as chair of international associations and committees within the World Intellectual Property Organization as an affirmation of its pioneering position and influential role in multilateral efforts, reflecting the trust and appreciation it enjoys globally. The cabinet expressed Saudi Arabia's aspiration to strengthen international cooperation, keep pace with rapid scientific and technological developments, and achieve progress and prosperity by hosting the eighth edition of the Global Health Exhibition and the Global Symposium for Regulators. The cabinet also noted Saudi Arabia's hosting of the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) International Conference in 2027, which reinforces the Kingdom's position as a global center for governance and oversight, reaffirms its leadership in developing the internal audit profession, and empowers its practices across both the public and private sectors.

Saudi Arabia says it will organize Saudi-Syrian investment forum in Damascus

Saudi Arabia will organize a Saudi-Syrian investment forum in Damascus, aimed at exploring the potential for cooperation and signing deals that should promote sustainable development, the Saudi investment ministry said in a statement on Tuesday. The statement did not set a specific date for the forum. Also on Tuesday, the Saudi embassy in Damascus announced the introduction of special travel permits for businesspeople and investors from both countries, aimed at facilitating mutual visits and exploring investment opportunities. Relations between Riyadh and Damascus have significantly improved since the ouster of former Syrian president Bashar al-Assad in December 2024. Saudi Arabia has since emerged as a key backer of Syria's new leadership. In a major policy shift announced in May during a visit to Riyadh, US President Donald Trump said he would lift all US sanctions on Syria at the request of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman – an important win for Damascus as it works to rebuild after years of conflict.

Saudi Arabia allows special travel permits for business visits to Syria

Saudi Gazette report RIYADH — The Saudi Embassy in Damascus has announced the introduction of special travel permits for businesspeople and investors from both Saudi Arabia and Syria, paving the way for renewed economic engagement and investment exploration between the two countries. The move marks a notable shift in bilateral economic relations, following Saudi Arabia's 2015 decision to ban travel to Syria due to deteriorating security and political conditions at the time. This latest development coincides with the visit of a Saudi business delegation to Syria over the past two days, where they met with Syrian President Ahmad Al-Sharaa and other senior officials. The permits are expected to facilitate broader investment cooperation amid warming diplomatic ties and the ongoing normalization of official relations between Riyadh and Damascus.
