Shubman Gill to lead North Zone in Duleep Trophy; door still open for Asia Cup selection

is set to lead 15-member North Zone team in the Duleep Trophy, but it didn't mean that he can't be part of the Asia Cup.
The Duleep Trophy is scheduled to kick start from August 28 in Bengaluru, while the Asia Cup will be played from September 9 to 28.

The North Zone selectors have made it clear that of Shubman Gill,
Arshdeep Singh
, Harshit Rana or any of them are selected for the Indian team for the Asia Cup, they will be replaced by Subham Rohilla (Services), Gurnoor Brar (Punjab) and Anuj Thakral (Haryana), will replace the trio, respectively.
Apart from the above replacements, the North Zone selectors have also named seven standbys.

This season, the tournament returns to its traditional zonal format, with state selectors from each region picking their respective squads.
South Zone are the reigning champions, having won the title in the 2023–24 edition.

'I saw the opportunity, but in that moment, I felt the position was still worth playing on. I wasn't looking to settle and wanted to take my chances to try and create something. In hindsight, Magnus navigated it better and turned things around, but I think it was the kind of decision you sometimes have to take in a match like this. You fight, and you learn,' said the 21-year-old. At the Esports World Cup, Nihal was representing S8UL as chess made its debut in the event. and the ESports World Cup have signed a three-year partnership until 2027, which will see the sport in the next edition too. 'I've never experienced anything like the Esports World Cup before. It is very different from traditional chess tournaments and has been one of the best experiences of my life.
