‘Just one prompt': Perplexity CEO says his AI browser can replace two key roles every workplace depends on
What are these two roles then? Well, it's the roles the roles that any workplace normally relies on, recruiters and administrative assistants.
In the latest episode of The Verge's 'Decoder' podcast, Srinivas explained how Comet will eventually be able to replace the job of a recruiter after the introduction of a bettter reasoning model like a GPT-5 or Claude 4.5.
'A recruiter's work worth one week is just one prompt: sourcing and reach outs. And then you've got to do state tracking.' Srinivas said on the podcast.
'you want it to keep following up, keep a track of their responses. If some people respond, go and update the Google Sheets, mark the status as responded or in progress and follow up with those candidates, sync with my Google calendar, and then resolve conflicts and schedule a chat, and then push me a brief ahead of the meeting. Some of these things should be proactive. It doesn't even have to be a prompt.' he added
Sinivas also notes that Perplexity has the ambition to make its Comet browser feel more like an operating system which runs processes like these in the background and implements commands based on natural language prompts.
Comet browser is currently only available to Perplexity's paying customers but the company has also opened invites for free users who should get access to the AI powered product in due time. In a Reddit AMA session earlier in the week, Srinivas had confirmed that Comet browser will be available for even free users but some of the AI powered agentic tasks could be under a paywall.
During the latest podcast Srinivas showed optimism in the possibility that users would want to pay for Comet in the long run because of the funtionality it offers.
'And at scale, if it helps you to make a few million bucks, does it not make sense to spend $2,000 for that prompt? It does, right? So I think we're going to be able to monetize in many more interesting ways than chatbots for the browser.' he added.

Google filed a federal lawsuit against 25 Chinese entities operating the BadBox 2.0 botnet , which has infected over 10 million Android devices worldwide through pre-installed malware and fraudulent applications . The tech giant's legal action in New York federal court seeks to dismantle what researchers call "the largest known botnet of internet-connected TVs" ever discovered. The malicious network primarily targets uncertified Android devices including streaming boxes, tablets, digital projectors, and car infotainment systems manufactured in China. "The BADBOX 2.0 botnet compromised over 10 million uncertified devices running Android's open-source software, which lacks Google's security protections," Google stated in its complaint filed July 11. "Cybercriminals infected these devices with pre-installed malware and exploited them to conduct large-scale ad fraud and other digital crimes." Criminal enterprise operates through complex network structure Court documents reveal the BadBox operation functions through four distinct criminal groups: the Infrastructure Group managing command-and-control servers, the Backdoor Malware Group developing pre-installed malware, the Evil Twin Group creating fraudulent app versions, and the Ad Games Group generating fake advertising revenue. The botnet generates profits through multiple fraud schemes, including hidden ad loading, click fraud, and creating fake publisher accounts on Google's Ad Network. Infected devices unknowingly view advertisements, generating revenue for the criminal enterprise while exploiting Google's payment system. "The sole purpose of the Enterprise's apps and websites is to provide ad space for BADBOX 2.0 bots to generate traffic," Google explained in its complaint, detailing how the operation monetizes compromised devices. Court grants preliminary injunction against global operations The federal court has issued a preliminary injunction mandating immediate cessation of botnet operations worldwide. The ruling compels internet service providers and domain registries to actively assist in dismantling the criminal infrastructure by blocking traffic to specified domains. Google has already updated its Play Protect security system to automatically block BadBox-related applications. The FBI issued warnings about the botnet last month, highlighting its spread through supply chain compromises and malicious app downloads. ₹5,000 per box and counting: Himachal's apple season begins with a bang as quality fruit reigns
Apple growers in Himachal Pradesh are upbeat as early varieties of the fruit are commanding impressive prices in wholesale markets. With the apple season kicking off early this year, traders at the Dhalli vegetable market in Shimla say farmers are earning between Rs 2,000 to Rs 5,000 per 20-kg box, depending on quality and ripeness. Roshan Sharma, a local apple grower, said he received Rs 2,000 per box for the early "Spur" variety. Narendra Thakur, a trader operating from Dhalli Mandi at Bhatakufar, highlighted the strong beginning of the season, stating that over 1 lakh boxes have arrived in just 20 days. "This time, early varieties like Tydeman and Spur are coming in good quantity. Growers are getting great prices. Some early foreign varieties fetched up to Rs 5,000 per 20 kg box. Rates are ranging from Rs 2,000 to Rs 5,000. Farmers are advised not to bring under-ripe apples, as the market penalizes poor color and immature fruit. With universal cartons now standard, quality has improved. If the rains continue, the season will likely extend. But unripe produce is affecting market prices negatively," he said. Live Events Ashok Kumar, a buyer who procures apples for markets in Kathmandu (Nepal) and Bihar, echoed the sentiment and praised the quality this year. "The produce is good, and the rates are also satisfying. Farmers who bring properly ripened apples are getting great deals. I have already bought 10,000 to 15,000 boxes, mainly Royal, Red- Gold, and Tydeman varieties. The season has started on time, and I hope both farmers and traders benefit equally. When the fruit is good, everyone wins," Kumar told ANI. According to market estimates, over 10 lakh apple boxes have been sold across Himachal Pradesh's major mandis by July 18. With favorable weather and disciplined harvesting, stakeholders remain optimistic for a strong and extended apple season.
