I tried the beer machine that lets you pull your own pints at home - here's my verdict
With Father's Day around the corner, selecting a present that scores high on thoughtfulness and utility can be quite the conundrum. An ideal choice is the PerfectDraft beer machine – the ultimate treat for ale aficionados who long for a bar-quality brew at home.
Football legend David Beckham, ambassador for PerfectDraft, said of the product: "It is great to be able to pour my own pint of pub quality Stella Artois beer at home with PerfectDraft," Essentially, this device is a domestic beer tap, delivering six-litre kegs of beer freshly chilled to an optimal 3°C, preserving its taste and fizz for as much as 30 days.
I had the pleasure of testing the PerfectDraft Pro model alongside my husband, who enjoys nothing more than a chilled pint whilst watching football.
Upon unboxing, the luxurious design was instantly apparent. The unit arrived complete with a Stella Artois keg and bespoke glasses, though one can choose from an array of over 40 types of kegs featuring top brands such as Peroni, San Miguel, Kopparberg, and Camden Hells.
The setup process was incredibly straightforward, and when it came time to serve, the beer poured flawlessly. According to the Express, the Stella Artois had a delectably creamy head, echoing a top-notch pub draft, reports the Mirror.
Every glass was served ice-cold, refreshingly crisp, and satisfyingly bubbly, with intuitive design features that made the experience all the more enjoyable.
Clear LED indicators on the device provide an accurate update on when your beer is perfectly chilled and when it's time for a refill, making it a breeze to switch out an empty keg. The pro model even includes an app that lets you control the keg's temperature and cooling cycle from 0°C to 12°C without having to leave your cosy spot on the settee.
Moreover, there's a complimentary empty keg return scheme available, offering £5 of credit for each returned keg.
This gadget would be perfect for weekend BBQs, football watch parties or even for staycation holidays, as long as there's ample room in the car.
However, there are a couple of factors to bear in mind. Firstly, its size - it's larger than expected, standing at 37.6cm tall and weighing over 8kg, so careful planning is needed when deciding where to situate it in your home.
Secondly, it takes approximately 12 hours for the keg to reach the ideal drinking temperature, meaning spontaneous pint cravings can't be instantly satisfied.
Despite these minor drawbacks, the PerfectDraft beer machine remains a top-tier Father's Day gift choice. It's practical, stylish, and perfect for anyone who enjoys a quality pint at home.
Just ensure you've measured your available space and planned your pint time!
PerfectDraft machines are currently on sale for Father's Day, starting from £159 (down from £275), with kegs priced between £30 and £42.
The PerfectDraft return keg initiative is raising the stakes, providing a fantastic motivation for beer enthusiasts to go green. By simply returning empty PerfectDraft kegs to designated collection points, either by dropping them off in-store or arranging a home collection, customers are rewarded with £5 in "Beer Tokens", redeemable against their next purchase.
Returns can also be made at Majestic stores. Simply visit any participating Majestic outlet with your 6L Perfect Draft kegs and receive an instant £5 credit towards your next keg.
Please note, however, that this savings benefit is exclusive to one location and cannot be transferred.
